The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1163
Chapter 1163
After Davey left, Reina and Super Ribbon continued their cafe shifts like nothing had happened, one of the customers staring at them in disbelief at what had happened.
“Welcome! What can I get you?”
“
Ummm.
Are you okay?” the man asked Reina in a confused tone.
Reina nonchalantly responded, “What do you mean, sir?”
Moderation couldn’t hide his confusion. “I mean... Evangeline just disappeared...”
“Sir, I’d appreciate it if you refrained from trying to engage us in idle chatter while we’re working.” Reina drew a firm line with a bright smile, only making him frown even more.
“You think this is just idle chatter?! Evangeline suddenly disappeared!”
“
Haah.
Sir, no, Seung-Hyun? I don’t think that’s something you need to worry about.”
Seeing Mr. Jung signal her to wrap things up, Reina stepped out from behind the counter and approached him.
“What are you going to do if something happens to her? Aren’t you worried? I mean, I know Evangeline’s strong, but still...”
“He went.”
No response.

That single line left Moderation, no, Seung-Hyun speechless.
“The sisters went with him.”
He had no idea what to say
“You have no idea how many protective spells are usually cast on Evangeline, do you?”
If someone had kidnapped her with malicious intent, it would only be natural to worry about what kind of situation she might be in. However, that clearly wasn’t the case.
“It’d be a lie to say we’re not worried, but all we can really do is wait.”
“But the enemy kidnapped Evangeline without a sound! If things are really that dangerous, they might even—”
“Seung-Hyun.”
“Yes?”
“He’s someone no one can harm, even if they wanted to.”
It was a statement filled with conviction, so factual and demonstrably true that he had nothing to say in response.

“
Ssss!!!
”
Giant lizards with blue scales, each at least two meters tall, opened their jaws wide as energy gathered in their mouths and formed into a condensed sun-like core. It wasn’t long before they unleashed a scorching beam.
Boom!!
As the massive energy scraped across the ground and roared toward Illyna, she casually lifted the sheathed Caldeiras and struck the beam away to throw off its trajectory.
It wasn’t just brute strength or skilled swordsmanship that made her move possible. Her Continuum-Attacking Blade achieved it by interfering directly with space itself. In fact, aside from Davey, she was the only human capable of tearing open dimensions.
What she had done was simple. She hadn’t cut through space itself—she had only distorted it slightly with a brief slash. Such precision showed just how astonishing her skill and talent were.
Naturally, the Butterfly Empress, who watched it all, could only stare in a daze.
She was aware that she had died once before, then for some reason had been granted a second life. Furthermore, she was able to use the power delivered from an unknown source to recreate the island she once resided on.
Humans were untrustworthy and always capable of betrayal. Therefore, they were her enemies by default. Still, since the people facing her were supposedly the family of that dragon she was trying to make a pact with, she didn’t plan to kill them. She had only intended to intimidate or subdue them before forcing them off the island.
However, reality was different from her expectations.
“What the hell kind of monsters are those people?!”
“
Eek!
No! Game over, man! Game over!” Evangeline screamed, clutching her head and trembling. “When Mom gets mad, she’s seriously terrifying!”
Boom!!!
A massive wyvern plummeted from the sky after being overwhelmed. Seeing this, the Butterfly Empress tried to calm Evangeline. “Calm down. I know they’re strong, but this castle is well-hidden. Unless a very specific condition is met, no one will ever find it—that is, unless the whole place sinks.”
“R-Really?” Evangeline asked again with wide eyes, and the Butterfly Empress began to feel like something was seriously off.
“But why are they so angry?” the woman asked.
Humans were untrustworthy, and she believed she understood them well. However, what she was seeing didn’t follow any pattern she knew. She couldn’t understand what the dragon child had done to make them act the way they were.
Urging her to talk, the Butterfly Empress gently nudged Evangeline. Tearing up, she began explaining, “
Well...
”
She had come to Earth for the first time and started living on her own. With no one to supervise or interfere in her daily life, she’d started living however she wanted. Over time, she had become lazy.
Cooking became a hassle, and naturally, she started skipping training too. She then eventually discovered fried chicken, which completely captivated her.
The first step was the hardest. After that, things became a lot easier.
Humans were fickle creatures. Once she started earning her own money, her wallet got heavier, and so her spending habits worsened.
Living alone, she avoided everything that was bothersome and only sought out comfort. She became the perfect, incredibly lazy example of how wrong living alone could go.
Hearing all that, the Butterfly Empress frowned. “You ignored all the food your parents made for you, and chose to live like
that
?”
“B-But you don’t understand how good fried chicken tastes!”
“Just get out, you brat.” The Butterfly Empress let out a long sigh and tried to drag Evangeline out.
Her head throbbed. The fact that she had risked exposing herself to humans just to propose an alliance with someone like Evangeline made her want to curse herself.
“N-No! Please, spare me!” Evangeline clung to her desperately. “Dad may be scary, but Mom’s even worse when she’s angry!”
“
Haaaah.
” Feeling the headache rushing in, the Butterfly Empress shook her head. “I’m withdrawing the proposal I made to you.”
Grimacing from the sharp pain in her head, she waved her hand dismissively. “
Ugh.
I need to take care of the situation quickly. I can’t let them get in any further...”
However, she suddenly realized that the three people seen through the window overlooking the island’s landscape had disappeared.
“
Ugh?!
”
Busy talking to Evangeline, she had completely lost track of the invaders.
Frantically waving her hand, she scanned the entire island for traces, yet the three weren’t in any of the areas she searched. They instead appeared in a place they should never have been able to reach.
“No... That’s impossible!”
The three of them were standing just outside the door where Evangeline and the Butterfly Empress were. She couldn’t believe they had reached this place in such a short time.
Overwhelmed by instinct, her body screamed that she had to escape immediately. Just as she tried to open a portal to flee, Evangeline clung to her desperately. “
A-Ah!
No, wait!”
“Let go! My dress is going to tear!”
“I’m not letting go! Take me with you!” Evangeline sobbed.
“No! You can just stay here!”
“You’re seriously abandoning me like this?! You always talk about how humanity betrayed you, and now you’re doing the same to me?!”
“Sorry, but we’re not in the same boat just yet.”
Despite pushing Evangeline’s face away with her hand, the Butterfly Empress didn’t use any excessive force.
“Please! If they catch me now, I’ll really be in trouble...”
“And?”
“H-Help me...”
Seeing her plead so desperately, the Butterfly Empress let out a sigh. Just as she reached out to take the girl with her, the door suddenly burst open.
The Butterfly Empress swatted away the incoming debris. Her expression turned fierce as she gripped her arm.
“Where do you think you’re going?”
“Human...” the Butterfly Empress muttered with a guarded look. There was only one human she knew of who could break into her castle like that.
The human standing before her possessed a power that defied reason. She recognized that clashing with him in her injured state wouldn’t end well.
Her mind was filled with the desperate thought that she had to escape.
“Let’s do this the easy way, then. Send Evangeline over,” a voice called out.
“I will! Just get her off me first!”
After she snapped back in irritation, Davey and the two women who followed him turned their eyes to Evangeline. Startled, she flinched and tried to hide behind the frustrated Butterfly Empress.
“What are you doing?! Hurry up and go back to them!”
“N-No! We’re allies now! We share meals and everything!”
Evangeline was trying her best to get the Butterfly Empress to take her with her on the escape.
“W-Who said we’re allies?! Stop spouting nonsense and go already!!”
It was like a kidnapper trying to return a child to her parents, only for the child to throw a tantrum and refuse to go back.
A truly absurd situation was happening right before their eyes.
“Enough already! Just go back!” Finally losing it, the Butterfly Empress grabbed Evangeline and shoved her away, summoning a gust of wind to blow her out.
Evangeline still somehow managed to stubbornly cling to her, even partially releasing her Polymorph to hang on.
Watching the ridiculous scene unfold, Perserque let out a sigh, “
Haaah.
”
Sensing the oppressive energy in that sigh, Evangeline froze on the spot, trembling. The Butterfly Empress seized that moment to hurl Evangeline toward them, then swiftly reached her hand out into the air.
She hated humans, but she knew that it wasn’t the right time to strike them down.
She began transforming into light, casting herself into a rift and fleeing.
Davey didn’t bother chasing after her. Instead, he turned his gaze to the lone Evangeline, who was glancing around nervously. A soft smile appeared on his face. “Eva.”
She flinched, backing away cautiously as Davey approached. Then, without a word, he pulled her into a hug.
“
Ah—
”
“I was worried. You’re not hurt, are you?”
He had said he was going to scold her, but she did suffer a kidnapping. Hearing his concerned voice stirred something deep inside Evangeline.
She finally burst into tears and clung to him. “
Hic...
Dad... I... I’m sorry... I’m really sorry...”
Davey watched her sob and apologize, smiling gently.
“It’s okay. You’re safe, and that’s what matters. Skipping meals is a bit of a problem, but I probably could’ve kept a closer eye on you too.”
Evangeline found his reaction to be strange. Just moments before, he’d seemed ready to scold her into oblivion, yet now he was being so kind?
Even so, she looked up at him quietly, then saw his warm smile.
“I forgive you.”
Her face lit up with relief at his words.
“But I don’t think those two feel the same.” Davey tilted his head toward Illyna, who had her arms crossed; and Perserque, who was smiling sweetly.
“M-Mom...”
“So, you at least recognize that you messed up.”
That one line marked the beginning of hell.
* * *
The place the Butterfly Empress arrived at after tearing through space was a building in a small city. It was the same one containing the cafe she had visited not long ago to check on the humans.
She hadn’t returned there ever since encountering those maddening children, yet by pure coincidence, she found herself back.
“
Phew.
First, I need to recover my strength.” She clumsily moved with a grimace.
Even in a world so different from her homeland, humans existed.
Humans were everywhere! Every time she saw them, memories of the betrayal she’d once suffered surged back with unbearable intensity.
Grinding her teeth, she pressed forward. Returning to the island was impossible for the foreseeable future. In fact, depending on how things played out, she might never find a chance to go back.
She never imagined it would take just three humans to take control of her island, let alone within minutes out of nowhere.
‘If only I had my full power...’
As her frown deepened, someone approached her. It was a tall figure in a jet-black robe, wearing a crow mask.
“And you are?”
“Your helper.” Hearing those words, the Butterfly Empress smiled warily, unable to hide her suspicion as she locked eyes with him.
“You’re not fully recovered yet, are you?” He pulled a bracelet from within his robes and held it out to her.
“This will restore your power completely,” he said in a cracking voice.
She slowly reached out for the bracelet. “There’s something oddly familiar about you.”
“You must be imagining things,” he chuckled darkly.
She gave him a confused look. “Well, fine. As long as I get my strength back, revenge won’t be hard.”
She still didn’t know why she was resurrected, or even where her power came from.
“So, what is it that you want from me?” she cautiously asked
“What else? I’m just here to help you get revenge. Simple, right?”
“And what do you get out of it?” Still suspicious, she pressed him for more answers.
He just shrugged. “Well, that’s perso—”
Slash!!
One of his shirt sleeves had been instantly sliced clean off his arm. He flinched and looked at the Butterfly Empress. “Oh my! Such a violent young lady. So much fury buried deep inside... yet you hesitate to act decisively.”
“Shut up!”
“You hate humans, don’t you? If you want revenge, then do it properly.”
He snapped his fingers.
In the distance, a massive explosion erupted. It was a gas explosion. Black smoke billowed into the sky as he spread his arms. “Like this. So? Will you join me now?”
She didn’t know what to say.
“You still don’t seem to get it. Let me give you some advice, if I may. You and I? We’re the same—our foundational essence is destruction.”
He spoke as though he knew her, then turned his back to her. “I’ll visit again.”
“You... You plan to destroy humanity, too?”
“
Hm?
Nah, I don’t really care about that. But I do have my own plans, as I’m sure you’ll see.” He vanished in an instant, his cackling laughter echoing in his absence.
The Butterfly Empress frowned for a bit before eventually turning around. Her feet carried her, almost unconsciously, toward the location of the cafe she’d visited before.
However, she never got to visit the store after her walk. She literally couldn’t—the cafe where she had once tasted that decent coffee was engulfed in red flames.
She stared at the burning cafe in silence. Then, without a word, she turned away and crushed the bracelet in her hand. “That pisses me off. How dare you.”
