The Knight from the Fairytales-Chapter 46: Because of a trivial matter

Chapter 46

Things turned out to be much easier than imagined. The King promised that if Beihai could truly end this war and preserve the kingdom, not to mention the bull, that would be a given. He would grant Beihai wealth, status, and the lovely princess.
To be honest, Beihai felt not the slightest bit of surprise or being overwhelmed by such favor. It always felt like these were standard offerings.
The Wizard watched Beihai leave but had doubts in his heart. "Your Majesty, if he wants a bull, then anyone would choose that Divine Bull!"
The King curled up in his chair, his teeth clenched. The constant pain had almost made him numb. What kind of time was this? What Divine Bull? Isn't that bull just a bit more handsome? What's so special about it? If he wants it, just give it to him.
Fortunately, the King did not know that this bull was the very reason they had launched the war. If the King had known, he would have truly cursed up a storm.
After all, in the story, having endured a painful war, the King believed he had driven off invaders, completely unaware of what they were actually after.
With the King's promise, Beihai didn't spend much time finding that Divine Bull. Mainly because this bull was different from ordinary cattle. Many people were talking about it. You just needed to ask and listen, and it was easy to find.
Its brown fur was short and sleek, the coat even seemed to glow. Its body was extremely robust, clearly a fine stud bull at first glance.
"This bull is no ordinary beast. If handled well, next year we might have several beautiful calves."
Watching Beihai reach out and stroke the smooth brown bull, the servant feeding the Divine Bull nearby also looked on with great curiosity.
"Sir, can this bull even create clones?"
"No, but the bull's genes are excellent. If it sires offspring..."
"Oh, that. I'm afraid you'll be disappointed, sir. This is a Divine Bull, how could it be with a mundane cow? Not to mention successful breeding, any offspring would probably be sickly and weak from childhood."
Beihai laughed, seeming to agree with his words. The truth was, Beihai couldn't hold back. If you compared this bull to a person, those demigods had overthrown plenty of chief deities. Moreover, if you really wanted to make a comparison, you'd have to mention the Trickster God Loki. The children he had with a horse were ridiculously powerful.
"I'll be taking this bull now. This is His Majesty the King's promise."
"Understood, sir. Take care. And you, sir, are truly a good man!"
The servant was genuinely grateful. After all, the country was in peril, and one man stepped forward, asking only for a bull, not for wealth or status, not even to marry the princess. What noble character!
If the servant himself had a solution, needless to say, he would definitely ask the King for the princess's hand.
Here, marrying a princess held significant meaning, nothing like Beihai's previous world where marrying a princess meant cutting off one's official career path. But here, if you married a princess, the King would truly give you the kingdom.
By the time Beihai led the Divine Bull to the battlefield, Cú Chulainn was still guarding the ford. The opposing side still had the place tightly surrounded but hadn't made any further advances.
Perhaps because of Beihai's sudden emergence, Ferdiad had gone to seek instructions from Queen Medb, so there were no soldiers lining up to come before Cú Chulainn and meet their deaths.
"Cú Chulainn, step aside, don't block the way."
Hearing the voice from behind, Cú Chulainn, holding his shield and his magic spear, moved to the side. Seeing Beihai leading an extraordinarily magnificent bull, he was somewhat astonished.
"You led a bull here, planning to go see Queen Medb?"
Cú Chulainn was a bit unsure. Was this some kind of joke?
"Don't talk nonsense. This is a Divine Bull."
"I know, Brother Beihai. But this thing is just a bit better-looking, a bit stronger, nothing special."
Cú Chulainn's first thought was that Beihai intended to use the bull to trade with the other side. That was the only explanation.
As for using the bull to gore Queen Medb to death during an audience... how to put it? He hadn't considered that at all. After all, Cú Chulainn himself had once thrown an enemy's head before Queen Medb, and not just once. When enraged, he could slay hundreds of soldiers, which also meant the guards around Queen Medb couldn't stop him.
So if he really wanted to pull off an ambush or something, Cú Chulainn alone, spear in hand, could charge and take out Queen Medb. If he wanted to be sneaky, he could pretend to submit and then charge her.
But Cú Chulainn never did, never even thought of it. Cú Chulainn could be said to reflect most people here.
"Don't worry about it. Wait for good news. Perhaps they'll withdraw their troops today. But to be honest, I didn't expect things to go so smoothly. I thought your King would cherish this Divine Bull dearly."
After saying something Cú Chulainn didn't understand, Beihai drove the Divine Bull toward the enemy camp.
Watching Beihai's confident back, Cú Chulainn could only scratch his head and start thinking.
"Weird. What can a bull do? Stop a war? Should I raise a few more bulls in the future? If war breaks out again, I'll send a few bulls over too."
And so, Beihai led the brown bull unimpeded all the way, without even anyone stopping him, straight to the front of Queen Medb's tent.
Medb lay on a chair, holding a bottle of holy water. She thought the commotion outside would be that enemy Cú Chulainn coming to flaunt some more heads, showing off his might.
But she never, ever expected it to be the Divine Bull she had been longing for. She had come for this bull, was willing to compete with her husband for it, even launch a war. Naturally, she could also stand before Beihai and inquire about his desires.
"You have brought me what I wanted. Speak, what do you desire? Wealth? Status? I've heard of your deeds. You are a mighty warrior. You brought me the Divine Bull. I can give you the princess in marriage."
"Queen, I do not need these things. Let's make a deal. I can give you the bull, but you must withdraw your troops immediately and not encroach upon a single inch of land."
Queen Medb, upon hearing the request, did not hesitate in the slightest.
"Agreed."
After all, her goal had been achieved. She launched this war not for land, not for wealth, but for this bull alone. For it, she could start a war, and naturally, she could end this war.
This transaction faced no difficulties and was settled just like that. The great army began to withdraw.
Cú Chulainn's side believed they had defended their country and territory, that they had driven off the invaders.
And Queen Medb had won overwhelmingly. Now she needed to hurry back and see whether her husband's bull was more impressive, or this brown one.
Ferdiad, however, felt deep helplessness. This war had actually started over something like this, and it had nearly led to a life-and-death duel between him and his sworn brother. The reason was merely this.
"Brother Beihai, before you leave, I must properly thank you. In the future, if there is anywhere you need me, no matter where you are, I will rush to your aid."
"In exchange, tell me your master's address. As for help... sigh, I actually have a matter right now. There's an old witch. Help me look for her. Let me tell you, it's because of her that I came out. She is simply too powerful and evil."
