The Ruined World Was Mistaken for a Game-Chapter 66: Great Achievement (3)
Translator: Dreamscribe
With the introduction of translation services in Arsilan Worlds, Arsilan Worlds emerged as the largest space in the world. Soul Link users were inevitably bound to use Arsilan Worlds.
Many of the apps provided in Arsilan Worlds offered such an affluent Arsilan life. In particular, the "Arsilan Workdesk" was receiving a warm welcome from many Heroes. It allowed them to handle all the work that could be done in reality within Arsilan.
It was a subscription model that required two Platinum Coins per month, and five coins were needed for more professional features, but no one hesitated to spend the money.
'Now I can make money in Arsilan!'
'A true blessing for freelancers!'
'Deadlines? I'm not afraid anymore!'
They could fully dedicate all 24 hours!
When connecting to Arsilan Saga via Soul Link, one would enter a deep sleep state. Of course, physical and nutritional status had to be checked intermittently, but as long as it was managed periodically, there was no issue. In fact, more people were starting to exercise in order to connect to Arsilan Saga, which was making their lives healthier.
To prevent accidents, a slight spell was even cast directly onto the Soul Chip itself.
Because Heroes are precious.
Currently, the 'Health Management App' for full access to Arsilan Saga was the number 1 bestseller app.
Since FS Games opened the app market for Soul Link and Arsilan Worlds, many developers had been absorbed in development, and related companies were continuously emerging.
Anyway, since the number of connections to Arsilan Saga was continuously increasing, the number of users of Arsilan Worlds was still rising vertically.
And then, something happened that overturned the ever-growing Arsilan Worlds.
City opening!
That was achieved not by a vanguard heroes, but by novice Heroes!
MagicMark uploaded a video titled 'Our Travel Journal'. It was a vast amount of content, edited clumsily but uploaded using Arsilan Worlds' editing tools.
The quest given by Marogo was literally grinding, so most of it was edited out.
Title: Our Travel Journal (Complete)
With this, our journey has come to an end.
From Horned Rabbits to the city opening.
We spent about ten days together, but so many things happened.
(Attached: Old man Marogo and us)
This is a photo taken before the last quest.
At that time, we were in full enjoyment mode, not even thinking about quests. It was just fun to hang out together. Even now, we’re enjoying our activities together after creating a guild.
Our guild name is 'Pink Bear'.
The teddy bear made by old man Marogo is our guild flag.
There have been a ton of city achievement quests added in International City Marogo. Let’s all work together and complete them!
It’s easier when we’re together, right?
Let’s make International City Marogo the best city!
Anonymous1 (US): You’ve achieved a great feat! You are our heroes.
└ChopCleric: Wow! Even novice Heroes can do it!
GrandSpoon: That’s seriously amazing. Just looking at the quest makes me want to throw up, but you actually completed it. Well, if you're doing it with good friends, everything becomes fun.
Anonymous2 (KR): International City Marogo is seriously awesome. It’s got a different vibe from Evanth. Even Arsilanians are settling in, and if you clear city quests and raise Contribution Points, you can even get a house. I bought a small one on the outskirts.
└Dameyotdesu: I heard you can soon open shops in the shopping district too? They say they’re discussing plans for opening stores or selling goods by registering as business owners. Who knows, maybe you can eat food more deliciously in Arsilan than in real life?
└Anonymous3 (KR): Right, with just Korea nearing a million users, self-employed people need to coexist too.
Hymeng: Guys, that’s not the problem. Everyone’s going crazy and assigning meaning to even the smallest things!
The novice Heroes joined forces and opened the city. It was news worthy of envy, not only to the vanguard but also to all high-level Heroes. In fact, the names of the great Heroes who opened the city were engraved on the gates of International City Marogo. Moreover, the names of the streets inside the city were also named after them.
MagicMark Street No. 1, Blingjena Perimeter Road, SmokingGirl Three-Way Intersection, and so on, the treatment they received was undeniable.
Honor!
It was an incredible honor.
It could not be compared to expensive items.
No matter how good the item you possessed now, eventually, better items would be released. Then, it was only natural for them to be discarded and forgotten.
However, if you could name a city or village and engrave your name there forever? You would be permanently recorded in Arsilan Saga.
What greater honor could there be?
As it was, the vanguard Heroes were already very interested in achievement farming.
They would be able to add one truly magnificent line to introduce themselves.
Everyone’s spirit was fired up.
There must be places that hadn’t been opened yet.
So let’s hurry up and find them!
All the Heroes began to assign meaning even to trivial things. Following wandering NPCs or analyzing every single item dropped by monsters became part of the daily routine.
Heroes who obsessed over the smallest things began to appear.
"Hmm, this looks strange? Why is only this one lying sideways?"
There were many who spent hours studying the various shapes of rocks in the fields or lingering around unique trees or natural environments.
“Hmm, this feels off. There’s definitely something here.”
There was one white tooth among the ogre’s teeth that was the only one not decayed, and one Hero, suspicious of that, pulled it out and collected it.
"What, something's happening! Ooh!"
In truth, it wasn’t a city-opening quest, but it was a hidden quest. If you collected two hundred of those teeth, the Tooth Fairy would appear and give you a Gold Tooth Skin. When worn, all your front teeth turned to gold.
“Ah.”
The face of the Hero who received the Gold Tooth Skin was filled with disappointment.
After wearing it, they launched the mirror app and looked at their own teeth.
“Oh... this is actually kind of nice in its own way.”
The sparkling gold teeth looked quite unique!
The Hero who collected the ogre teeth was satisfied in his own way.
“Wow! That’s amazing. What is that?”
“I got it by pulling teeth from two hundred ogres.”
“Crazy... you totally deserve that.”
The Hero proudly showed it off everywhere.
Jinwoo nodded as he watched the whole scene.
There were still too many hidden quests left undiscovered. Many quests had been created to meet the staff's work quotas, and even now, they continued to increase. When the developers at FS Games came up with a plan, it was immediately implemented, and even that wasn’t enough, Jinwoo himself planned them directly.
Wouldn’t it be fine, as long as everyone was happy?
Jinwoo moved to the skies above Marogo and looked down at the city’s view. All essential NPCs had been placed, and the city was running normally. The setting was that the city operated under Ella’s authority and wisdom.
International City Marogo was governed by loose rules and was far freer than Evanth.
“The city achievement quests have also been properly applied.”
City achievement quests were added not only to Evanth but also to Marogo. They were quests that could only be cleared when all Heroes joined forces. They were also connected to the main quests.
Slowly but surely, everything in Arsilan was becoming unified.
A bit of magic had been cast to help users quickly learn languages.
The number of connections had already far surpassed one million.
Jinwoo could feel the Soul Gate becoming stronger.
“Phew.”
He closed his eyes for a moment and thought about what he desired most right now.
[Transcendent] Soul Gate +2
A heart born of pure will tempers the soul.
The more Heroes are summoned and the more they grow, the stronger the Soul Gate becomes, and accordingly, its authority also improves.
*You can now borrow the power of a Hero to completely subdue and enslave a spiritual being.
*You can now carry more objects.
*Souls that die in Arsilan now head only to the Soul Gate and are not consumed by Erosion.
After confirming the information, a smile appeared on Jinwoo’s lips.
The Arsilanians could not cross into the domain of Erosion, but now, at least within Arsilan, they could withstand it. That alone removed a great number of penalties.
What Jinwoo had hoped for.
It was for the beings of Arsilan to regain their ancient powers.
That hope and possibility were made real by the Heroes.
Now, the Arsilanians could also become a source of strength for the Heroes.
Just as the Heroes gave their all, so too must the Arsilanians.
“Now…”
Now it was their time to move forward.
Jinwoo passed beyond his territory and headed to the far side.
The last Arsilan.
It was a land as vast as Rainsword, but it was an utterly desolate land. Among it, there was an especially barren area, like a desert where not a single blade of grass grew.
There, lived the race Jinwoo was looking for.
They had not even formed a barrier, instead turning their own bodies into stone to prepare for the end.
Jinwoo descended to the earth.
So dry was it that the moment he stepped on it, everything crumbled into dust and scattered. It was a land where not even a drop of water could be found.
Jinwoo looked around.
The land was filled with statues.
Each statue was massive. They were much larger and more heavily built than Jinwoo, with muscles that looked ready to burst. But they hung their heads low and curled up in submission, looking terribly pitiful.
All of their faces bore an X-shaped scar. They had carved them themselves.
Orcs.
A race that worshipped combat.
They considered dying on the battlefield the highest honor, and Ella, in recognition of their valor, had bestowed markings of bravery upon their bodies. The orcs turned to stone were all covering those markings.
Jinwoo passed through the many statues and headed toward the center. There stood Bakal, the Great Chief of the orcs, who was braver than any. His body bore countless scars, but the deepest one was the scar he had carved into his own face.
“We really were too late.”
Once one fully turned to stone, even if the soul became corrupted, they would not move. The soul might suffer, but they would not endure the disgrace of becoming a slave.
That was the path chosen by the orcs.
One hundred years.
More than enough time to become fully petrified. Most likely, they had all turned to stone decades ago. If so, even magic could not return them.
“I wish you would help us.”
The stage where they could give everything of themselves was approaching. Without them, the atmosphere of battle would never reach its climax.
With that intention in his heart, Jinwoo cast a de-petrification spell on Bakal. So much time had passed that it may well have been a meaningless act.
Crack!
Stone dust crumbled from Bakal’s surface.
Crackle!
As the surface began to split, the stones started to fall away. As Bakal moved, all the stone encasing his body tumbled to the ground.
Bakal’s true form was revealed.
Bakal straightened his once-bent body. A wild and overwhelming aura surged from him, like beholding a massive boss monster. The power that once shattered mountains still remained within him.
Bakal stepped forward, staring at Jinwoo. Looking down at him, he clenched his fist. Jinwoo silently met his gaze.
Thud!
A heavy tremor rang out.
Bakal had knelt before him.
“I’m sorry.”
He apologized to Jinwoo.
“We fled in disgrace. We feared becoming corrupted and enslaved by Erosion. Consumed by despair and fear, we couldn’t fight by your side.”
These mythic beings who once boasted of greatness had fallen, and the kingdom of the orcs vanished in vain. Corrupted by Erosion, they lost their light and glory, becoming mere slaves.
When the Core of Erosion appeared, Bakal chose retreat over battle, leading his kin away.
A cowardly orc who ran from corruption.
Blaming his weakness for turning away from combat, he carved the X-shaped scar on his face.
Orcs considered a glorious death in battle the highest value. It would not be an exaggeration to say they lived for that alone. However, Erosion defiled and insulted that value.
Erosion, a corruption beyond death, had crushed them.
That despair and hopelessness left an unhealable scar upon the orcs.
The atmosphere was unbearably heavy.
Bakal deeply bowed his head.
“Your coming to me must mean the final moment is near. A chance for atonement… even if this soul becomes corrupted, I will fight alongside you until the very end.”
“Why didn’t you become fully petrified?”
“…I couldn’t do it.”
There was deep regret in Bakal’s reply.
“Letting my comrades fight alone… that was a humiliation worse than corruption. I realized it far too late.”
“Well, even if you had said you’d fight with me, I probably would have turned you down. You’d just have been another hard opponent for me to protect.”
Jinwoo spoke casually, shrugging his shoulders. When the Core of Erosion was still alive, that truly had been the case.
Jinwoo didn’t blame them at all.
Even the Magic Dragon had fled.
It was only natural.
“Sit. I’ll tell you an epic tale.”
Jinwoo took out some high-proof liquor from subspace. It was traditional Korean soju. He had taken a few bottles from his mansion. Bakal hesitated at Jinwoo’s words, then sat on the ground. Still like a sinner, he couldn’t raise his head.
Jinwoo handed Bakal the bottle and told him everything that had happened. As the story progressed, Bakal’s expression filled with shock. When Jinwoo told him that he had destroyed the Core of Erosion and claimed its power as his own, Bakal let out a deep breath and closed his eyes.
“You have achieved a truly great deed.”
“I didn’t do it alone. I just gave a little help.”
Jinwoo stood up from his seat.
“The battle isn’t over. This is only the beginning.”
Bakal lifted his head to look at Jinwoo.
“War.”
Jinwoo smiled.
“A war is coming.”
This war would be one for the fate of Arsilan.
Everything had to be staked.
They had to do all they could.
Bakal’s gaze trembled.
Cracks began forming on the surface of the many surrounding statues.
Jinwoo raised his hand.
His immense power, connected to the Soul Gate, revealed itself.
Bakal was dumbstruck by the sight.
What words could he use to truly praise that authority?
The Immortal Archmage.
A being who transcended humanity and stood shoulder to shoulder with mythic figures.
Even if despair tore him apart, even if fear crushed him, he kept moving forward. Dying thousands and tens of thousands of times, he reached a transcendent realm no one else could.
He must have endured unbearable hardships, yet there was not a single trace of torment on his face.
He was smiling as if he was having the time of his life.
Watching that made even Bakal feel uplifted.
Bakal couldn’t help but be astonished.
Burdened with guilt, he now found himself filled with anticipation. He was longing for the battlefield again, just like in the old days. His heart, which seemed to have died, was now pounding fiercely.
Bakal trembled.
That Archmage might be even greater than Ella’s once-glorious golden light.
“In my name, I declare this here and now.”
A declaration as absolute as Ella’s rules and the flow of nature itself.
“Your deaths shall never be disgraced!”
From now on, Erosion cannot claim you in Arsilan.
This Soul Gate will protect the brave.
“Your deaths will become a great glory that prospers Arsilan! Your blood and flesh will become rivers and mountains, and your souls will dwell in new life!”
Crack!
The stone fragments that made up the statues all crumbled and fell away.
The sounds of stone falling from the many statues echoed like the drums of war.
“The coming war will be a holy war greater than any myth ever told! And I need great warriors to grace that holy war!”
Bakal clenched his fist.
His body flushed red with heat. The rising temperature was hot enough to scorch the area around him.
“Are you all ready to die on the battlefield?”
The statues all awoke and stepped toward Jinwoo.
Thud!
The orcs beat their chests and looked at Jinwoo.
They saw in him the same spirit from the time their valor defined them.
“Then go forth like true orcs and carve great feats on the battlefield!”
Now, he could fight alongside them.
Jinwoo found it all incredibly enjoyable. And it was an honor.
“I will return the battlefield to you! I shall share with you the glory of dying in the holy war!”
Jinwoo looked at Bakal.
He nodded and raised his fist into the air.
“Comrades! For the Archmage! For Arsilan! Let us atone!”
“Graaaah!”
“From now on, there will be no more retreat! If I give the order to retreat, kill me. Trample over my corpse and disgrace my soul!”
“Graaaah!”
Bakal’s shout and the orcs’ reply shook the surroundings like an earthquake.
“Let us die on the battlefield!”
“Graaaah!”
Their united will reached Jinwoo.
He felt reassured.
The orcs were ready to head to the battlefield at any moment.
“We are prepared. Lead us to the battlefield.”
“Ah, sorry. That’s going to take a little time. There’s something I need your help with first.”
Jinwoo’s suddenly lighthearted tone caught Bakal and the orcs off guard. Jinwoo looked over the orcs who had awakened from petrification and nodded.
“You can become petrified again, right?”
“It’s possible, but why would we...?”
Bakal nodded as he asked.
The petrification was a spell cast by an orc shaman.
“I think it’ll be a killer setup if we use it as part of the production.”
“Uh, what?”
"The lines you just said were also... pretty good. Remember those too."
He had given Bakal a rough explanation, but it seemed he still didn’t understand.
“It’ll fit perfectly into the village opening quest.”
Jinwoo poured what he had experienced and witnessed into the quests.
A village for the orcs was already prepared. Built in a style quite close to orcish tradition, it was of considerable scale.
Though it couldn’t accommodate all the orcs, that was no problem. After the village was opened, they could be sent to the International City or other villages.
“Bakal.”
“Hmm?”
“My speeches have improved, right?”
Jinwoo mimicked the orcish shout a bit.
“For a mage, not bad.”
“I normally don’t do this kind of thing, but I’ve gotten used to it.”
Jinwoo, too, had become deeply immersed in Arsilan Saga.
Even the Archmage Jinwoo was becoming one with everyone else.
Bakal let out a short chuckle.
“Follow me. I’ll show you what needs to be done.”
“Understood. I will follow your command.”
“You can look forward to it. It’ll be quite fun.”
Bakal and the orcs followed Jinwoo outside.
How much will our Heroes love this?
They’re going to go wild, aren’t they?
The Orc Village Opening Quest was going to be quite fun.
