The Knight from the Fairytales-Chapter 43: I Learned Swordsmanship!

Chapter 43

Once again, they were traveling without a destination.
If someone were to ask how large this continent truly was? Some would say that nothing in this world could measure the entire world.
But there were also those who claimed that a fortunate few had encountered a massive snake head, which clearly knew just how magnificent the entire world was.
It said its body encircled the entire world, coiling around it for a full circle.
However, such news was just baseless rumors. Even when occasionally spread by a few people, it was only treated as a joke.
How could there be such a large snake in this world? If it moved, wouldn't it turn the world upside down?
Such a colossal body would be impossible to hide, so how could only one or two people have seen it?
Nevertheless, it made for an interesting legend. It was quickly compiled into stories and spread throughout the world.
"Legends like this... perhaps this world's history is fake, but legends can't possibly be false." Beihai was quite certain of this.
This time, after urging their horses onward, they arrived at a vast kingdom.
Within this kingdom, many people were filled with fear and anxiety.
Upon inquiry, they discovered this kingdom was shrouded in the shadow of war. Two nations had gone to war, leaving the people of this kingdom with nowhere to flee.
At the same time, they couldn't become soldiers to resist the enemy, because once they joined the ranks of the soldiers, a curse would follow. That soldier would then be plunged into agony akin to childbirth.
The entire kingdom, from top to bottom, had fallen victim to this trick. Even the King was not spared.
After learning this news, Beihai entrusted Elsa to the care of a young girl. He himself mounted his horse, preparing to stop the conflict between the two nations.
To be honest, stopping a war was something Beihai was doing for the first time. Who told him to like meddling in other people's business?
There was a good chance the rewards from this could be great. Besides, he wanted to show off his skills.
War wasn't actually uncommon in this world, even though material wealth was abundant.
But often, the reasons of monarchs were utterly baffling. People didn't go to war for material resources or benefits.
The cause of the matter was that Queen Medb heard her husband had obtained a majestic white bull. She became psychologically unbalanced and decided to seize the legendary brown bull at all costs.
And the brown bull was in this very kingdom, in the hands of the King.
Unfortunately, at this very time, King Conchobar of Ulster had done something foolish. He seemed to have offended some beings who could use witchcraft.
In their rage, they cursed the King and his entire army, plunging them all into childbirth-like agony. Only Cú Chulainn escaped unscathed.
And this legendary warrior was now stationed alone at the ford, determined to face the army of Queen Medb of Connacht single-handedly.
Although Cú Chulainn was the strongest warrior of Ulster, he also knew he was outnumbered. So, following tradition, he issued challenges for single combat to the enemy army, planning to break them down gradually.
However, for Cú Chulainn, there was something more troubling than the battle before him.
Years ago, he had followed the revelation of fate to become a disciple of Scáthach. There, he met a young warrior from Connacht named Ferdiad.
The two lived together day and night, trained together, and eventually became sworn brothers who would die for each other.
And now, this Connacht was the enemy he was fighting.
Cú Chulainn knew no one in the enemy ranks could defeat him, no one could best him. But fighting like this, he would eventually have to face his former bosom friend in a life-or-death duel.
Day after day, Cú Chulainn defended the ford alone. He sent the heads of the challengers to Medb's doorstep. Sometimes, in the heat of battle, he could even slay hundreds of soldiers by himself.
And Ferdiad kept delaying. He truly did not wish to duel his former sworn brother.
Queen Medb, however, desperately wanted to seize the brown bull directly. She simply couldn't wait any longer.
But she also knew that only Ferdiad could stand against Cú Chulainn. So she constantly used provocation, taunting him with words of cowardice, forcing him to take the field.
The end of the story was tragic. When the two sworn brothers finally dueled, Cú Chulainn was slowly reaching his limit, even becoming somewhat exhausted.
But Scáthach, that old purple hag, still favored Cú Chulainn. She had taught him alone a secret technique: to summon the magic spear Gáe Bulg, forged from the bones of a sea monster from the deep.
In the end, relying on this, he turned defeat into victory, thrusting the spear into Ferdiad's chest.
Finally, the warriors of the kingdom recovered from that curse. But it was all too late. Queen Medb had already seized that bull and returned safely to Connacht.
As soon as she returned to the palace, Medb eagerly arranged a bull fight, insisting on having the seized brown bull and her husband's white bull fight to the death.
The two divine bulls fought from morning till night, from the grasslands to the valleys, turning the entire country upside down.
In the end, although the brown bull killed the white bull, it was also covered in wounds. Not long after, it died of depression.
Queen Medb won this war.
But what was lost included the lives of warriors, the peace of the land, and even the two divine bulls.
This was purely a matter of the monarch's personal will. It was utterly senseless. They didn't even attempt the most basic diplomacy, just sent troops to seize it directly.
In the midst of the battle between Cú Chulainn and Ferdiad, Beihai arrived from afar and directly intervened, his eyes filled with confidence.
The sword at his waist was already drawn, ready to show off his skills before these two warriors. If nothing else, he had, after all, studied under a master swordsman for a long time.
Then two long spears stabbed into his sides. Although the two spears pierced him, they didn't fully penetrate.
His armor broke like a block of tofu, but when they struck his flesh, they didn't even break the skin.
Beihai didn't even react.
In fact, if these two spears could have pierced his skin, Beihai's body would have automatically issued a warning, and then, uncontrollably, he would have grabbed the two spear shafts.
But the problem was there was no such danger. Being hit didn't hurt at all, didn't even itch.
Cú Chulainn and Ferdiad were somewhat on high alert. Clearly, this man before them was full of openings.
Finally, Cú Chulainn took another look. He wasn't mistaken. The man was indeed full of openings from head to toe. In six seconds, I could kill this guy seven times over!
Or perhaps this guy simply doesn't take me seriously! That makes sense too. My weapons can't even pierce him, can't leave a mark on his body, so why should I care about his attacks!
The pressure instantly multiplied. Could this be someone sent by the enemy?
Ferdiad had the same thought as Cú Chulainn.
Beihai, however, felt somewhat awkward. Actually, he really wanted to show off, to block these attacks with his long sword, but it seemed he had miscalculated a bit.
Nevertheless, Beihai quickly moved into action. It's fine, he just hadn't gotten into the flow earlier.
As soon as his whole body moved, the pressure on Cú Chulainn and Ferdiad instantly exploded. They joined forces against the enemy, each strike delivered with full power.
They immediately stabbed Beihai over a dozen times with their spears. Beihai felt pretty good about himself, feeling like he could parry each spear strike.
His sword techniques were executed with fierce power and speed. In the end, Cú Chulainn and Ferdiad were completely unharmed.
Beihai's armor and clothes were all torn. The two spear shafts pressed against his neck were even bent, yet they still hadn't pierced through.
"From whom have you two learned? To possess such superb martial arts, I am in awe."
"You are not bad either, sir. This body of yours, trained to such an impervious level, is truly peerless in the world."
Beihai's face immediately darkened. Are these two misunderstanding something? I learned swordsmanship! From the best court swordsman in the kingdom.
We've been clashing for so long, can't you tell?
