The Max Level Hero Has Returned!-Chapter 1188

Chapter 1188
To Evangeline, everything she encountered on the uninhabited island was unfamiliar. Naturally, the mysterious figures cloaked in bear pelts were also included in that.
Their identities remained completely undetectable, as if surrounded by a disruption barrier. They also scattered like dust whenever she managed to land a hit. Everything about them made any proper investigation impossible.
As such, after she rashly launched an assault without preparation, it was only natural for chaos to follow.
The price for her rashness and negligence was Rinne’s corruption.
“Rinne!”
In their situation where everyone’s power had weakened, Rinne changed after coming into contact with some kind of gem dropped by the enemy. It was as if she had been encroached by something.
If Evangeline had simply taken a moment to think clearly, she would’ve realized something was off. Alas, she was far too panicked for that level of reasoning.
Clang!
Rinne had a strangely shaped hook in one hand and a lightsaber in the other. Her expression, already naturally expressionless, had grown even colder and more serious.
Anyone would have believed she was encroached and genuinely going after Evangeline.
Clink.
As Rinne approached, the chain attached to the hook’s handle dragged ominously across the ground.

Ah...
” Evangeline’s eyes widened as Rinne instantly closed the distance.
Without a second of hesitation, Rinne swung her hook down. Evangeline hurriedly blocked the strike with her sword.
Of course, the hook wasn’t her only weapon. The moment her first attack was stopped, she slashed at Evangeline with the lightsaber.
However, it never reached her. Evangeline had unleashed a burst of Fear, freezing Rinne’s body in place just in time.
Boom!
Evangeline used that brief opening to knock Rinne away. However, rather than following up with a finishing blow, she stepped back.
She couldn’t bring herself to attack her.
“Snap out of it, Rinne!” she cried out, desperately hoping she’d come to her senses.
Of course, from Rinne’s perspective, Evangeline’s hesitation was a godsend, because that meant all she had to do was stall. She didn’t even need to overthink it.
The key was to keep the fight going with just enough intensity to hold the stalemate.
That was the Gourmet Research Society’s final contingency plan. Since Rinne’s default face was emotionless, playing the part was all too easy with no incredible acting needed.
Her thoughts began running at full speed. She quickly calculated Evangeline’s temperament and current strength, formulating exactly how intense her fake rampage had to be.
Of course, anyone who didn’t know the truth would assume the situation was dire.
“Rinne,” Evangeline said, her hand trembling as she clenched her teeth.
Then she looked up, as if she had made a decision. “I’ll fix you later, no matter what.”
‘Wait, what?’
They were certain Evangeline would never go all out against Rinne. Not with her personality.
However, her behavior clearly indicated that she was prepared to destroy part of Rinne if necessary. The three of them couldn’t help but panic.
- What do we do?
Marky subtly turned to Yuria, who was sitting against the wall with her head down. Yuria bit her lip, pulled out a small clock to check the time, and gave the signal.
- If you unleash too much power, she might find out. Hang in there.
The meaning of her words was clear—get beaten up a little, and just play along.
Rinne stared at Yuria intensely. Despite her expressionless face, the fury in her glare was obvious to her clubmate. Still, she quickly suppressed it.
She then pretended to lunge at Evangeline with all the strength she could muster.
Boom! Boom!
Rinne and Evangeline had never fought so seriously before.
The difference was that Rinne only pretended to launch dangerous attacks, making sure Evangeline would never get hurt.
Even though the whole situation was a hidden camera setup, in truth, it was all intended to awaken her instincts. She was aware that Evangeline might get hurt in the process, but she couldn’t bear to see her truly harmed.
Boom!!
Eventually, all the openings Rinne left behind caught up to her. She didn’t dodge one of Evangeline’s dragon breaths and let it hit her directly. As Evangeline charged in, her semi-manifested dragon claw slammed Rinne’s body, sending her flying and pinning her to a wall.

Guh!

It wasn’t a fatal blow, of course. Even so, Rinne had intentionally damaged part of her inner system and vomited up a mouthful of blood.
“Rinne!” Evangeline rushed to her side.
- I can’t keep it up anymore.
Marky, noticing the change, deactivated everything that was projected around Rinne. The black outfit, the armor, and even the black markings on her cheek disappeared in an instant.
Rinne returned to her original appearance as she coughed in pain.
“Rinne! Are you okay?!
Huh?!

A... Ahh...
Evangeline...” Like someone on the verge of death, Rinne weakly reached toward her. “Rinne evaluates encroachment lowly... Rinne evaluates her own capabilities lowly...”
“Don’t say that! I’m the one who pushed everything too far!”
“Rinne s... that it’s a relief you aren’t hurt.” She gently stroked Evangeline’s cheek with her bloodied hand.
“Let’s head back. We’ll get you treated...”
However, Rinne shook her head, her hollow blue eyes rising to meet Evangeline’s. “Rinne s she can best assess her own condition. Rinne analyzes that after approximately three hours of restoration, she will be able to move again.”
“But Yuria and Marky are also—”
“Evangeline.” Rudely cutting her off, Rinne’s lip trembled slightly.
Nonetheless, if that was what it took to complete the final phase, she’d endure it. She slowly raised her index fingers and pulled up the corners of her lips, mimicking a smile.
On her normally blank face, a beautiful smile formed.
“Rinne s that she is fine. Rinne evaluates that Evangeline heading back up top to the lair is the most logical decision,” she advised, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Her forced smile looked like that of someone who was about to die.
“Rinne won’t die.”
“Wait here. I’ll go up and destroy every last one of those bastards.” With a determined expression, Evangeline rose to her feet.
There was no real reason to go that far, and the correct choice in the situation clearly would’ve been to take Rinne and the others back to recuperate.
However, her instincts were on the verge of completion—she wasn’t able to make rational decisions.
Finally, Rinne pointed to the divine dragon sword lying on the floor. “Good luck.”
Evangeline slowly nodded. She then gripped the divine dragon sword Twilight and quickly headed up the passageway.
The moment she disappeared, in the dead silence, Rinne suddenly shot up.
“Mission complete.”
The supposedly unconscious Marky slowly pushed herself up and glanced around. “Man... If we try to pull another surprise stunt like that, someone’s actually gonna get hurt. Still, are you sure she’s gonna be okay? Once she finds out the truth, that kid’s definitely not gonna let it slide.”
“She’ll be fine,” Yuria responded with a gentle smile. “Besides, our dear young lady has put the Gourmet Research Society through a lot, hasn’t she?” Completely unharmed, Yuria casually brushed the dirt off her clothes with a light flick. “Well then, shall we follow along at our own pace?”
Her carefree attitude made it painfully obvious that the intense battle from just before was all an act.
* * *
Evangeline moved quickly through the long, winding passageway. She gradually increased her pace as she continued and saw no one standing in her way.
Once she finally emerged from the cave, what greeted her was the absurd sight of a massive mansion.
She was shocked, wondering what the place was and who those bear pelted freaks that had attacked them were.
All sorts of thoughts ran through her mind, but one thing was clear...
“I am Evangeline. Evangeline O’Rowane.” Her violet eyes gleamed. “If someone hits me on the left cheek, I knock out every tooth on their right side!”
It didn’t matter what place she had reached—she would have her sweet revenge.
Gathering all the power she had, she marched straight toward the towering doors at the entrance. She then braced herself and forcefully shoved them.
Creak!!
However, they didn’t so much as budge. Some kind of special reinforcement seemed to hold them tightly shut.

Ugh!
Open up!”
No matter how much strength she used, the doors refused to move. She stood there dumbfounded, left staring at the immovable entrance.
She couldn’t understand what kind of place it was, and began to feel uneasy. She began to wonder if the incredibly sturdy doors were indicative of a presence inside beyond her capabilities to handle.
Creak.

Huh?

The moment she lightly pulled on the door, the same door that had just been immovable opened effortlessly, as if the weight from before had never been a thing.
It was only then she realized that it was a pull door, not a push door.
Her face turned bright red, and for a moment, she had no idea where to look.
“No... No, that doesn’t matter.” She shook her head fiercely. She didn’t have time to be embarrassed over something so insignificant. There was a massive mansion right above her treasure trove, and that alone was suspicious enough.
Trying to compose herself, she slowly opened the door fully.
Beyond it lay only darkness, so thick that she couldn’t even see through it. While she didn’t feel any killing aura in the vast void before her, she stepped forward cautiously, on high alert. She kept her head on a swivel, ready to counter the moment she was attacked.
The tension kept building and building, accumulating in her mind until she felt it might crush her. Just as her patience was about to snap, the sound of a switch being flipped rang out before the dark chamber lit up all at once.
Flick!
When she saw what was inside, she froze.
Music suddenly began to play from behind her. She turned around in disbelief and saw Rinne, perfectly fine and tapping on a strange keyboard, playing a robotically precise tune.
“What in the world...”
Stunned, Evangeline turned back to see Blue Ribbon and Red Ribbon standing together, arms full of oversized balloons. Off to the side, she also saw an unexpected figure.
“Dad?!”
He was smiling warmly at her.
The shock on her face could hardly convey the immense shock and confusion blasting through her mind.
[???]
[???]
The stream was still running, all the viewers also able to see what was happening.
“H-Happy bir—birth—birthday!!” Blue Ribbon abruptly shouted, trying to start things off with a celebration, but Red Ribbon glared at her.
“You dummy head! I told you, it’s not a birthday party!”
“B-But... it feels so much like a surprise birthday party.”
“Well it’s not, so stop saying that!”
As Evangeline watched the twins bicker off to the side, her gaze shifted back to Davey.
“Dad... what’s going on?”
Davey smiled gently. “What do you think? It’s a surprise party! You don’t even know what today is, do you?”
Once he finished speaking, spirits began to appear, fluttering through the air. They created a dazzling spectacle all around her.
“Then... Those bear pelt things...”
Davey slightly nodded his head to give a signal. Figures wearing bear pelts then emerged from the shadows, one after another.
They abruptly threw off their disguises, revealing their monstrous white and ripped muscles.
They were all Killer Rabbit incarnations.
“S-So it was all fake...?”
“Yeah. We had our reasons, but... you did so amazing, sweetheart. I’m proud of y—”
Boom!!
He couldn’t finish—Evangeline had launched herself at him with all her strength, driving a missile dropkick square into his stomach.
At that point, it didn’t matter what the situation was. All she needed was to say one thing.
“I HATE YOU, DAD!!!”
Off to the side, watching from a distance, Illyna whispered quietly, “Hey, Perserque... Good thing we didn’t go out there,
huh?

“That’s precisely why we sent Davey by himself.” Perserque gave a victorious smirk.
