The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1143.2
Chapter 1143.2
Evangeline, deep in slumber to the point she hadn’t even noticed when someone carried her away, had her eyes suddenly snap open at the soft sensation of something licking her cheek.
What she saw in her line of sight were two things—the quiet room she was in along with Davey dozing off with his arms crossed in the chair right next to her bed, and the mischievous face of the angel cat Bluefin, who had just woken her with its tongue.
The little creature stared down at her with a tilted head, then gave another lazy lick across her cheek.
“
Aeowww.
” Its low purr tickled her ears. The sound made her put on a faint smile.
“
Ah...
” As she gently scratched Bluefin under the chin, she suddenly reached out for the top of her head as if she had remembered something.
The horns were still there, yet unlike before, the powers that once refused to obey her were instead flowing in perfect harmony within her control.
“What changed?” she murmured quietly.
To be frank, she knew very little about the nature of her ancient dragon heritage. What mattered more to her were the ones by her side.
For example, she knew for a fact that Bluefin was supposed to be in Tionis.
“Bluefin.”
“
Aeowww.
”
“Why are you here?”

The angel cat blinked up at her, round-eyed, then crawled right onto her legs. It kneaded her stomach gently with its tiny paws, stretched its wings once, then flopped onto its back, belly-up.
‘Right. What did I expect from a cat?’
Evangeline glanced around, still out of sorts. Not sure whether or not it brought her relief, she could tell she wasn't in Tionis. It took her one more glance around before finally recognizing that she was in Hyun-Ah’s house.
“
Ahhh.
”
Sitting in a daze, the memories of what happened before she passed out slowly returned.
She slowly opened her palm. The once-consuming force that had threatened to devour her from the inside was wrapped around her like a protective veil, fully fused with her.
The power radiating from within her was incomparable to what it had ever been.
Staring blankly at her own hand, she had a bittersweet smile. She hadn’t checked the chat during the battle, unaware of where the sentiments lie. Regardless of what the viewers thought of her, considering the power she received in that moment, it certainly couldn’t have come from just one or two people.
She was sure many had watched, including those who never cared about her, or even the trolls who used to drop by just to stir trouble.
She knew that she had gone way beyond what was allowed on the platform, and the thought that she could no longer stream stung her. She began to think that it was finally time to stop being stubborn and just go back to Tionis with her dad.
Just as she was about to fall deeper down the rabbit hole, something caught her eye—a box.
“
Huh?
It says it’s for me.”
It was beautifully packaged, yet there was no indication of where it had come from or who had sent it.
She assumed it had come from overseas, based on the packaging. Curious, she picked it up, noticing that it was heavier than expected.
Of course, Evangeline wasn’t the type to leave mysteries alone and unsolved.
“
Aeowww.
”
After Bluefin meowed, she patted its head and then opened the box, flipping it over and dumping it out to see what was inside.
Bluefin, of course, dove into the emptied box and curled up like it was the most natural thing to do.
Normally, Evangeline would’ve smiled and patted Bluefin some more. Instead, her gaze stayed fixed on the things inside the box.
“
Huh?
This is...”
Inside were two more boxes, with a smartphone and a webcam inside. The webcam didn’t seem like the latest tech, but it was extremely sleek—gorgeous, even.
Her eyes sparkled with curiosity as she studied the webcam.
“Looks like you like it.”
Startled by the calm voice, Evangeline flinched and hurled the phone straight at the speaker.
Thunk!
“
Gah!
”
The phone smacked Davey square in the face.
“D-Dad?!” Her eyes widened as she scrambled toward him, arms extended in panic. Davey, still wincing, grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug.
“
Huh?
”
“Thank goodness... you did great.” His quiet voice stopped her from pulling away. “You have no idea how scared I was when I heard what happened.”
Hearing the guilt in his voice, tears welled up in her eyes. “
H-Hic...
Dad...”
That was the last straw, and she finally broke. She buried her face in his chest and sobbed, clinging tightly around him.
Davey gently patted her back. “It’s okay. You’re okay. I’m here.”
She cried her heart out, overwhelmed with sorrow, and Davey calmly comforted her.
The things she had gone through and the decisions she made throughout had been tormenting her.
She had thought that it’d be alright to go live on her stream with her face showing, given that there were those who already knew who she was. Yet when in that moment of truth, she felt a little scared, unsure if it’d truly be okay.
She had also gone beyond what the streaming platform’s terms of service allowed, which made her think that she couldn’t stream anymore—or so she believed. Of course, nothing could bring her more relief than seeing her dad. It was the same dad she used to call annoying over and over, standing right in front of her.
Davey gently patted her back as she let out more short sobs, her body trembling now and then.
He smiled and comforted her, “I’m proud of you, kiddo.”
“Dad...” As she sniffled and tears streamed down her face, she said, “You smell like alcohol.”
Not knowing what to say, Davey awkwardly cleared his throat and pulled back from the embrace.
Evangeline pouted and looked up at him. “How long was I out?”
“Two days.”
“Why are you here, Dad?”
“You think I’d just sit and watch when my daughter’s hurt?”
His reply left Evangeline practically speechless. It took her a moment to formulate a response. “Did you come to take me back?”
Davey let out a soft chuckle.“No, I didn't. I built a temporary portal connecting this place with Heins Territory.”
Her eyes widened in surprise.
“If there’s something you want to do, then do it. I’ll help you however I can, even if it’s streaming.”
She flinched.
Streaming had become a sore spot for her after the ordeal.
“How did you know?”
“You think I wouldn’t notice a bunch of constellations dropping all those nasty donation messages?”
“That’s—!”
“It’s fine, I’m not here to scold you. Actually, what you did... It moved me a little.” He reached out and ruffled her hair with a gentle smile.
Ever since her second growth, she’d always protested when he ruffled her hair like a child. Yet strangely enough, she felt like she was her younger self again for a moment.
“
Ah.
” Then she noticed Davey making a playful grin. She pouted, puffed up her cheeks, and stuck out her lips like a sulking child. “Fine, Dad, you win. I’ll go back now. My account’s probably suspended, anyways.”
She picked up her phone from beside the bed and logged into her streaming account.
- This streamer has been restricted for intentional violation of content standards. Suspension in effect until: December 30th, 2999.
It was a practically permanent ban. That was what she had expected to happen, but it still hit hard when she finally got confirmation.
“
Haah.
” She put on a sad, broken smile and lowered her head, trembling.
It had been fun. So much fun, and yet it was suddenly all gone.
She couldn’t stop crying. “
Snf... Wahh...
”
Davey said nothing. He just sat beside her, staying with her in silence.
Just like that, less than two weeks after it began, Eva’s Drawing Session that tens of thousands people watched was done and over with.
“Oh, right... Did you get the letter?”
“Letter...?” She sniffled, lifting her head.
“Yeah, in came from the streaming company’s headquarters.
Ah,
here you go.”
He handed her the letter that had been resting on the floor.
“What... is this?”
Davey just tilted his chin toward it. Evangeline slowly unfolded the paper and began reading. It didn’t take long for her eyes to shoot wide open.
She bolted upright.
“
Aeowww!!
”
Startled, Bluefin yowled and scrambled to hide in a corner. Evangeline didn’t even register it—she let go of the letter, spun around, and booted up the computer.
She accessed the platform and clapped her hands over her mouth.
[Oh? Boss is back.]
[Hieve]
[Hieve]
The moment she went live, thousands, no, over thirteen thousand viewers flooded in. Numb to the increasing number of viewers, one thing echoed loud and clear.
The sound of her sobbing.
[??? Why are you crying, Boss?]
[She’s definitely crying, right? Who made her cry? Where is UncleSupportSquad? Get in here!]
[I’ll come after you. Who, who made her cry? Where are you?]
As the chat scrolled faster than she could read, Evangeline bowed her head and began to cry openly.
The letter she had dropped read:
[... in recognition of your courageous actions, we would like to thank you on behalf of the company. We are issuing you a Special Partner ID. All your previous followers have been migrated, and we will now support simultaneous international broadcasting to subscribers and viewers worldwide upon request.]
“And this one’s from me.” Davey slipped something over her head. It was a special headset, custom-made with cat ears to avoid catching on her horns. “Now. With all that... don’t you think you owe me a little something?”
[Wow, it’s the Saint of Tionis. Heard he was a doting father, but damn.]
[Look at him acting all nice and now showing his true nature.]
[He’s real sly LOL]
[Hey, Boss... It’s kinda dark in here... turn the cam on, maybe...?]
“Shut it, all of you. You’re ruining a heartfelt family moment.”
[Wow, so this is what he had been planning all along? I'm unsubscribing.]
[Unsubscribe]
[Unsubscribe]
[Damn.]
[Damn it is.]
[I agree.]
Davey gave his chest a playful pat and looked at Evangeline. She lifted her face before lunging into his arms.
“See that, everyone? Told you she’d hug me. Jealous much?”
His teasing tone made not only the Korean chat explode, with foreign languages filling up the chat as well.
“I knew you’d say something like that.”
Thwack!
“
Ow!
Hey!”
“I hate you!”
‘Yeah, I deserved that.’
Her old subscriber count had hovered around two hundred thousand, having since become a number well beyond imagination.
“
Huh.
So now you have more subscribers than me? That kinda pisses me off.”
[So then when's the Saint of Tionis coming back to streaming?]
[He went live for like two hours once, then ghosted everyone.]
[Now’s your chance. Do a collab! Let’s go.]
Davey scowled at the flood of complaints in the chat. “Hey. You guys like comets?”
A line of question marks popped up.
“There’s one passing by Earth soon. Want me to drop it on your houses?”
[ :) ]
[ :) ]
[Please forgive us.]
‘Humans sure are fickle.’
