Chapter 474: Chapter 422: Who Dares to Secretly Photograph Her
Bai Chengxi faced Zhuo Yuqing with her somewhat naive gaze and suddenly felt extremely guilty. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to tell her about his past; he had thought about explaining it clearly to her. Yet, he felt uneasy and was afraid that she, innocent as a sheet of white paper, wouldn’t be able to accept it.
He had been in a relationship with Su Yingluo for ten years, and they had almost reached the point of discussing marriage. He couldn’t guarantee that she wouldn’t harbor resentments after finding out. People’s thoughts about their exes are complex, and that topic is like a minefield in a relationship. He wants to move forward but is also filled with trepidation.
"Bai Chengxi, Su Yingluo is claiming to the public that she has a fractured bone, but from the photos, it’s clear she doesn’t have a fracture, it’s probably just a twisted ankle. Don’t you think this is big news? This photo is exclusive material."
Zhuo Yuqing showed off to him with a proud face, "To get the photo, I even sneaked in dressed as a nurse."
"Then why didn’t you publish this news immediately?" Bai Chengxi found it odd, as journalists always strive for speed. They would publish any piece of information as quickly as possible to avoid being scooped by others, yet he was certain she hadn’t published this major news because he hadn’t received any notifications. He was very clear about the rumors and gossip swirling in the entertainment circle.
"Actually, I wanted to, but after seeing your assistant going to meet her, I hesitated. Are you planning to poach Su Yingluo for Star Movement? If so, releasing this negative news could have an adverse impact on your company. Moreover, the news might affect Su Yingluo’s future career. So, I decided to ask you first." Zhuo Yuqing bit the spoon in her hand, "Right?"
Bai Chengxi never expected this to be the reason why Zhuo Yuqing didn’t publish the news immediately. It turns out she was considering his feelings, afraid that negative news about Su Yingluo would affect his company’s interests. He suddenly felt deep guilt as she was so thoughtful of him.
"It’s alright." Bai Chengxi peeled a fresh egg for her, his long fingers carefully removing the thin membrane from the egg, "I have no plans to poach her."
"Huh?" Zhuo Yuqing looked at him, puzzled. Then what was his assistant doing?
"I have some old ties with Su Yingluo. The assistant just paid a visit." Bai Chengxi calmly explained, "Star Movement will not sign her, not now, not ever. Moreover, as entertainers, they have no privacy. They’ve been ready to be praised or trashed by the news since the day they entered the industry. So, you can release your news anytime."
Zhuo Yuqing didn’t expect to have misunderstood him. Bai Chengxi’s response was so calm; he didn’t seem to have any intention of poaching Su Yingluo; otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed her to publish the news.
"Then I’ll just release it." Zhuo Yuqing gave him a cheeky grin, murmuring to herself, "Time to hit the headlines again."
Bai Chengxi fully understood what this news could mean for Su Yingluo. He should have stopped it, but he preferred to look ahead instead of constantly looking back. Now, to him, Zhuo Yuqing’s happiness was more important than anything else. Besides, Su Yingluo’s actions were out of line considering her years of experience in the industry.
Zhuo Yuqing, having learned from the lesson of losing news before, didn’t send the photos via email for review but directly called the chief editor and sent both the photos and the article under her and Liu Lian’s names.
~
Su Yingluo had been waiting for Bai Chengxi all evening but didn’t see him. She finally couldn’t resist calling him, but couldn’t get through. She felt that her number might have been blocked by him.
Unwilling to give up, Su Yingluo had Xiao Lan bring the phone she usually used for tweeting—a number Bai Chengxi didn’t know.
Just as she entered the number and was about to call, her phone rang. There weren’t many who knew her private number.
Su Yingluo glanced at the caller ID and answered: "President Lin, hello."
"Little Su, how could you be so careless? Did you really not fracture anything, just twisted your ankle?" President Lin is the vice-president of the magazine, mainly responsible for the review and signing of important news. He was about to leave for the day when suddenly he received an article from the chief editor.
Su Yingluo was taken aback: "President Lin, has someone ed something?"
"Don’t worry. I’ve suppressed the article already. It was a young girl from our magazine who sneakily took photos of you in the hospital room." President Lin looked at the document on his computer, aware that this news, once released, would undoubtedly cause a huge stir.
Su Yingluo turned pale with fright. She had never expected to be sneakily photographed. How could someone have sneaked in without her noticing, and besides taking photos, had they overheard the conversation with her assistant? The proud Su Yingluo couldn’t tolerate others seeing her in such a vulnerable state.
"President Lin, please send me the article," Su Yingluo clenched the phone, the thin veins on the back of her hand standing out.
"All right, I’ll send it to you now," President Lin said as he clicked the mouse, not forgetting the true purpose of his call, "Miss Su, such an important news item has been intercepted by me. If the president investigates, it could be difficult for me to handle."
Su Yingluo clearly understood the hidden meaning in his words, her lips curling disdainfully, yet her voice remained soft: "President Lin, don’t worry, when have I, Su Yingluo, ever let you down?"
"Miss Su is right, haha, then I’ll hang up now."
After hanging up, Su Yingluo’s face turned icy as she said to Xiao Lan, "Check the email; I want to see who’s got the nerve to sneakily photograph me."
"It’s my fault, Sister Luo, I was too careless," Xiao Lan hastily apologized in a panic, "I’ll be more careful next time."
"If there’s another next time, you can go home."
"Understood, Sister Luo, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry," Xiao Lan said apologetically as she went to get the phone.
Su Yingluo thought for a moment and then said, "Transfer money to President Lin’s account, just like last time."
"Okay, I’ll take care of it right away."
Xiao Lan handed the received email to Su Yingluo: "Sister Luo, this is it."
After reading the entire article, Su Yingluo felt a chill run down her spine. If this article really got out, the result would be earth-shattering. Luckily, it was intercepted halfway. Otherwise, she’d have to do so much crisis management to suppress this matter.
She looked at the names below and murmured softly, "Zhuo Yuqing, Liu Lian?"
It was these two people who secretly took photos of her and wrote such an article. She made a mental note of them.
"Xiao Lan, help me look up these two people."
"Got it, Sister Luo." Xiao Lan took the telephone, "Sister Luo, even though the article was suppressed, they must still have the photos. If they realize the news didn’t get out, they might sell the photos to other magazines."
Su Yingluo thought about it and felt that Xiao Lan made a lot of sense. To completely settle this matter, she needed to tackle it from the root. After pondering for a while, she had an idea. She was the cash cow for Orange Light, and they would definitely take care of her affairs. Otherwise, they would be the ones to suffer the greatest loss. Therefore, the problems she couldn’t solve should be left to Orange Light; they would naturally find ways to cope.
"Make a call to Xi Yang, tell him I want to see him."
~
Zhuo Yuqing had originally thought that the news about Su Yingluo would be all over the place by evening, but when she opened the web pages before bed, the internet was still very calm.
The next morning, before she even got out of bed, she grabbed her phone to check the news, only to find that today’s headline was about Xi Yang attending his younger brother’s wedding yesterday,
while the news about Su Yingluo was clean and clear.
Zhuo Yuqing, filled with doubts, was about to call the editor-in-chief when she received a barrage of calls from Liu Lian, "Yuqing, Yuqing, what’s going on, where’s the news about Su Yingluo?"
"I’m also wondering," Zhuo Yuqing was puzzled, "I clearly sent it to the editor-in-chief yesterday, and she was very excited and happy. A promotion for the editor-in-chief were it to explode, she wouldn’t miss such an opportunity." Zhuo Yuqing couldn’t figure out the problem.
While she was still talking to Liu Lian, Bai Chengxi, who had finished washing up, came out, "So busy with work first thing in the morning?"
Zhuo Yuqing quickly said she would call Liu Lian back later and hung up the phone.
"Hurry up and wash up; we’re going for a run soon." Bai Chengxi walked to the bed and pulled her up, but Zhuo Yuqing clung to him like a koala, unwilling to let go: "Can we not run today?"
"No, who was it that said yesterday that they would run and exercise daily with me?" Bai Chengxi carried her into the washroom, "You have to be credible."
Zhuo Yuqing huffed and reluctantly climbed off him to wash her face.
After returning from their run, Bai Chengxi had to go to work, and Zhuo Yuqing still had a day off, but she needed to go to the magazine office to verify the news. Even if her article was not to be published, she still needed to know what happened.
Bai Chengxi dropped her off at the entrance to the newspaper office and then left. Zhuo Yuqing hadn’t even entered the magazine’s building when she heard someone calling her name from behind. Turning around, she saw a neatly dressed young man talking to her with a smile.
"Miss Zhuo?"
"Who are you?" Zhuo Yuqing did not remember knowing this person.
"Miss Zhuo, I am Xi Yang’s assistant. Hello." The assistant walked over, polite and respectful: "Mr. Xi has something to discuss with Miss Zhuo. Could you please accompany me to the café over there?"
"My senior wants to see me?" Zhuo Yuqing did not expect Xi Yang to suddenly look for her, "Do you know what it’s about?"
"Mr. Xi did not say." The assistant’s tone remained very gentle, "Mr. Xi just instructed to show you this if you do not believe it."
The assistant took out a notebook, which was a library card. Of course, Zhuo Yuqing remembered it was from Aus Library, but these cards were taken back after they had graduated.
Zhuo Yuqing opened the first page and clearly saw Xi Yang’s name.
