The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1148.1
Chapter 1148.1
Yuria Helishana and Rinne’s philosophies regarding food couldn’t be more different.
Sure, both would eat anything as long as it tasted good. However, them not being picky didn’t mean they lacked preferences. When it came to their favorite foods, they hated any outside interference or dissenting opinions.
They were food-obsessed maniacs; the ultimate gluttons; and the epitome of culinary extremism.
That was how Davey described them.
Rinne, bristling with killing intent, held the World-Destabilizing Spear. She looked as if she were about to charge at any moment. Yuria summoned her spirits to prepare for an attack.
In terms of raw force alone, Rinne had an overwhelming advantage. Even so, Yuria was as bright as ever, unconcerned about the situation.
“Oh my, you’re really going to use that? If you unleash that kind of power here on Earth, don’t you think the Gracious Savior will notice right away?”
Neltarid would call him for help in a heartbeat.
Even if her strength had dulled compared to Davey’s, once she began drawing on the power of Sephiroth, she could wield enough might to make even a Princess of the Abyss wary.
The only thing keeping her in check was this space, Earth. However, Rinne knew all too well that there was no good in getting Davey involved. And so she had no intention of escalating the situation further.
Ssss...
The spear in her hand quietly vanished.

Just as Yuria flashed a smug and was about to say something, Rinne lunged toward her. She grabbed her cheeks and pulled.
“Rinne evaluates Yuria’s tyranny lowly!”
If she couldn’t use her powers, then she'd win with brute force.
“
Waaa!! Gaaa!
!”
Yuria twisted and screamed. She ordered her spirits to yank Rinne’s long hair white she grabbed her cheeks in return.
The two were now locked in a ridiculous fight over food. Evangeline couldn’t help but make a shocked face.
“W-What are you two doing?! Stop this instant!! How are you fighting over food?!”
Even her yelling couldn’t break them apart. Watching the pair wrestle over food, Evangeline felt secondhand embarrassment. Unable to bear it anymore, she silently pulled out her phone and called someone.
Roughly five minutes later, someone came barging in.
Bang!!
The room froze as Illyna burst in, absolutely fuming. “What the hell are you two doing, brawling like children in front of Evangeline?!”
The moment she appeared, the chaos came to an abrupt standstill.
* * *
Even though Illyna had put the fight to a hold, the cold war that followed wasn’t going to fade so easily.
Yuria and Rinne sat apart, shooting each other sharp side-eyes, only to snap their heads away in sync after Illyna sternly glared at them.
“Seriously, you’re not kids. Fighting over food? Rinne.”
“Awaiting orders.”
“All that fuss is just because someone added hot sauce to your cheese pizza? And you, Yuria. Throwing a fit just because Rinne took a bite of your sweet and sour pork?”
Both of them exploded at once in the face of her scolding.
“It was the last piece with no sauce!”
“Rinne asserts that adding anything to cheese pizza is an insult to Rinne’s beliefs!”
They both had their own culinary preferences, and they were fiercely uncompromising.
“
Haah.
Just order another one. I’ll pay.” Head already throbbing, Illyna pulled out her phone and started tapping in an order.
She could tell that even if the world were ending, those two would still be throwing hands over condiments. Honestly, she could hardly believe how ridiculous they were.
What made it even more absurd was that they were famous within Heins Territory for their apparent closeness and camaraderie.
They had a lot in common, and empathized with each other more than anyone. Yet once a disagreement was sparked, it always devolved into a mess.
“
Haah.
I’m leaving now. If you two start fighting again, I’m not holding back next time, got it?”
“Okay!”
“Orders received.”
Their responses came with a tinge of defiance. Yuria dragged out her words and Rinne answered while pouting. Exhausted, Illyna decided not to press further.
“Eva, did you stream yet today?”
Evangeline gave her a smile. “Yup! I’m thinking of doing another one tonight.”
“Cool. Do it if you want, but just don’t overdo yourself.”
“Okay!” Evangeline, beaming, casually stuffed a slice of cheese pizza loaded with hot sauce into her mouth.
How such a small mouth could consume food at such ravenous speeds remained a mystery. Well, to be frank, the reason wasn’t exactly unknown. Her true body, after all, was more than capable of swallowing pizzas by the platter without breaking a sweat.
“
Oh,
I almost forgot! For the time being, stay away from Heins Territory,” Illyna warned.
“
Huh?
Why?”
“Davey’s pissed. Not sure who did it, but apparently someone tricked him with a fake dark mage cursed item. They do say it helped him track down real dark mages in the end, but he’s still grinding his teeth over the fact that he got played.”
A cold sweat rolled down Rinne’s cheek.
“
Huh?
Rinne, what’s wrong?”
“N-No problem detected. Self-diagnosis shows active component cleansing.”
“Cleansing through sweat? Really?”
“N-New function!”
Her lies weren’t even convincing, but Illyna simply tilted her head and let it go for now.
Yuria spoke up from the side, “
Ummm.
What did Gracious Savior say he’d do once he found out who it was?”
“You know him—Davey doesn’t forget stuff. Honestly, sometimes he can be such a child.”
Davey had effectively spent a thousand years in the Red Void. Even though he had lost memories of staying there, the fact that his soul had remained there for practically as long as time itself stayed true. Even so, he’d never changed a bit.
The phrase that people don’t change easily summed up his current situation perfectly.
‘And that’s why... I like him.’
Illyna knew that if he never changed, it meant he would always keep loving her. She turned a little red at the thought.
Yuria, noticing, flashed her a teasing smile. “Oh my. Are you thinking naughty thoughts?”
“
Oh,
shut up, would you?” Blushing, Illyna sighed and composed herself before slicing open a dimensional rift. It wasn’t a full opening like Davey’s, instead more of a tear, but her display of control over dimensional rifts was impressive nonetheless.
“
Oh,
right.” After tossing the last slice of pizza into her mouth, Evangeline followed Ilyna out.
The only ones left behind were Yuria and Rinne. The two sat in silence for about fifteen minutes in the wide, empty studio, staring each other down.
Yuria, still smiling sweetly, eventually spoke, “Looks like this town ain’t big enough for the two of us, partner.”
Her tone was gentle and elegant. Yet it was easy to tell that it was a provocation.
Rinne met her eyes and slowly nodded. “Rinne states she will prevail.”
They looked ready to go at each other all over again. It was only then that a sound in the distance made them stop.
“Your delivery is here!”
Hearing the cheerful voice, Rinne leapt up. “Rinne proposes a ceasefire.”
“Accepted.”
When faced with more food, their rivalry could only be postponed. They were indeed two maniacs dead serious about food.
* * *
The moment someone messed with the other’s food, their fragile peace would shatter.
Annoying as the other may be, any provocation could lead to total gastronomic warfare along with the destruction of their own precious dish. So both Yuria and Rinne tread lightly, keeping a wary eye on each other.
It was a quiet, simmering truce.
“I think we’re in big trouble, don’t you think?” It was Yuria Helishana who broke the silence in their cold war. “The Gracious Savior is going to hunt us down, now. Why, of all people, did that thing have to end up in his hands...”
She let out a sigh of frustration over the dark mages and the dimensional disturbance. If there hadn’t been any dimensional disturbance, their armored boar project would’ve concluded successfully.
However, the plan had taken a turn, and all that was left was the fact that they had struck Davey first.
She couldn’t help but feel complex at how things had spiraled.
“There is no evidence. Therefore, Rinnie is confident that Master Davey will never know.”
“You really think so?”
“Affirmative,” Rinne reassured her.
Yuria figured Rinne must have thought it through before giving such assurances. In other words, as long as they didn’t get caught, they’d definitely be fine.
That was when her long elven ears twitched.
“What do you mean I should do a mukbang? Why would anyone stream themselves eating?”
They heard Evangeline talking from the other room. It seemed she had started her stream, and was talking to someone.
“No way, why would I show myself eating? That’s embarrassing! Besides, I’m full already!”
‘Mukbang?’
Yuria and Rinne turned to each other, exchanging puzzled looks.
“Rinne, do you know what that is?”
“According to Rinne’s intel, a mukbang is the act of streaming oneself eating food. A highly stimulating form of content.”
Yuria’s eyes sparkled. “What kind of food?”
It was almost suspicious how smoothly they were conversing despite being at each other’s throats moments before.
“They typically consume simple, well-known dishes from take-out restaurants. However, sometimes the streamer prepares the food themselves.”
Yuria’s eyes gleamed even brighter. “In that case, it’s a way to introduce new tastes to a wide audience?!”
“Affirmative.”
Rinne herself didn’t care much, happy as long as the food tasted good. Yuria, however, had always been different. Not only did she want to enjoy good food, but she also wanted to share it with others.
The only problem was that her idea of good ingredients often proved too... adventurous.
“That sounds fun!”
“Rinne asserts it is currently impossible.”
Yuria’s head tilted in confusion. “
Huh?
Why?”
“Yuria, Rinne determines you have lost trust from Evangeline.”
Yuria pouted at her blunt assessment. “Then... we should just start our own stream...”
“Rinne s that new streams average zero to ten viewers. Rinne analyzes the probability of success to be low.”
Yuria bit her lip, suppressing her disappointment. She thought for a while, but still no miracle idea came to her.
She eventually gave up and sighed, only to turn to the fridge. “
Oh?
What’s this?”
Her eyes lit up as she pulled out a pack of sausages. “This is perfect to eat with drinks! I grabbed it first, so it’s mine.”
“Rinne is currently in possession of amrita[1] and special nirvana sauce. Rinne requests sausages in exchange.”
“
Ooh,
that rare sauce... deal!”
The two had no issues completing such a deal. Yet, little did they know what chaos they were stirring for Evangeline.
1. Amrita is a Sanskrit word for immortality, taken to refer to the nectar of the gods in Indian religions—similar to ambrosia in Greek mythology. ☜
