The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1143.1

Chapter 1143.1
The frozen stream had come back online, accompanied by a brief announcement from the platform administrator. Despite the increased viewer count, however, the situation was anything but encouraging. While the server hiccup hadn't lasted long, even a brief disruption could prove disastrous in a fight where every second counted.
Evangeline’s fighting state, boosted by the absorption of emotional energy, was still unstable. She needed to cross a critical threshold where she could fully control her power, which she hadn’t reached yet. Unfortunately, that one step preventing her advancement may as well have been a chasm, plunging her into the depths of despair in the fight.
[What the hell.]
[Wait, is this...]
[No fucking way. Did the server lag just drain her boost?]
[What are those other two fighters even doing?!]
[Are you freakin blind? They’re literally down there on the ground fighting mobs.]
[This is the first time I’ve seen America’s number one hero get smacked around like this.]
The chat exploded with panic and disbelief.
Coughing up blood, Evangeline grit her teeth as the dark priest held her with its massive hand. Nearby, Kouna and Chris Marten lay collapsed, soaked in blood. Painfully clutching their wounds, they couldn’t even get themselves to stand.
In just that split second gap of stream connection, all three had taken severe blows.
The dark priest opened its enormous mouth wide, ready to devour Evangeline whole. Using the boost from the renewed viewers, she fortunately managed to escape in time.

Boom!!
Evangeline shattered its hand with her one free arm, breathing heavily as she landed back on the ground. She immediately rolled over and grabbed the other two, pulling them away to open up some distance.

Gah!!

However, the damage was already done—her injuries were too severe, and she collapsed to her knees once again, obviously at her limit.
Some viewers were left speechless at her condition, while others were in utter awe of the monstrous dark priest’s overwhelming power.
Its arms looked deceptively thin and light, with every small swing reshaping the terrain with devastating force. They wondered if they had ever seen a monster so powerful before.
Of course, they unfortunately had. It was about a decade before that a dozen creatures of similar strength had appeared on Earth and nearly destroyed humanity.
Evangeline was rapidly growing stronger from the energy she absorbed, but the creature’s power was increasing even faster, as if some restraint on it had been gradually lifted.
“Damn it! I’ll buy us some time to—
ugh?!
” Chris Marten said, finally on his feet as he tried to lift the fallen divine dragon sword, Twilight. “Why the hell is this thing so heavy?!”
The sword, sensing it wasn’t grasped in its master’s hands, resisted with crushing weight. Even Chris, who possessed enough raw strength to break buildings barehanded or tackle a passenger plane head-on, couldn’t lift it properly.
“Chris!!” Kouna cried out, wiping the blood from her eyes. She let out a burst of radiant energy from her hand, directing it into his body. Soon enough, Twilight became lighter in his hands.
“I’m not sure what just happened, but a sword this heavy has got to hit like a truck, right?!” he said jokingly while gritting his teeth. His bulging muscles swelled, veins pulsing beneath his skin as he summoned every last ounce of strength.

Gaaah!!
” With a primal scream, Chris swung the massive blade.
Crack!!
He didn’t have any accomplishments in swordsmanship, but the sheer weight of the divine dragon blade nonetheless turned his strike into a devastating heavy blow.

Graaahhh!!
” The dark priest staggered back, shrieking in pain. Until then, nothing Chris had done was able to so much as make a dent. Yet, the monster suddenly found itself wounded
.
Staring at the sword in awe, Chris saw a faint current of energy lingering over it.
“Princess’s power... It’s still here.” Grinning, he dropped the sword and collapsed. “But hell... that thing’s still alive even after that?”
He couldn’t move anymore, and neither could Kouna. Evangeline, still silent, also hadn’t gotten back up.

Guooo!!
” Enraged, the dark priest roared and unleashed a colossal wave of dark energy. The wave surged forward, engulfing the three in an instant.
The viewers were certain they’d just witnessed three gruesome deaths as the screen turned black.
Crackle!!
A faint spark, then a tiny snap of static echoed out.
[This is the admin speaking. We’re deploying additional servers and activating overseas server hosting for emergency relay.]
The moment global distribution was made available, the screen lit up as messages began flooding in from every corner of the world. The viewer count surged at an utterly incomprehensible speed compared to before.
Ding!
The stream had reached 78,512 concurrent viewers.
Ding!
Then 112,557.
Ding!
254,572.
Ding!
587,542.
Ding!
2,805,584.
Ding!
It reached a staggering 31,124,721.
In mere seconds, the numbers had reached levels that bordered on absurdity.
Such exposure wasn’t the result of the platform admins’ efforts alone. Several top streamers from major countries, all watching the situation unfold in real time, had ended their own streams to begin hosting her stream instead, thereby directing their viewers to her stream.
Her stream wasn’t simply something interesting to watch, but also an easily-accessible conduit to deliver power to her. A new, overwhelming torrent of energy began flooding in.
[What’s going on? Is this some kind of bug?]
[I get that they forcefully linked overseas servers... but still, this number is insane.]
[Damn. When did a million viewers start looking so humble?]
Sure, views on uploaded and prerecorded videos could reach hundreds of millions. However, live viewers were a different beast. The number of views Evangeline’s stream was able to bring in was staggering.
Crackle!!
Suddenly, pure white sparks danced inside the dark wave. In what felt like an instant, the deadly wave was shredded into pieces.

Phew.
” Evangeline stood, not even bothering to sweep away her blood-drenched and tangled hair. Eyes slowly opening, her violet irises gleamed coldly.
Slash!! Boom!!
A blade flew to her from the sky. She snatched the blue-and-red glinting blade with her free hand then slashed downward in a smooth arcing motion.
Soon after, a thunderous shockwave tore through the air as the ground was split for tens of meters along the blade’s path. It was a devastating spectacle, on a level only expected with the Saint of Tionis. Yet the viewers watched his daughter display a similar degree of force.
The force of the strike shattered the barrier shielding the smartphone filming the stream, sending it tumbling across the ground. Chris, freed from the dark wave, dragged himself forward and repositioned the camera back to Evangeline and the dark priest.

Phew!
That could’ve been bad.”
Kouna stumbled forward, clutching her arm, and began reinforcing the smartphone with a fresh barrier using her Celestial Maiden power. “I can only block one more hit. If there’s another shockwave, it’s toast.”
“That’s fine. Viewers, I want you to rest assured with the knowledge that I’m close to pissing myself from fear.” His tone was playful, but the fact that he had felt the need to say such a joke was indicative just how overwhelmed he was.
“Thank you so much, ladies and gentlemen,” he said while grinning into the camera.
A blend of crimson-blue and blood-red aura began swirling around Evangeline, merging like sentient energy. Twin pairs of black wings then formed behind her.
They were smaller than before, yet unlike before, there were two full pairs. They looked like the wings of a fallen angel, one forsaken by God.
She held Twilight in one hand, while in the other, she held the crimson-blue demonic sword Super Ribbon.
She wasn’t sure where Super Ribbon had suddenly shown up from, but she had no time to wonder and no room for doubt. All she could think about was using the two swords in her hands, the ones she trusted the most.
Sensing that something was beginning to go horribly wrong, the dark priest lunged toward her. Alas, it didn’t get far. Before it could even close the distance, it had already collapsed under the pressure erupting from her. It tried to rise, but continued to struggle as if it was fighting against a gravitational spell. The pressure she unleashed wasn't something one could resist so easily.
Her power, previously straddling the edge of overwhelming, had finally crossed the final threshold and settled under complete control, its advancement triggered by the enormous influx of energy.
She was the child of Eclipse, a Princess of the Abyss and a royal ancient dragon. In fact, Eclipse had been the strongest ancient dragon to ever live. Evangeline also bore the lineage of Hercules, the man who once stood at the pinnacle of the Hall of Heroes through brute strength alone.
Having inherited the characteristics of both, Evangeline was beyond extraordinary.
She calmly slid one foot forward, approaching the destructive onslaught she couldn’t even withstand before. She then opened her mouth to speak, “Thank you.”
As her words traveled beyond dimensions, amplified by the miracle of languages, it resonated with every viewer in their own language.
[Longsword]
[Masterpiece]
Masterpiece was an ultimate sword technique when it came to longswords. The blade move No-Named King that had once defeated Perserque had been the only other.
It was impossible for Evangeline to have mastered such a technique, yet while she couldn’t truly replicate it, she could still create an imitation of it.
[Skyfall]
She had never been able to successfully complete even its opening move, but there was a chance of success with her body having been stabilized by overwhelming energy, giving full control of her own power.
When compounded with the fact that the swords she held were none other than Super Ribbon and the divine dragon sword Twilight, her chance of success with the technique was pushed to the extreme.
At last, the longsword technique she unleashed tore through the fractured sky itself. With a blinding explosion of light, both the heavens and earth were split in a dazzling, apocalyptic spectacle.
The stream turned pure white. Then came the deafening sound of the shockwave. For a while, nothing more happened. Then, slowly, the light faded and the scenery returned.
Someone began to walk forward from the apparent void. Their body was soaked in blood, and their face carried deep exhaustion. Even in such a state, the moment they appeared, no one watching the stream couldn’t have possibly mistaken who it was.
Evangeline was smiling brightly toward the camera.

Hehe...
thank you. I wo—” She collapsed even before she could finish her sentence.
Kouna rushed forward in an instant, ignoring her own wounds, and caught Evangeline before she hit the ground.
Unlike her father, Evangeline was foolishly, almost painfully kind. Her exhausted, weary smile was beautiful in its purity. It was a celebration that she had survived and taken out the threat.
It was moments later that the stream finally cut out. It was already too late for her to ever fade into obscurity, every community forum going crazy about her.
* * *
Evangeline had lost consciousness after finally controlling the full force of her power, and unleashing it in its entirety for the first time. The dark priest, unable to withstand her final blow, was completely obliterated by her strike.
Chris and Kouna, both badly wounded, wasted no time in their retreat. They took her and quickly made their way out of the rift, leaving behind a scarred land marked with massive traces of battle.
Silence settled over the battlefield, yet it wasn’t long before a lone set of footsteps echoed across the desolate ground. The figure stopped at the spot where the monster's shattered remains lay.
Surprisingly enough, the creature wasn’t completely dead. It was regenerating itself.
Evangeline hadn’t been able to finish it off completely.
Once its form had reconstituted enough to regain some shape, its pitch-black eyes locked onto the figure standing before it. It instantly flinched, recoiling in palpable terror.
“You had your fun, didn’t you?” the man said coldly. “It’s good that Evangeline learned to control her power, but... damn, holding back from intervening wasn’t easy.”

Guuu!!

Like an animal sensing a far greater predator, the creature writhed in desperation, trying to accelerate its regeneration. The figure just extended his hand, calm and casual.
“You should’ve known when to stop.”
Crack!!
All he did was clench his fist, but that was all it took.
The force within it twisted everything—the monster and its partially revived body, the core of the Silence Gate itself, and the very flow of the world system that had supported it.
The dark priest, a psychic-type living being, was disintegrated. Its core ultimately vanished as though it had never existed.
Without the world even noticing, the vast, hidden system that had maintained the balance of existence was wiped out in an instant.
“Neltarid, I went ahead and erased every Silence Gate. You clean up the rest,” Davey said toward the empty air in a chilling yet calm voice. “Count yourself lucky, asshole.”
A feminine voice spoke up, “That was close! If anyone had dared cross the line with Eva during all this...”
“That’s why we put the warning up.”
Perserque quietly looked to the sky. She couldn’t feel anything odd from inside the rift, but being familiar with Davey, she believed he had likely been ready to rain down meteors at a moment’s notice. “Still, you know...”
Davey cut her off before she could finish. “People sure are funny and cunning. While they may be selfish, when given a noble cause or a nice ‘virtue’ to rally behind, they’ll flip like a switch.”
He then snapped his fingers. The faint traces of mana that had been spread across the area vanished, like marionettes with their strings suddenly cut.
“We really lucked out.”
