The Rules of Blood-Volume Two ; Chapter 59 (275) - Halfway There

Right before dawn, after they were done, Velakia returned to her tent, still caught up thinking about Blanc.
It was foolish to think she had a chance of convincing him not to tell his wives; that was never an option. Despite everything they had just done through the night, it was as clear as day that he loved them deeply.
Though monogamy was the norm in her kingdom, she understood now why polygamy existed in other places, such as the Empire. She had always seen it as a selfish game, a way to collect lovers as if they were trophies. Men or women gathering spouses without care, without love, just possession. But now, she saw how wrong that view had been.
And Blanc was the reason.
The people in his life, he didn’t just keep, he cherished.
Time and time again, in their conversations, no matter the topic, he somehow ended up talking about one of his wives, his siblings, or his parents. Always with pride. As if their accomplishments were his own.
He had told Velakia more than once: if it came to it, he would die for them. Gladly. As long as they lived.
That confused her.
She loved her family, her younger siblings, and her friends deeply. But she would not die for them. Her life had value, and as long as her heart beat, it was hers to protect, not that of others.
But Blanc thought differently.
His heart beat not only for himself, but for others. For him, his family, his wives, and his unborn children were everything. It was a love that had no end. A bond that could not be broken.
A rule of blood, as he called it.
Blood for Blood.
If his blood had to be spilled for his Blood to survive, he considered it a good death. If that wasn’t love, what was?
She knew then why polygamy worked for men such as Blanc.
It didn’t matter if there was one or countless around him. He had the heart to care for all, even if it ruined him. She could only hope that a man would love her like that.
But that did not make her jealous of Blanc’s wives, regardless of what she might have felt for him at that moment.
On the contrary, because she saw Blanc and how it was, she was happy for the two women and even happier for Blanc to be surrounded by people who cared for him.
Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; any sightings.
It was weird how quickly things changed in her mind.
But that only changed how she saw Blanc, nothing else.
They couldn’t be together; they couldn’t be what she might have wished to be. But at least, for the man she grew to… respect, she could erase some of the problems she might have caused.
Not by sleeping with him some more, that would be foolish to do again, as that would only make things worse for both of them. But by doing the same thing Blanc planned to do.
To write a letter to his wives.
After a few gulps of water for breakfast, Blanc, Tahreni, Lendros, and Velakia began walking towards the city of Prida, where good food and enough supply not to grow hungry for the rest of their journey awaited.
Or that’s what Blanc kept repeating as he began writing the contents of the letters in his mind. He was panicked to say the least, but not in the way he expected. He wasn’t afraid to tell the truth; he was actually longing for it.
Celine wouldn’t judge him, but tell him not to mind such irrelevant things. She might actually request to bring Velakia back with him and Sera for Celine to have a taste or two as well. After all, he knew his wife and her preference in romance.
He could only be happy that he was the exception to the rule.
But he also knew his other wife. Miyanna… she was ruthless.
Not only in bed, or her free, sharp tongue, but her fists were no joke either. Any threat she made after they married, she made sure to bring it to an end, one way or another. And she knew how to take her revenge on him.
What were those things exactly? Blanc would rather not talk about it.
Not only was it embarrassing to talk about, but the bigger problem was that he might have enjoyed some of them way too much. But some of her ideas were too ruthless.
And even though Miyanna enjoyed that same roughness to be reciprocated, Blanc could only worry about what she would conjure as punishment for going against her threat.
Still, leaving any jokes aside, he worried about their pregnancies, their health, and their well-being, even if he knew the two were safe.
And so, to at least not be another headache for the two, he planned to write with honesty, to apologize properly to them both in writing as well as when he returned.
And to make sure not to do it again.
For what is an apology if, after you write it, you go and do the same thing?
One could only hope he would keep his word this time.
The thirty miles towards Prida went by quickly.
A bit after noon, despite the harsh rocky terrain that slowed them down, the open gates of the city came slowly into view as they walked around the hill that blocked their view.
Prida, from the outside, was a magnificent city, the walls of the city being made from gigantic boulders.
It was expected that such a wall would be uneven, and so, all around the city, there were ropes and suspended wooden bridges that moved the guards from one point of the wall to the next.
It was a masterpiece of a city looking from the outside.
And from what Blanc heard from Lucien, it was an even bigger masterpiece on the inside.
It was the city that marked the halfway point of their journey.
And the last normal city they would get to see until they reach Blood Seraph and his sister.
