Chapter 18: Paired Resonance Trial, Part Eight
{Akari}
[The fuck?]
Something’s moving in the crowd, but my brain’s too busy trying to break this bullshit Silence to process what it is.
Then I see her.
Reina’s walking down those bleacher steps like she’s on a mission, each click of her authentic Demonias echoing through the suddenly silent gym. The way she moves... purposeful, dangerous, like she’s about to start something worth watching.
I’d be horny if, you know, I wasn’t so stressed right now.
[Huh? What’s our hot goth queen doin’, though?]
"Miss Miyamoto," Professor Sato’s voice drips warning like cheap honey. "Return to your seat."
Reina doesn’t even spare him a glance. Just keeps walking, each step a declaration of war in platform form.
The whispers start up again, hungry little things:
"What’s she doing-"
"Is she really-"
"Doesn’t her dad work with-"
Miyuki steps forward like she’s about to lay down the law.
"This is a closed demonstration. If you could please-"
"Shut up."
My dick literally jumps in my panties.
The way she just cut Miyuki off? That raw power?
[Oh...] I blink. [Fuck. Me.]
"E-Excuse me!?" Miyuki replies and I swear, I can see her turning into a banshee in real time.
Reina’s claws click against her silver cross - real silver, because of course it is - and then she YANKS it off like she’s starting a revolution.
The protective runes etched into that silver flare to life, bright enough to make my perfectly applied false lashes cast shadows across my cheeks. The magic pulses once, twice...
And suddenly I can fucking BREATHE again.
It’s like someone just ripped a plastic bag off my head. My magic rushes back all at once, making my expensive-ass enchanted highlighter spark with actual light. Beside me, Haruka gasps as the same thing happens to her.
"What did you-" Miyuki starts, but then those eyes go wide behind her designer frames. She’s looking at something in the crowd.
I follow her gaze just in time to see some basic-looking girl with brown hair slump forward like someone cut her strings. The air around her sparkles with broken magic, and that sweet innocent face twists into something ugly as she glares at Reina.
[Oh shit. That’s who was... Damn, these hoes really came prepared.]
"Protection runes," Reina’s voice comes out bored as she examines those deadly claws. "They block harmful magic. Like, for example, oh, I dunno... Silences."
The gym goes dead silent. You could hear a bobby pin drop.
"So yeah." Her fangs catch the light as she smiles, and holy fuck if that isn’t doing things to me.
She turns to face me then, and despite everything, I can’t help noticing how that sharp cat-eye makes her blue eyes look like they could cut glass.
"Well?" One perfect eyebrow rises in challenge. "You gonna do your thing or am I gonna get scolded like crazy for nothing?"
[That was literally the hottest thing I’ve ever seen.]
My magic hums under my skin, stronger than ever. I squeeze Haruka’s hand, feeling our power starting to sync up like it’s supposed to.
"Thanks, babe." I throw Reina a wink that promises trouble later. "Didn’t know you cared."
"I don’t." She looks away, but that tail tells a different story. "Just hate watching people play dirty."
As she walks back to her seat (and DAMN if that view isn’t worth studying), I turn to face Professor Sato and Miyuki. Their faces have gone from smug to straight-up constipated.
[Time for round two, bitches.]
I feel my grin turn wicked.
[Game fucking time.]
And this time? No one’s gonna stop me from showing these hoes exactly what a gyaru can do.
"Shall we begin again?" My voice drips pure, sugar-coated venom as I turn to face Professor Sato.
He and Miyuki look like they just swallowed a whole lemon. Probably already imagining all the social media posts this shit’s gonna spawn, all the news articles their little stunt just birthed.
Before they can start sputtering excuses, my eyes find that brown-haired basic bitch in the crowd.
She’s sitting up now, looking dazed and pressed as fuck in her perfectly ironed uniform. Thought she could mess with my moment? Think again, honey.
[Don’t even know who you are, but thanks for making this victory even sweeter.]
"Ready?" Haruka’s voice goes low, just for me. Our hands reach for each other like they’ve done a thousand times before, muscle memory from all those... "practice sessions" that definitely violated several school rules and would violate a bunch of social media TOSs.
"Born ready." I squeeze her hand, feeling that familiar spark.
The whispers start up again, like little bits of dust floating through the air:
"No way they actually-"
"Even without the Silence-"
"This hasn’t been done in-"
"Did you see how that goth girl just-"
"Student Pres Miyuki looks so pissed-"
[Watch and fucking learn.]
Our mana begins to flow, for real this time.
No barriers, no blocks, no bullshit Silences. Just pure connection. Haruka’s energy reaches for mine, familiar and warm like when we’re pressed against each other in the practice room. Our frequencies start to align, pulses matching up like two hearts beating as one.
"Remember," she whispers, "just like we practiced."
"You mean before or after you stuck your tongue down my-"
"Focus!" She cuts me off (with a grin, though).
Our joined hands rise, and light blooms between our palms. First my soft blue glow, then Haruka’s deep purple.
The colors swirl together, creating spirals of light and pure mana that twist up our arms like vines made of stardust.
My chrome nails trace glowing patterns through the air, each gesture leaving trails of shimmering magic suspended between us. Haruka matches me move for move, our bodies swaying in perfect sync.
Where our magic meets, it explodes into showers of sparks that rain down around us like the world’s most expensive glitter.
The traditional resonance is supposed to form some boring-ass sphere of white light that indicates the resonance is working.
But this?
This is a whole fucking light show.
Our magic pulses with the rhythm of our movements, creating waves of color that ripple through the air like sound waves at the world’s gayest concert.
Someone in the crowd gasps as the lights begin to spin faster, forming a tornado.
None of that stiff, traditional bullshit here. Our magic moves like we do. Wild, free, and sexy as hell.
The light show above us forms shapes that definitely aren’t in any textbook, unless textbooks suddenly started featuring heart shapes and lipstick marks floating in mid-air.
"T-T-T-That’s not-" Miyuki starts, but shuts right up when our magic stabilizes into a perfect storm of light and color, filling the entire practice circle with pure power.
Perfect synchronization. Perfect resonance... And that would mean our magic would be just a tiny bit stronger if we tried to cast shit right now.
Kinda hard to believe, right? But, that’s literally all Paired Resonance does. Just makes your magic a bit stronger.
All this for that... Crazy.
I can’t help the smirk spreading across my face as I feel Haruka’s excitement pressing against me. Yeah, all this has me pretty worked up too.
Her heart races in time with mine, our power pulsing together like we share the same soul.
In the crowd, that brown-haired saboteur is looking even more pressed than before. I make sure to throw her a wink, just to twist that knife a little deeper.
[That’s what you get for trying to Silence me, bitch!]
Professor Sato looks ready to pop a blood vessel.
His perfectly maintained composure cracks like cheap foundation, showing the pissed-off old man underneath all that "traditional values" bullshit. Miyuki isn’t doing much better, clenching her jaw so tight I swear I can hear her teeth grinding.
When it’s done, we let our mana unwind like a satisfied sigh.
"Well?" I raise one perfectly shaped eyebrow at Professor Sato. His defeat is written all over that crusty old face and I’m going to savor every single second. "I believe we had an agreement?"
His jaw trembles for a moment before he finally grinds out:
"You... will be permitted to participate in the Arcane Symposium."
The crowd fucking ERUPTS.
Some first-years in the back actually start cheering.
I catch Reina’s eye in the chaos. She rolls those ice-blue eyes at me, but I see that little smirk playing at those black-painted lips.
[Oh honey, I am SO gonna thank you properly later.]
"Thanks, Professor." I make my voice sweet enough to rot teeth.
As we walk off the practice circle, hands still linked, I make sure to put an extra sway in these hips.
[Game, set, and match, bitches.]
