The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1164
Chapter 1164
Evangeline knelt on the floor with both hands raised high, sniffling with snot and tracks of tears running down her face.
Ever since she’d been dragged back from that Butterfly Empress’s island, Davey had scolded her until her tears ran dry. He scolded her so thoroughly that her eyes got puffy from all the crying.
Someone with a true rebellious streak might’ve taken serious issue with being scolded so severely. After all, she’d been literally kidnapped and yet was still getting yelled at over eating delivery food. Even so, Evangeline just didn’t have the time or energy to rebel.
The main thing holding her back was the scale in front of her. After just a few days of engaging in her streaming habits, her weight had noticeably increased. In the middle of their scolding, Perserque, worried sick, had said to go on the scale and see for herself what she looked like after how she’d behaved.
Gaining weight wasn’t inherently a problem for the average human, of course. However, a change in an ancient dragon’s weight wasn’t such a simple matter. It was instead a warning sign of something more dangerous.
That day, Evangeline witnessed Perserque, her beloved mother, be angry like never before.
Her lazy mindset and the messed up daily routine had slowly begun to turn the body of Evangeline, who hadn’t even completed her growth yet, upside down.
One must understand that ancient dragons could eat ten whole fried chickens a day without gaining a single gram of weight. Yet, that unspoken law had been broken.
Rebellion aside, the fact that her eating habits had led to weight gain left her struck with sheer terror, leaving her no room to even think about rebelling.
There had been a real change, and it was observable. Only then did Evangeline begin to recognize that her body had changed slightly from before.
On the outside, she looked the same, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that her belly had started to stick out.
“Evangeline,” someone approached and called out, making her open her eyes wide and lift her head.

“M-Mom...”
It was Illyna who had appeared in front of her. Without a word, she came close and gently lowered her arms. She sat down in front of her, then brushed her cheek with a hand. “Are you alright?”
Evangeline didn’t know what to say.
“Y’know, Aeria didn’t go through all that effort making food just to annoy you.”
She remained speechless.
“Ancient dragons are different from humans. We still don’t fully understand their origins or how they grow.”
That was why Davey had done extensive research from every possible angle, trying to figure out what would help her grow properly.
“What Aeria made was carefully curated to make sure your body stays healthy as you grow.”
If she had already completed her coming-of-age ceremony, it wouldn’t have mattered if she lived that way for hundreds of years. Still, she had yet to reach adulthood.
“You haven’t exercised at all lately, have you? It’s not just about swinging a sword, Eva. Davey designed a system in his own way to help your strength, directing your power to circulate properly throughout your body.”
By that point, even with a rebellious streak, there was nothing left to say in her defense.
“I’m sorry...” With her head bowed low and her voice trembling, Illyna silently pulled her into an embrace.
“When your body’s hurting, we’re the ones who suffer the most. Please don’t forget that.”
Evangeline didn’t quite know why, but something about the words she said tugged at her heart and made her tear up again.
“
Hic... hic...
”
In the end, Evangeline quietly cried as Illyna hugged her ever tighter.
Her rebellious phase, which had shown no signs of easing, was finally beginning to soften just a little.
Neither Illyna nor Davey realized it, but her mind was slowly yet steadily beginning to mature.
* * *
After Illyna and Perserque left, Evangeline took some time to pull herself together and eventually made a big decision.
“Starting today, I’m only going to stream for six hours a day max.”
That simple statement had a massive impact on her broadcast. She had been streaming for eight or even twelve hours a day in the previous weeks, then suddenly she was drawing a clear line.
[???]
[Why is boss acting like this all of a sudden? Did we do something wrong?]
[Don’t go, don’t go, don’t go, don’t go!]
“You guys know as well as I now do that I’ve been streaming too much. That’s why I gained weight.”
[???]
[Wow, boss is lying to us now?]
[Where exactly did you gain weight?]
[No, having a little extra on you just makes you look better.]
[Don’t go, don’t go, don’t go, don’t go]
Their reactions were explosive. Oddly enough, the two notorious chairman trolls of her stream—the ones who usually stirred the pot the most—had yet to say a single word.
Ding!
[Constellation Leo has donated 50,000 won.]
- It’s impressive that man held it in this long—ancient dragons aren’t human.
Just one short sentence.
For a hardcore troll like it to say that, something so sincere, showed just how much Evangeline had neglected herself while obsessing over her streams.
“Alright. Since even the chairman said that, I’m not going to say anything more. I’ll just do some simple drawing today. I’m hungry, but I have to hold back.”
That was when the door suddenly opened. Two very familiar yet totally out-of-place faces appeared in the doorway.
They were none other than Rinne and Yuria, the core members of the Gourmet Research Society.
“Yuria? Rinne? What are you two doing here?”
Yuria spoke up, “Eva, Rinne suggested we eat together.”
The savory aroma of fried chicken instantly filled the room, making her mouth water. Yuria was holding a box of fried chicken.
Those two disasters had apparently used the gate from Heins Territory and popped right in to eat with her.
“
Ugh.
”
[??? They’re back lolss]
[Those two showed up again hahaha]
[So they were still alive.]
[After all that chaos here we go again lol]
“
Ugh.
No! Starting today, no more fried chicken!” Evangeline shouted through gritted teeth.
Yuria and Rinne exchanged glances and tilted their heads in confusion.
Despite the betrayal and fight they had between each other last time, they acted like nothing had ever happened.
“
Hmm.
Well, I guess we have no choice. We’ll just eat it ourselves, then.”
To make matters worse, it was half fried chicken and half sauced chicken.
Evangeline wiped the drool forming at the corner of her mouth.
Once she went through her coming-of-age ceremony, she could eat as much chicken as she wanted and it wouldn’t matter. While her body was strong enough that a fried chicken or two wouldn’t even show, after the shock of seeing her weight on a scale, she felt she had to be especially careful for the time being.
“
Wow!
Rinse, I sure love the way this melts in one’s mouth. I think it’d be even better with some of the Gourmet Research Society’s special seasonings.” Yuria smiled blissfully while devouring the chicken.
Evangeline, watching the two, couldn’t help but grimace.
Grit.
[lol look at boss grinding her teeth]
[lmao these devils. She just said she’s on a diet, and they’re eating fried chicken in front of her like it’s nothing (T-T) They’re just playing with her at this point]
That wasn’t the end of it, either.
After Evangeline left the room in irritation and came back with a dish of sweet salad made with special vegetables, Rinne tilted her head again.
“Evangeline, Rinne evaluates the taste data of your meal as extremely low.”
She then stood up, grabbed a piece of soy sauce chicken in one hand, and approached like she was playing airplane with a toddler.
“No... stay away!”
“Rinne confirms that one bite will provide valuable taste data.
Ah. Ahhh,
the fried chicken is vanishing. Vanishing into Rinne’s mouth!”
“Seriously!!” Furious, Evangeline shoved the salad into her mouth.
Rinne paused for a moment, then stared up at her while chomping on another fried chicken piece and devouring it entirely, bones and all.
Speechless, Evangeline’s rage started spiking at an alarming rate.
“
Haaah.
What a shame. I heard you’ve been neglecting your body and something went wrong, is that right? So now you have to manage your meals too.
Tsk tsk,
that’s really unfortunate.”
Grit.
“Then I guess you can’t eat this either!” she said, pulling out a takeout bag containing spicy rice cakes she’d purchased from a street cart. Then she shoved a bottle of cola toward Evangeline.
“Come on, you think eating just vegetables is gonna be enough to fill you up? Here, take a sip of this good stuff...”
“I said get away from me!” Looking at the rice cakes that made her mouth water, her expression turned to pure despair.
The chat exploded with laughter.
[lololol weren’t elves supposed to be vegetarians or something lololol]
[This psycho really just pulled out rice cakes in front of someone on a diet LOL]
“Oh my, I’m not picky at all,” Yuria teased as she popped a rice cake into her mouth and slowly ran her tongue over her lips.
Evangeline’s stomach growled.
She wanted to eat. Right now!
[Damn I’m getting hungry too]
[This isn’t even a mukbang stream, why is this suddenly a mukbang??]
[But seriously... she’s trolling like a pro LOL]
Watching the two annoy her with a look, gloating about the fact that they were eating something she couldn’t eat, Evangeline instinctively realized that they had come all the way there specifically to mess with her.
Her rage finally reached its boiling point. She clenched her teeth so hard they ground audibly, then her eyes snapped wide open.
In that instant, her pupils turned purple and split vertically. A menacing aura swirled around her, and a multicolored orb began forming in her small mouth.
“
Uhhh. Uh-oh?!
” Yuria leaped up in alarm.
Zzzt! Boom!!!
She fired a miniature breath attack that looked like a cannonball, blasting the two away.
It was a sight unthinkable for a normal stream, but for Evangeline, an ancient dragon, that kind of outburst was nothing new.
“
Haaah.
Alright, now that the distractions are gone, let’s get back to the stream,” Evangeline growled savagely, baring her teeth.
“From now on, no more talk about food on stream,” she said as she chomped aggressively on her salad.
[Boss, did you know there was an attack on the cafe where your sisters work? Why are you so chill right now? They’re not hurt, right?]
That unexpected donation made her tilt her head.
“What do you mean? They just got off work a little while ago.”
Reina and Super Ribbon had been acting totally normal. Though they were supposed to be heading to Tionis with Davey for a bit, Evangeline hadn’t heard anything out of the ordinary from them.
[??? Are you serious right now? Just search for cafe bombing and it’ll show up.]
Eyes wide, Evangeline quickly opened her browser and searched. Articles started pouring in.
The location marked in the articles were uncomfortably close to the cafe. If Super Ribbon had gone for her shift, Evangeline was certain she would’ve gone or at least passed by this location.
“How...? But Super Ribbon said nothing happened...” Evangeline whispered, her hand trembling slightly.
[No one knows who did it yet. But eyewitnesses say a butterfly flew into the cafe and then BOOM. One of your sisters, I think Reina, apparently used a barrier to protect everyone, though the entire cafe burned down.]
The chat began to fill with anxious messages, viewers trying to stay calm.
[You’re not... going to the scene, right?]
[Please don’t. We trust you... please don't do this again...]
However, their hope was shattered instantly.
“Listen up, you only get betrayed because you have expectations.”
[Nooo!!]
[Don’t go, don’t go, don’t go!!]
[Crazy! Crazy! Crazy!!!]
[Is she really ending the stream like this?]
[Come on, read the room! This is not the time to end stream!]
Evangeline ended the stream without another word. Her slit pupils glowed even darker while she let out Fear.
However, she didn’t even make it out of the room, with Yuria and Rinne standing guard at the door.
“Move, Yuria!”
“Nope.”
“Rinne on security detail to prevent Evangeline from running off after hearing about the incident.”
Back when she dealt with the dark priest, they’d held back to avoid triggering her powers. But when it came to other dangers, Davey never left Evangeline exposed.
Rinne had said that a butterfly exploded, spoken while casually chewing on her chicken. Evangeline, almost instinctively, had a hunch who the culprit might be. She remembered that woman who never bothered to hide her hatred for humans.
The Butterfly Empress.
Her words and actions always carried subtle contradictions.
* * *
Unbeknownst to Evangeline, the Butterfly Empress Chandra was bound head to toe and tied to a chair, struggling furiously while Davey silently stood in front of her.
“
Mmph!! Mmmph!!
”
Every situation had its variables, every plan its flaws. Davey had already become the greatest variable for her.
“I don’t care what plans you’ve made, or what you’re thinking. Every grave has its story, and even villains—once you dig deep enough—often turn out to be pitiful in their own way,” Davey said calmly.
Sling.
At the same time, he pressed a crimson blade to her neck.
“What should I do with you? Going with my usual instincts doesn’t sit quite right this time.”
No matter what kind of hidden strength she possessed, it didn’t really matter to Davey.
