Kayden was finally able to see the Librarian. It was funny that he was not able to sense him using his spiritual sense. Not only that, but the laws around him were not very identifiable; the only thing Kayden was able to feel with absolute certainty was a fragment of his own law together with the mage.
The Librarian appeared as a tall and slender figure, wrapped in long robes that seemed to be made of overlapping pages, their edges dissolving into symbols as he moved. His body was partially translucent, and beneath the fabric, luminous lines ran across his form like inscriptions carved into the flesh itself.
His presence was extremely omnipotent in that environment. He automatically caused all the gods in that place to recognize their insignificance; none of them could move even a single finger against that mage. Fear dominated their minds. They seemed to be standing before something superior. It was very similar to the feeling of being close to Thoth, but with the difference that something was missing.
Kayden was incapable of sensing anything within that god's soul. He felt like a minuscule being in comparison, and it was not even because of the difference in strength. It did not feel like that mage was an omnipotent being in terms of power; it felt more like an omniscient being. His eyes seemed to hide the entire truth of the universe, and he reeked of age, he reeked of time.
Never before in his entire life had Kayden seen a being so impregnated by the law of time. It was as if it were a snake coiling around him, trying to claim him little by little in a tireless battle without pauses. In the same way that the law of time consumed that being, it also died in an infinite cycle.
"Pleasure to meet you, Master Librarian." Kayden made a respectful bow. This was a man to whom he needed to show proper courtesy.
"The pleasure is mine, Kayden Heart." The Librarian's clothing was a long cloak made of pages. Those pages flew in the wind and disappeared after a few meters, but within a few seconds trillions of them gathered together and formed a book, which was thrown toward Kayden.
On the cover there were only three pieces of information. The first was the name of the book, known as the Record. The second was the author, known as the Librarian. The third read, "For Kayden Heart." The book was extremely heavy; by itself it was a law of a level that Kayden was incapable of comprehending.
"I walk through existence accounting for history, and your moment has finally arrived." Kayden did not have time to respond when the two of them were teleported to a calmer place, but the problem was that….
Kayden found himself teleported into a library.
The library was formed by impossible structures, with gigantic columns made of matter crystallized by time, curved shelves fused into space itself, and books embedded in the walls as if they were organs, slowly pulsating.
The floor was irregular and alive, alternating between solid surfaces and translucent layers where fragments of ancient realities could be seen, while the air was dense, marked by glowing particles that fell like dust. After only a few seconds, Kayden had two realizations in that place.
The first was that each particle of dust was an entire story. He could feel a small soul within each one; within each was the complete history of a civilization or a mage. Beyond books, there were worlds inside that place; there were universes in some areas. Kayden could feel that it would only take stretching his will slightly toward them to learn about them.
"They are untouched worlds," the Librarian replied. "They are creations so beautiful that I had to acquire them for my collection. It takes an insane amount of time for the universe to be able to generate something so perfect."
Once again, Kayden had the sensation of being a frog in a well. By extending his consciousness slightly, he saw entire worlds shaped by a single law, or entire universes where everything was connected into a single living being. Insane things that made no sense at all, yet still existed. All of that was merely part of a god's collection.
There were worlds with extremely high-level gods, and even so they were incapable of perceiving that they were merely part of another god's zoo. It was completely insane. They lived entirely within a prison, but it was invisible and therefore impossible to break.
The number of worlds and universes stored in that place was insane. This was literally a library of living beings, a library of the universe's existence since the beginning of existence.
"I think we can begin." The Librarian sat down at a desk lit by candlelight. Along with that, a quill appeared in his hands that was clearly at the celestial level; Kayden did not even need to think twice to understand that.
The aura it exuded was the same as those eyes he had seen a few times before. It was something that stood above the gods, at least Kayden believed it to be something like that. In truth, he had many doubts about it.
"Make yourself comfortable." The Librarian began producing ink using his own blood, an ancient process completely unknown to Kayden. The boy pulled out his old, familiar tea and sat down in a reclining chair that he had always used.
"My name is Kayden." This time his introduction was different. "I had a normal life until the beginning of my childhood. During that period, my family died in a car accident." The story being told was different from what had been documented.
This was Kayden's true story. This was where his entire journey truly began. Before he was Kayden Heart, he was just Kayden, Max's nephew who lived in a pitiful state inside a hospital. This side of his story was completely unknown.
Only a few people ever truly learned where Kayden really came from, but time killed most of them. Perhaps some were still alive, but that would be extremely difficult.
The story of his life had to be told in full. Kayden dove into memories in a way he never had before. He recounted every small thought he had at every small moment of his life. It was insane; the memories came to him with far greater ease.
Without realizing it, he found himself completely trapped in the process. He was practically reliving all of his memories at that very moment.
