The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1147

Chapter 1147
The fact that Yuria Hellishana, head of the Moon Forest and eccentric gourmet high elf, went on vacation to Earth was mildly concerning, sure. Yet despite her quirks, Yuria was trustworthy.
Boom!!
Davey blasted open the door to a dust-choked storage facility with a kick. He lightly summoned devil mana and resonated it with the location of the cursed item. Soon enough, he found a trace.
Seeing Davey’s expression darken, Monmider seemed to think something had gone wrong and hastily turned to bark at the soldiers, “Is this really the place?! I, Monmider, am greatly disappointed in you!”
“B-But, Commander!”
“No excuses! However, I too must share the blame. From this moment on, the watchmen will undergo disciplinary actions alongside me!”
As the guards’ faces paled in horror, Davey turned his head. “Don’t get disappointed all the time. Who do you think you are?”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s fine. We’re at the right spot.”
Monmider blinked in confusion. “R-Right spot, sir? But there’s nothing—”
“No, it’s here.” Davey pressed his foot into the hard floor and gave it a twist. As he slowly lifted it, he warned, “Cover your ears, everyone.”

Huh?

Boom!!
Those who didn’t listen and were still standing around in a daze clearly didn’t know Davey well.
Feeling if a flashbang had gone off in front of them, the blast stunned the guards. As their ears rang, they staggered, taking minutes of recovery just to see what had happened in front of them.
The once-solid warehouse floor had caved in, revealing a narrow underground entrance leading to who knows where.
“This is...”
“A hidden basement. Looks like someone put a lot of work into this.”
Perserque fluttered down and crossed her legs while sitting on Davey's head. “There’s a heavy devil presence here. Judging by how poorly it was contained, whoever built it must have been a rookie.”
“Still, hiding it this well was certainly unexpected,” Davey complimented.
All the so-called powerful dark mages always ended up twisted in one way or another. There had been a major purge executed due to their twisted perversions of humanity, and so the ones still left were either some of the remnants or a few who were newly developing dark magic.
Being a dark mage didn’t make one evil. In fact, many across the continent researched and practiced it, using firm rules and regulations to avoid corruption.
However, as with everything in the world, there were always outliers within certain groups.
From mad scientists to crazy mages, there was nothing to be surprised about.
Whoever was behind the construction, they’d done well to hide it by using some kind of artifact. Alas, once had Davey discovered it, there was no way for them to stay hidden ever again.
“First Company, hold position. Monmider, take the rest with you and lock down the estate.”
“Are you sure, sir? If we seal the estate off, that’ll cause chaos—”
“What chaos? I’ll be done in thirty minutes.”
With that, Davey descended into the darkness.
The scent of blood was thick, yet there had been no s of deaths nearby in the previous month. As such, the blood couldn't have belonged to the locals.

Tch.
What a stench,” Perserque complained.
“At least they were smart enough to make preparations.”
At that moment, pools of blood around them began to ripple and swirl.
“Blood golems,
huh?
Not exactly something any sane person should research.”
Blood magic was just a poor imitation of vampire abilities. Even in the murim, it didn’t have the best reputation.
“I don’t have Super Ribbon with me. Should I just crush them?”
“No need. I’ll handle this, you just have to observe.”
Acting unusually assertive, Perserque stood up and prepared to leap off his bushy head of hair.
“Too much activity is bad for the baby, though.” Not wanting to expose her to any negativity, Davey wanted to take care of them himself.
However, she’d been restless, and he couldn’t stop her completely. “Don’t worry. It’s just a warm-up.”
They probably thought they had hidden themselves well. To be fair, Davey had been distracted and almost neglected to discover their machinations. Still, once the veil was lifted, the sloppiness was obvious.
She gently leapt from his head and landed on the floor. A soft light shimmered as she returned to her full size. Light then gathered at her fingertips, forming into the Transcendence’s Demise, the staff that Odin had given Davey.
Perserque rarely had the opportunity to fight directly anymore. She was no longer the Demon King, nor was she the sovereign of the Abyss. She no longer had the authority of the Demon King, no longer the being that had driven the continent to chaos.
The fact that Davey rarely allowed her to fight certainly played a part in that, as well. It had thus been quite a long time since she’d had a proper warm-up.
She tapped the staff gently on the ground before demonic force began to surge around her. Sensing the shift, the blood golems stirred and lunged at her.
She then muttered in an unknown language. Soon after, the room was filled with the sound of droplets falling onto a still surface.
As if she had consumed and taken control of the surroundings, she calmly recited an incantation.
[Dystopia.]
Once she finished, the area began to tremble as if it had become her domain, responding to her will. The blood golems that had been approaching her were torn apart by an invisible force and scattered into nothing.
Not even a single drop of blood could make it near her before disappearing. Even the pungent stench of blood had vanished completely.
Spatial control magic.
It seemed to be her unique magic, with something slightly unusual about it.
“You’ve recovered quite a bit,” Davey marveled.
“Which is basically nothing, since you’re my standard for comparison. Even if I regain my peak strength, it won’t change much.”
She spun the Transcendence’s Demise around lightly and slid it back into the special Pocket Plane she had that was connected with Davey’s. She then shrank back to her small form and hopped back onto his head.
“Did you just step on me with bloodstained feet?”
“Pardon me? You really think I wouldn’t be careful? Shall I show you?”
She teasingly removed her shoes to reveal spotless white feet before Davey just shook his head and turned away. They then passed beyond the barrier that had shattered from the aftermath of Dystopia.
Fwoosh! Clang!!
A crimson dagger came flying at Davey, yet before it could land, Aina had already deflected it with ease.
“Aina.”
“Orders?”
“No killing, just subdue them. You’ve got thirty seconds.”
She gave a small nod and replied with icy cold eyes, “Shadows, subdue them. You have ten seconds.”
‘Wait, I said thirty... Why are you cutting that down to ten?’
Before he could say anything, black shadows slid out from behind Aina like a silent tide.

A-Ah!!
W-What the hell?!” yelled someone in the distance.
“G-Get off me!”
The screams of a man and woman only lasted so long. It took just nine seconds for them and the entire interior to turn silent once more.
As they entered the underground chamber, Davey saw three people pinned to the wall, small knives protruding from their key joints.
“Didn’t even try to run,
huh?

“Damn it...” one of them cursed.
“Not that they could’ve.”
Davey had already established a wide-range interference field the moment he knew they were here. Without spatial warping abilities, there was no chance they could escape.
Glancing at their robes, Davey’s eyes narrowed. “What the... these look like Illuminati robes. Well, sort of.”
The design was almost identical to the Illuminati faction Davey had wiped out once before, with only slight differences. Not that it was surprising; he had completely purged the original Illuminati.
“Damn it! We were so close!” One of them, visibly enraged, spat the words out through gritted teeth. It wasn’t just anger, but the fury of someone whose grand ambition had been ruined.
“You guys do know whose territory you chose to shack up in, right? Why pull this crap here?”
“Shut up! You murdered our master!!” the middle-aged man snarled, hate burning in his eyes. He leaned forward to spit, yet before he could do so, an invisible force had already slammed down on his skull.
“Per...” Davey softly rebuked.
“He’s getting on my nerves. Couldn’t help it,” Perserque said coolly. Perched elegantly atop his head, she reached into the air like a queen issuing judgment.

Grrr...!

The man trembled violently under the pressure until Davey slowly raised his hand to stop Perserque. “Hold on. I’ve got some questions to ask them first.”
Fwoosh!
The force vanished in an instant. Davey calmly approached and asked, “Calling me your master’s killer? I’d prefer to know what exactly I’m being accused of before I kill you.”
“Shut your mouth! You not only took our master’s life, but also the lives of our entire order!” the man roared.
Davey just smiled gently. “
Ah!
So you’re truly associated with those Illuminati fucks somehow. Do you even know what those bastards did?”
The man scoffed. “So what? The world runs on survival of the fittest! The weak are devoured, it’s only natural! That’s why we became dark mages. Now that we finally have power, it’s our turn to devour others, just like you did!”
He stared at Davey with a look that could kill.
“You rose up the same way... by crushing others with power! Don’t act like you’re better than us, you goddamned hypocrite!”
Davey gave him an amused smile. “And?”
“What...?”
“Even if it’s hypocrisy, I followed through and succeeded. What did you do?”
The man was stunned speechless.
Davey couldn’t help but marvel at how idiotic the man was. Hypocrite or not, the process was the same. What mattered was the intent behind it.
“If someone’s crying out for help, and a hypocrite reaches out their hand, does that make them their savior? I’ve made hypocritic decisions to make my life better, but it never harmed those I helped. So, what’s the problem?”
The man ground his teeth in impotent rage.
“One more question,” Davey said with an expressionless face. “How many did you kill?”
“Hahaha! Curious, are y—
Gaaa?!

Before he could finish, Davey had grabbed him by the neck and lifted him into the air. Their eyes locked and the man suddenly began to shake uncontrollably.
“I asked you a question. How many people did you kill?”
The man’s gaze wavered as if his mind had gone blank, overwhelmed by the unimaginable fear that rushed into him. Since Davey had consumed a portion of dragon power in the past, manifesting Fear wasn’t difficult.
The man, trembling violently, eventually fell silent. Davey then crushed his skull in with a sickening crunch. He then turned to the others.
“Not gonna answer?”

Kyaaa!
P-Please don’t kill me! W-We used about twenty people per cursed item!”
Compared to the man, she seemed more of a scaredy cat.
“Twenty per item,
eh?
That’s a lot.”
They had five stones, which meant they had killed one hundred people.

Hehe.
Yes, yes! We collected them from countries in the west and central continents, making sure to stick to poorer ones with bad security. I—I told you everything, so you’ll spare me, right?”
“Who said that?”
Crack!!
He killed her in an instant. Even if he did spare her, she'd just live to make hell again. He knew it was better for her to meet her end right then and there.
Perserque had closed her eyes way before the killing had begun. He assumed she thought what he was doing was too disturbing for the baby.
He then turned to the last individual, a young man. “You? Got anything to say?”
“Nope. Just kill me.”
“I don’t know if the guy you people call your master was the mastermind behind this place—I must admit it was hidden pretty well at first. However, once I picked up the flow of devil mana, I could already track it to the ends of the earth.”
Even from the start, they had no outside help. They’d clearly tried to pull off something sinister in Heins Territory, but he had cut them off before anything truly abhorrent or devastating happened.
“What I can't get over is how such a well-laid plan fell apart right at the end.”

Hmph?

“Yeah, it’s bullshit. Just ridiculous. Our plan probably wouldn't have hurt you directly at all. Even if undead raised here ran rampant in Heins Territory and injured civilians, who’d really blame you?”
Still, the news that undead had appeared in the domain of a Saint alone would already be enough to shake public opinion.
“If it had been able to leave even the tiniest blemish on your record, that would’ve been enough for me. We would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids. Damn this unfair world,” he complained.
His bitter mutter made Davey tilt his head.
“What in the fucked up brainwashing did the Illuminati even do to get their zealots this messed up?”
“Even I couldn’t tell you,” Perserque commented.
Whatever their reasoning, it no longer mattered.
“It’s all thanks to you idiots making a mistake that I was able to find this.”
He held up the cursed item with a red X marked on its forehead.
“See this? You dumbasses lost this across the dimensional barrier. That’s how I found you.”
The man narrowed his eyes and silently stared at the cursed item. “You’re fucking with me, you liar.”
“What?”
“That’s not ours.”
‘Now what kind of bullshit is this?’
“You’re telling me this thing isn’t yours?”
“It’s not. I swear it’s not!! Damn it! Who? Who’s behind this?!”
The man finally understood what had happened. Their careful preparations had all unraveled, but it was simply because of a cursed item they didn’t even make!
Davey was also stunned. He had assumed all four were theirs, but apparently he'd been mistaken.

Aaaahhh!
Damn it!!” Realizing that one fake cursed item had doomed them all, the man howled in rage.
Aina smashed her heel into his face and knocked him out cold. “What should we do?”
“What do you think? Show mercy to someone who plotted to kill my people?”
“Wouldn’t executing him damage your saintly reputation a little?”
“If you’ve got a problem with it, you can have the Saint title instead.”
“I’m not even a man.”
“Just transform into Jack, then.”
There was no point in sparing terrorists.
Once they left the dead dark mages behind, Davey stared grimly at the cursed item with the red X on it.
‘So there’s another party involved.’
Even with divine power, he wasn’t able to detect any other dark mages in Heins Territory. That meant either they weren’t there anymore, or the dark mage was strong enough to completely wipe their trace to the point he couldn’t perceive them.
He knew the former would be better, as the latter would make for a very serious issue.
He couldn’t exactly ask the heroes of the hall for help. As for Goddess Freyja, she’d just turn their meeting into a dress-up session the moment she saw him.
‘Ugh. What a pain.’
“Davey, isn’t this one kind of different from the other cursed items?” Perserque asked, studying the one with the X.
“Different? What do you mean?”
“It doesn’t feel like it has human blood in it.”
Startled, he quickly poured mana into it. Sure enough, it was just monster blood.
Not human.
He couldn’t believe how he had missed it, frowning as the realization sank in.
“You... don’t tell me you only checked the first three and didn’t bother testing the last one?”
‘Ah.’
Of course, that was exactly what he had done. He had figured that if four were the same, the last would be too. He had made such a stupid mistake.
“This is ridiculous.”
The one with the X wasn’t dangerous. More accurately, he couldn't even figure out what it was meant for.
The monster blood inside wasn’t from a species capable of using dark magic. It was like a rabbit trying to operate a voice translator. However, that absurdity made things even more confusing.
“So let me get this straight. We caught the real dark mages... only because of this fake one?”

Kuku.
Utterly foolish,” Perserque snickered.
He ended up being fooled into executing the real deal by a fake cursed item. Davey seriously wanted to see the face of whoever made the thing. He could tell that it had clearly come from within Heins.
Being duped right under his nose, his face burned worse than dealing with the actual dark mages.

Ha. Haaahahehehe.

“Davey?”
“Whoever you are... I swear, if I catch you—”
His rage surged. That feeling of being toyed with in the palm of someone’s hand didn’t sit well with him. Even if they hadn’t intended to fool him, his pride had taken too heavy a blow.
“Davey? But you did catch the real ones thanks to it—”
“Yeah. Credit where it’s due. But still...”
Rewards were one thing. Revenge was another.

Haaah.
You're worse than a kid sometimes,” she complained with a shake of her head.
“I don’t care who it is... if I catch them, they’re done.”
Davey grinned darkly with the X-marked cursed item in his hand.
