The Knight from the Fairytales-Chapter 2: Help

Chapter 2

Walking along a small forest path,
The little birds guided the kind knight's direction, and sometimes they would also tell Beihai where there were people and animals in need,
"Oh kind knight, ahead there is a well, and inside the well is a frog who seems to be trapped and can't get out."
When the little bird said this, Beihai instantly guessed the story - The Frog Prince, got it, got it.
Just need to have the princess kiss him, wait no... where am I supposed to find a princess in this wilderness? I can't do it myself, a knight kissing a prince? Forget that,
Or should I find a groundhog for a Ten Cold version?
Although The Frog Prince story is short, it's definitely one of the well-known ones, and there's even a movie version,
But the movie version had two frogs - one princess and one prince, both wanting a prince or princess to kiss them to break the curse. When they first met, they disdainfully thought the other was ugly,
But after going through some adventures together, they both let go of their prejudices. This kind of story is a standard love story,
In the original story, a princess's golden ball fell into the well, and since she couldn't retrieve it, she sat by the well crying,
Then the little frog appeared,
The frog told the princess he could retrieve the golden ball, but it would require a price,
The princess really cherished that golden ball, so she promised the frog that if he could retrieve it, she would give him wealth, jewels, or beautiful dresses,
But the frog didn't want these things - he wanted to eat with the princess, freely sleep in her bed, and share the food from her plate and wine from her cup,
The princess agreed to the frog, but in her heart she didn't really mean it, thinking this stupid frog was just talking nonsense and having strange fantasies, that this frog couldn't go anywhere except the well,
So after the golden ball was retrieved, the princess took it and ran off, completely ignoring the frog. First lesson: forgetting one's roots,
Finally the frog had to go to the palace himself to demand what was promised, and the princess's father said that since you promised, you need to keep your word,
The princess was beautiful, with descriptions saying that even the well-traveled sun would be astonished by this girl's beauty when seeing her face,
While the pretty frog was actually ugly - clearly in the description it was actually a toad with bumps on its back, just called a frog to sound nicer,
Looking at it this way, isn't the contrast completely maximized?
Eating from the same bowl and sleeping in the same bed - it's normal for a girl to be unable to stand it,
Eventually when the frog and princess were sleeping in the same bed, the princess couldn't take it anymore and threw the frog against the wall,
Then the frog turned into a prince - how handsome and dashing that prince was,
Making the princess fall in love with the prince at first sight, and they lived happily ever after,
So the question is, how should Beihai practice the knight's spirit?
If there were two frogs, that would be too good and convenient, but if it's the original story type, Beihai would have some difficulty operating,
Because according to that story level, not helping would be the best help, but if Beihai doesn't help he can't gain power, so no matter what he has to get involved,
But regardless, Beihai could only follow the bird's guidance to the well first and see which type of story it actually was,
After continuing forward along the forest path, they were still in a dense forest,
But not far away they could see a castle. Beihai wasn't surprised by this - there were always many castles in this world, and one shouldn't underestimate these castles either, as any castle might house a king and princess,
But when he saw the well under the linden tree and the castle beside it, Beihai's anxious heart finally gave up hope,
According to the story, the princess would come to the linden tree by the well to enjoy the shade, playing with her golden ball by tossing it high and catching it until it fell into the well, when the story would officially begin,
This made Beihai very uncomfortable. To be honest, Beihai felt both of these characters were problematic,
Whether it was the frog's demands, or the princess who made promises, and then ending with a happy life,
Maybe it leaned toward love at first sight, and a more common post-marriage cultivation of feelings. Finally Beihai could only manage to say: "Maybe this is just what love is - I don't understand it."
And just at that moment, there was a gurgling sound from the well, and then a frog surfaced,
It was a big, round, ugly head. Since Beihai was already observing, he naturally saw it clearly when it appeared,
At times like this you have to take action, otherwise according to story rules, if the frog isn't willing, no amount of calling will help - you can only take the initiative,
Although Beihai's knight identity was inherently meant to help various princes and princesses in stories, better safe than sorry - taking initiative is always good,
"Oh, cursed prince, I have come to your side following fate's guidance. May this humble knight ask what assistance he might offer you?"
When opening your mouth, you have to be precise. Compared to other approaches that might raise suspicion, it's better to just go all out with the fate talk. After all, this world has magic and some inexplicable blessings and curses,
So don't question how I know or how I came - any doubts you have, I can answer: this is fate's arrangement, because fate arranged it this way,
"Noble and kind knight, you are not humble. Right now I am just an ugly frog - someone like me cannot possibly make requests of a noble knight,
I have no splendid clothes, no wealth, no status - I have nothing to offer you."
"Hahaha, cursed prince, you misunderstand,
I need no wealth, no status, no splendid clothes - I simply wish to help you from the bottom of my heart."
The frog paused, seeming not to have expected the knight before him to be so kind, even asking for nothing in return,
In this world, although it was a fairy tale, most interactions followed the principle of mutual exchange, and sometimes fairy tales needed some villainous characters,
Those characters weren't so kind-hearted, being full of deception and selfishness - like wicked witches where tricking people into being eaten or having their heads chopped off was commonplace. Those who acted purely out of kindness without seeking reward were truly rare.
Even some protagonists in fairy tales, when you really look at them, you'll find some are quite outrageous too,
And others like The Little Match Girl - if people were really that kind,
how could The Little Match Girl not even have a pair of shoes, huddled in the snow?
And Cinderella, Snow White's stepmother, etc.
Beihai reached out his hand to let the frog jump up. In that moment, to the frog, this knight's radiance was so brilliant!
