The Ruined World Was Mistaken for a Game-Chapter 65: Great Achievement (2)

Translator: Dreamscribe
The Tower of Trials was operating well.
Inside the tower, devices for expanding the Magic Barrier were being installed. A single Magic Tower was not enough to prevent the intrusion of higher beings. These devices were also being installed in the newly added cities and villages, and in the center of the largest city, a second Magic Tower dedicated solely to the Magic Barrier was under construction.
Jinwoo looked beyond the far space.
It was too far to be seen from here, but as his vision expanded, he could see the scenery of the boundary. For now, the energy of Erosion still lingered at the boundary, so there had been no change in the space. Occasionally, it would just flicker ominously.
Let’s diligently create a stage for everyone to enjoy.
In the face of the approaching despair, it will never end in utter tragedy.
Today was the day the Goblin Subjugation Battle opened, so everyone was busy challenging the Tower of Trials. Even the senior Heroes were competing to break records.
“The rewards are good too...”
If one defeated the boss of the Goblin Subjugation Battle, they could obtain an E-rank weapon box. Upon opening the weapon box, they could choose a weapon that suited them.
Many weapon types had also been added. Weapons or armor previously found in Rainsword had each been inserted into the Magic Core, then duplicated, and finally set to be dropped randomly by monsters.
“Oh! A Jewel Beetle!”
“Catch it!”
Jewel Beetles, which carried both standard enhancement stones and high-grade enhancement stones, had also been designed. Very occasionally, they would drop a jewel that allowed the addition of one more attribute.
Jewel Beetles appeared at a very low probability throughout the entire field.
This allowed players to experience the joy of growth and the fun of farming.
Gaining strength and training was always tough. But the thing that made that process so enjoyable was exactly what the game was about.
Jinwoo sat on a crumbled stone in front of the Tower of Trials. Feeling the refreshing breeze, he sat leisurely and watched the novice Heroes.
'As expected.'
The Heroes were split into several groups.
Because the languages were different, it couldn’t be helped. There was even a sense of psychological tension, as if they were competing with each other. It was unreasonable to expect them to enjoy it together from the start, unless there was a special place or trigger.
They were pondering over pieces of paper that came out from killing goblins. They tried burning them, using magic, and various other methods. But they didn’t change, and they couldn’t be easily destroyed.
"What is this really?"
“Should we just give up and level up?”
“Ah, I really feel like there’s something to this.”
What could it be?
Stubborn Heroes made efforts to figure it out.
Jinwoo quietly approached and watched them from behind. Just as a novice Hero, who seemed to be a Warrior, tried to scratch the paper scrap with his sword.
“That’s not how you do it.”
“Ah!”
“Kyaa!”
Gasp!
As Jinwoo’s voice suddenly rang out, the Heroes flinched and scattered. Jinwoo let out a slight chuckle and picked up the paper scrap that had fallen to the ground.
“...I see. This is...”
The Heroes exchanged glances, then approached Jinwoo. They immediately realized he was an Arsilan, not a Hero.
“Um..., elder! Do you know what that is?”
“Hmm! Of course! Just a moment..., I need somewhere to sit...”
The Heroes exchanged glances again, then quickly moved to bring a flat stone and made a seat for him. Jinwoo slowly sat on the stone and placed his staff on the ground.
“Ahem, I feel parched from the long walk.”
“Here it is!”
A Hero handed over a water bottle, and Jinwoo drank from it and nodded. He looked at the paper scrap.
A hidden quest is coming!
Something big is coming!
The Heroes looked at Jinwoo with eyes full of anticipation. Jinwoo, holding the paper scrap, moved his lips. But even as time passed, no voice came out. Jinwoo was nodding off.
“Uh, um..., elder?”
“You can’t sleep here.”
As the Heroes tried to wake him, Jinwoo lifted his head.
“Uh, hmm..., I dozed off. Hm? And you are...?”
The Heroes looked dumbfounded.
“You said you would tell us about the paper scrap!”
“Oh, did I? Hmm..., this is...”
As Jinwoo tilted his head in thought, the Heroes sighed.
"If you help me with my request, I think I might remember...."
“Just tell us!”
"We'll help you right away!"
Jinwoo smiled kindly. At that moment, a quest window popped up for the Heroes.
[???] Wandering Old Man
Help the old man who has been wandering Arsilan for a long time to find out what the piece of paper is.
Reward: ???
Smile!
The Heroes' faces brightened. It was because a quest to uncover the mystery of the paper scrap had appeared.
Seeing their sparkling eyes, Jinwoo nodded, then opened a book attached to his waist and put on a pair of magnifying glasses. He looked extremely professional.
“Thank you. Now then..., first, I need horned rabbit hides.”
“Horned rabbit hides?”
“How many do you need?”
Jinwoo paused in thought before speaking.
“As many as possible. Hoho! I’ll be waiting here.”
The Heroes blinked, then set off to hunt horned rabbits. Then, other nearby Heroes approached.
“(Please tell us too.)”
They were English-speaking Heroes.
They also held out paper pieces.
“Oh, yes! The more people, the better. Hohoho!”
A translation window appeared below Jinwoo. He gave the same quest to them as well. Around the Tower of Trials, the Heroes competed with one another trying to hunt horned rabbits.
“Ah, don’t steal my kill.”
“What?”
“No steal!”
As emotions flared, it escalated into duels. Jinwoo pretended to doze off as he watched. The Heroes brought back horned rabbit hides. Eager for rewards, they rushed to present the hides, but it wasn’t nearly enough.
“Hoho, still not enough.”
“Huh? How many then?”
“I don’t know. But it seems quite lacking. Hoho!”
One Hero had brought 10 hides. The one next to him had 12. When told it still wasn’t enough, they became flustered. At that moment, a Hero in the form of an Elf cautiously spoke up.
She was a beautiful Elf, clearly the result of a well-done character customization.
“(Can we gather them together?)”
“Hmm? Together?”
A Hero who understood English looked at Jinwoo.
Jinwoo’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“Are you all fools?”
“What?”
“Huh?”
Jinwoo shook his head with disappointment.
"So you were trying to do all that amount alone? Tsk! You have to help each other out! Goodness! The world’s coming to an end, truly! How can you be so selfish!”
At Jinwoo’s words, the Heroes became awkwardly self-conscious.
The Heroes looked at each other uneasily.
"Uh, um..., shall we hunt together?"
"Party?"
"Yes, let's all do it together."
They nodded and formed a party, then joined up. Thus, the horned rabbit hunt began. As word spread, more and more Heroes showed up.
“Wow!”
“Whoa, that’s a lot.”
A huge pile of horned rabbit hides built up before Jinwoo. All the Heroes gathered around. Jinwoo opened his eyes and nodded as he looked at the hides.
"Hoho, yes..., I used to hunt Horned Rabbits in the past. In front of the pure white castle walls, they dug rabbit holes and swarmed everywhere. Why did I forget? My daughter once cried after seeing a horned rabbit. It looked cute, but it was too ferocious..., she had a rough time. Hohoho! I’m starting to remember now.”
As Jinwoo slowly began to tell the story, the Heroes listened seriously. They were growing curious about the old man before them.
Jinwoo extended his staff toward the hides. The horned rabbit hides then began to break down and transformed into pink-colored leather.
It was alchemy.
“Ooh!”
“It worked!”
The Heroes cheered.
"(Are we friends now?)"
The Elf Hero asked the Hero she had dueled earlier.
“Good? No no! Good! Very good!”
“Good? Very good?”
“Oh! Pronunciation is good!”
“Yeah! I'm very good!”
“Hahaha! Good good!”
The sentence structure didn’t matter all that much.
Regardless of language, they shared joy with one another. After spending so much time hunting horned rabbits, the sun was beginning to set.
"My name is..., Marogo. I don't even remember well when I started wandering around this place. Hehe, I often forget things as I get older. Please understand."
Jinwoo looked at the Heroes.
Their faces were full of anticipation.
“Then the next material is...”
“Huh?”
At Jinwoo’s words, everyone flinched.
“Hoho, I still can’t remember clearly. But I feel like I’ll remember something if I get the next material. Well..., if you don’t want to, just give up. I’ll leave behind this leather made from what you’ve collected.”
Giving up was not an option.
This was an opportunity to solve the secret of the piece of paper that no one had solved. Jinwoo looked at the heroes' expressions and smiled slyly.
“Well then, hmm..., where was it again?”
Jinwoo began to walk. The Heroes followed him. His pace was remarkably fast, and it was difficult for the Heroes to keep up.
A forced march had begun.
After walking for a while, Jinwoo suddenly stopped, then turned and began walking the other way.
“Wasn’t it here?”
His pace was very fast.
“Urgh?!”
“Ah...”
This wasn’t how it should be, but to be honest, it was a little fun.
Anyway, all of this was for the Heroes!
The Creator God’s love was exceedingly harsh.
***
MagicMark had been sightseeing at the Tower of Trials when he ended up joining Marogo’s quest. First it was horned rabbits, then white deer. Then they even took down a giant bear with a massive build.
Perhaps due to spreading rumors, the party size steadily increased, surpassing fifty members. However, not many Heroes could endure this forced march to the end, so the numbers stopped growing.
It became a topic even in Arsilan Worlds, but the advance team didn’t pay much attention. It was just a piece of paper from a goblin, and aside from that, there were countless hidden quests in Arsilan.
Still, when asked, they did lend a hand.
“What’s next?”
“Right.”
The Heroes who met at the Tower of Trials were now completely close. Honestly, many had wanted to give up, but they hadn’t left because they had grown too fond of each other.
About half of them were English-speaking Heroes, and in the beginning, MagicMark, who was fluent in Korean, had a hard time mediating.
He thought it would continue that way, but by now, they no longer needed him for simpler things.
“Do you eat kimchi? Every day?”
“Yeah. Every day! I eat it all the time. Even in Arsilan. The kimchi recipe was invented in Evanth. If you wrap Evanth kimchi and meat together, it’s absolutely delicious.”
“Ooh! You are the Kimchi Hero!”
An Elf Hero who seemed to be American, Blingjena, said that. Blingjena was surprisingly starting to speak Korean little by little. Though it had only been a few days together, her learning speed was incredibly fast.
‘But...’
The Korean she used felt different from what MagicMark knew.
It had a classical tone, like something you’d hear in Arsilan. The intonation was also old-fashioned. It made sense, given that they were in Arsilan, but it still felt strange.
Was it because they were constantly together?
Or perhaps it was due to the special environment of virtual reality.
MagicMark could feel that his pronunciation was improving too.
Maybe it was thanks to the excellent physical body of a Hero that even his tongue moved more easily. In any case, it was a good thing.
‘If this goes on for a few years?’
MagicMark felt a chill.
People around the world might end up speaking this peculiar form of Korean, in other words, the true common tongue of Arsilan.
MagicMark closed his eyes for a moment and imagined it.
He had a vivid imagination.
What if a woman like Blingjena, who had mastered Arsilan’s common tongue, walked into a Korean restaurant?
‘Innkeeper! Bring beer and meat! The largest ones!’
‘Yes! Understood!’
The owner skillfully brought the food.
‘Hmm! So this is Korean beer! Tastes like goblin-piss! Utterly unpleasant! But the meat... it has touched the divine!’
‘You must have studied abroad in Arsilan?’
‘Indeed! Glorious days they were.’
‘I also run a business in Arsilan at night these days.’
‘Ah! A comrade! May blessings be upon your establishment!’
The shopkeeper seemed accustomed to such foreign customers.
''I shall return. Until then, may fortune dwell in your soul! Long live the Creator God!'
The woman left the shop like that.
MagicMark woke from his imagination and opened his eyes.
If greatly exaggerated, such things could happen.
He chuckled softly and erased it from memory. Really, could such a childish thing ever occur?
It was an utterly ridiculous fantasy.
“Gukbap, is it tasty?”
“Worthy of being Arsilan’s soul food.”
“Soul food! Divine greatness!”
“Yes, that’s it!”
Various conversations echoed in MagicMark’s ears.
Somehow, the scene he had just imagined felt like it might become real.
The Heroes sat around a campfire, chatting.
They had also grown fond of Marogo.
By now, they were curious about his story. Each time they brought materials, he tried to recall his memories. Sometimes, he struggled for hours.
"Ummm..., hmm!"
Like now.
From what the Heroes had gathered, he had been wandering for a very long time in search of something precious. After the Lord of Erosion vanished, he had ended up over here, wandering aimlessly. Though his mind seemed unstable, he would sometimes give wise advice, surprising them.
Marogo looked at the materials that the party members had worked so hard to gather and tried to recall his memories. It seemed painful.
“I see. Yes, that’s right.”
Marogo nodded, as if his memories were returning. The collected materials transformed into the shape of a button. Marogo then took out all the materials they had gathered so far. Seeing this, the Heroes all gathered around him.
“Thanks to you all, I’ve remembered everything.”
Marogo stood up holding his staff. The once-dim look in his eyes was now sharp. He waved his staff toward the materials that had been collected.
Paaaah!
The materials they had gathered began to merge into one with a blue light.
“A teddy bear?”
“Huh?”
What was formed was a pink teddy bear. After all the hardship, it was just a teddy bear. It was anticlimactic, but the Heroes chuckled.
“Wow! It is cute though.”
“Bear! Dangerous killer! Crusher! Holy war!”
"...You're only learning strange words again."
But the Heroes didn’t mind.
They felt relieved that this long, long quest had finally come to an end.
There are such anticlimactic quests, too.
That’s life!
Ending like this didn’t seem so bad. They had gained a lot of levels along the way and made fun friends. Maybe they wouldn’t part ways but instead form a guild together?
Not just MagicMark, everyone thought so.
Marogo held the teddy bear in his hands and looked at it for a while. His eyes looked incredibly sorrowful.
“Yes, I had been searching for my hometown. It was a white, beautiful city. There, in that place....”
Marogo shook his head and looked at the Heroes.
“You’ve gone through a lot, keeping company with this old man. Now, show me the paper.”
At the sudden turn of events, the Heroes paused briefly before handing over the pieces. There were several paper pieces among the Heroes. As Marogo stretched out his hand, they all floated into the air and merged with a glow, forming a complete rectangular sheet of paper. But even then, nothing was drawn on it.
“This paper was left behind by those who died longing for their homeland. When Erosion swept across Arsilan, I could not return to mine.”
When Marogo placed his hand on the paper, a map began to draw itself upon it. The completed paper now held the power to reveal the place most longed for.
“Thanks to you all..., I’ll be able to find my lost hometown. Will you come with me?”
“Of course.”
“Adventure! It is a sacred power!”
“Let’s go!”
MagicMark nodded as well.
Although it wasn’t being broadcast, every scene was being recorded from beginning to end. It was to preserve a record of this delightful journey. A red light floated above his head, indicating the recording was in progress, so the Heroes intentionally teased MagicMark or made mischievous remarks.
Marogo raised his staff. At that, magic power surged and swirled around the area.
“Oh, oh?”
"Elder Marogo?!"
Marogo grinned slyly.
“You may not have known, but I was once an Archmage.”
“What?”
“Wha?!”
Paaat!
In an instant, Marogo and the Heroes vanished from that place. They had teleported.
The place where the Heroes appeared had sparsely scattered trees. In front of them stood a fairly large rocky mountain. A river flowed in front of the mountain, and beyond that, the seashore was visible.
“There’s nothing here?”
“Ah..., well, the Erosion...”
“Damn you, Erosion!”
The Heroes assumed Erosion had wiped everything away. They fumbled, unsure of how to console Marogo.
Marogo looked around and quietly took in the scenery.
“Follow me.”
Marogo walked toward the rocky mountain with the Heroes.
When he reached the front of the mountain, he brought his staff up to it. The staff was pulled in as if a key was inserted.
Paaah!
The rocky mountain trembled and began to collapse. But it wasn’t actually collapsing. The illusion was disappearing, revealing its true form.
“Huh?”
“Whoaaaa!”
“Crazy!”
“What the...”
As the barrier vanished, what appeared was a city.
Beautiful city walls came into view, and within them stood many buildings. As Marogo entered, the Heroes followed. They walked along the grand boulevard.
There was no one in the city.
Everything was neatly empty.
“That area had many shops, and over there, the wealthy lived. Hoho.”
“Incredible.”
“Wow! So this was your hometown, elder!”
Marogo nodded.
“There were also many strange beings from the sea.”
“Strange beings?”
“Beings entirely different in both appearance and concept. Their language structure was completely different, so we couldn’t converse at all. Even so, we lived together here..., hoho! It was truly amusing.”
Marogo explained the city as he walked.
“Every street was packed with people. Even at night, the lights never went out, and there were joyful drinking parties everywhere. You should’ve tried the honey wine here..., what a shame! Hoho!”
“It must have been amazing.”
“In early spring, the sun would hang right above those snow-white walls. Then, the entire wall would glow in a beautiful golden hue. Like golden waterfalls flowing down. A sight like that.”
“Wow...”
"It was a scene that announced the end of the long winter."
The Heroes looked at the white walls Marogo pointed to, imagining the scene.
It almost felt like they could see it.
“What a truly magnificent city.”
“Hoho! Yes, it was a city as splendid as our kingdom’s capital.”
“Since the Erosion has retreated, don’t you think many people will come here?”
“Yes, right, they must.”
Listening to Marogo’s stories of the past was quite enjoyable. The Heroes all listened to him.
Marogo sat on a bench in front of a small playground.
He placed the teddy bear beside him.
“I’ve finally returned. Thank you. I can rest now. This place..., to you all.... Ahh..., my beloved....”
It felt like children’s laughter was echoing from the playground.
As the Heroes sensed it too, they looked at the playground with wonder, then turned their eyes to Marogo.
“Elder, did you just hear...?”
“Grandpa Marogo?”
“You’re asleep agai- ah...”
Marogo had his head bowed.
Was he perhaps dreaming a happy dream?
He had fallen asleep with an expression of utter happiness.
His body slowly turned into particles of light and scattered into the air. The teddy bear beside him did the same.
[The 'Wandering Old Man' Quest has been completed!]
[Please name this city that everyone has forgotten.]
“......”
“......”
The Heroes saw the window pop up, but for a moment, no one spoke. MagicMark looked at the playground. He could vaguely see the image of a girl running with a teddy bear in her arms, smiling brightly.
“We should’ve asked him more about his story.”
“Haha....”
“Man..., if he leaves like this....”
The Heroes tried to speak cheerfully to shake off the heavy feeling in their hearts.
Though they were sad, Marogo’s joyful smile came to mind, and no tears fell. It felt like they had given him a wonderful farewell.
“...A city name?”
“Can we really name it?”
It was truly an incredible privilege.
“Hmm..., I’m not good with naming.”
"Let the hero who worked the hardest name it."
Sshh!
Everyone looked at MagicMark. Since he had gone through so much in the middle of it all, they were honoring him with this moment.
Heroes from different countries and Arsilan natives.
This was a place discovered together by people from different walks of life.
MagicMark hesitated for a moment and then spoke.
“International City Marogo.”
All the Heroes smiled and nodded at MagicMark’s words. Any quest could be completed faster when everyone gathered and worked together.
Just like the Marogo quest!
International City Marogo.
A city fair to all, no matter where you came from.
A city where everyone could live happily without discrimination.
