Chapter 510: Chapter 453 Just Want to Call You
Aunt Tian thought this to herself, immediately feeling elated, and her steps to cook the noodles became light and airy.
Aunt Tian quickly finished cooking the noodles and cheerfully called out to Zhuo Yuqing, who was standing by the door looking around: "Madam, the noodles are ready."
"Thank you, Aunt Tian." Zhuo Yuqing walked up to the table and looked at the bowl of noodles that whetted her appetite, truly, some things still required Aunt Tian’s personal touch.
Aunt Tian said solicitously from the side, "Madam, would you like anything else, perhaps add a couple of sunny-side-up eggs?"
"No need, no need." Zhuo Yuqing quickly waved her hand, "This is enough."
After she finished speaking, she noticed Aunt Tian still hadn’t left, and hurried her: "Aunt Tian, you should rest early."
"Alright, alright, call me anytime if you need anything." Aunt Tian left cheerfully, and Zhuo Yuqing watched her leave, always feeling Aunt Tian looked a bit strange, unable to pinpoint what was off. When closing the door, she even gave her a meaningful smile.
Zhuo Yuqing looked again at the hearty bowl of noodles in front of her, smelling the enticing aroma; even though she had eaten at seven, she suddenly felt hungry again. Taking advantage of Bai Chengxi’s absence, she sneakily ate a few bites of the noodles.
Bai Chengxi returned in less than half an hour with keys in hand. Zhuo Yuqing, seeing the noodles she had eaten a lot of, quickly switched to a smaller bowl, pretending it hadn’t been touched and set it right.
"I’m back." Zhuo Yuqing, feeling a bit guilty, met him and took the coat he had removed, touching the cold fabric, she couldn’t help but chide him, "Why are you wearing so little? It was only a few degrees today."
"I’m used to it. Wearing too much always feels cumbersome." Zhuo Yuqing turned to hang up the clothes,
"Of course." Zhuo Yuqing straightened her chest, somewhat coyly: "Let you look down on me, you should taste it."
Bai Chengxi, who had been busy all day, was indeed hungry. He sat on the chair Zhuo Yuqing pulled out for him, took the chopsticks she handed him, and under her expectant gaze, picked up a few strands of noodles.
In fact, he realized after just one bite that Aunt Tian made it. Aunt Tian had cared for his daily needs for so many years, he could not miss recognizing the taste of her cooking, but he did not call out her little scheme. Instead, he nodded in praise: "It’s an improvement, managing to cook the noodles through is already progress."
Zhuo Yuqing sat down beside him with a laugh, seeing the noodles in the bowl almost finished, she tentatively asked, "Is it enough?"
"It’s a bit less indeed." Bai Chengxi spoke honestly; for a man, a small bowl of noodles was indeed just enough to fill half a stomach.
"Then there’s some leftover dumplings from lunch in the fridge; I’ll heat them up in the microwave for you."
"Great." Bai Chengxi smiled at her.
Zhuo Yuqing brought out the dumplings and put them in the microwave, smelling the tempting aroma, she suddenly wanted to eat dumplings, despite just having sneaked half a bowl of noodles and her stomach was already full. When did she become so greedy?
Zhuo Yuqing sneakily took one and put it in her mouth, the taste was so good she couldn’t help but eat one after another.
After Bai Chengxi finished his meal, Zhuo Yuqing was also full.
She cleared up the tableware and turned around to see Bai Chengxi standing at the door, his gaze particularly tender under the warm light.
"What are you looking at?" Zhuo Yuqing became embarrassed under his gaze.
"Still angry?" Bai Chengxi walked over and hugged her from behind, nuzzling her neck.
Zhuo Yuqing shook her head with a smile: "I was never angry in the first place, you’ve already confessed everything to me, what do I have to be angry about?"
Bai Chengxi smiled in relief, her eyes pure like a spot of clear water; he believed she was truly not angry, this trust moved him.
"Bai Chengxi." Zhuo Yuqing tilted her head to look at him, "With all that news coming out, Su Yingluo’s future might be wrecked, is this really okay?"
She wasn’t concerned about Su Yingluo, but worried that Bai Chengxi would be criticized for not cherishing old ties.
Bai Chengxi smiled knowingly: "I don’t care what others think. Besides, I had already warned her."
His face pressed against her neck, gently rubbing.
Zhuo Yuqing felt something was off, suddenly put down the plate in her hands, took off her gloves, and placed her hand on his forehead: "Why do you feel a bit hot?"
"Hmm?" Bai Chengxi had already felt his face burning hot like a fever; he thought the air conditioning was set too high indoors.
"Are you running a fever?" Zhuo Yuqing immediately dragged his hand to the living room and pushed him to sit on the sofa, "Wait for me."
She quickly went upstairs to fetch a thermometer, hastening her steps due to worry.
Bai Chengxi, however, wasn’t bothered at all; his body had always been strong, seldom falling ill, but he quite appreciated Zhuo Yuqing’s attentiveness, knowing she was making a fuss over nothing - how could he possibly have a fever?
Bai Chengxi obediently let Zhuo Yuqing take his temperature, not forgetting to steal a couple of kisses in the process.
On his way to the Zhuo Family, his heart was in turmoil, fearing that Zhuo Yao would drive him out directly. Though Zhuo Yuqing didn’t say it, he knew the deep affection between father and daughter. She cared most about her father’s thoughts and wished for his blessing. Even if she didn’t blame him, he didn’t want to leave her with any regrets.
"Thirty-eight point five degrees." Zhuo Yuqing suddenly exclaimed, "Bai Chengxi, are you really running a fever?"
Bai Chengxi looked at the thermometer she brought to his eyes, then touched his forehead, realizing it was indeed a bit hot, no wonder he had been feeling out of sorts all the way.
"You go take a shower to cool down, I’ll go find some fever medicine." Zhuo Yuqing pushed him upstairs, "My mom says, although a fever is a minor illness, it can lead to serious diseases and should not be taken lightly."
"I’ve grown up so much, I can probably only remember having a fever when I was a child, don’t even remember it anymore."
"Did you get cold today? The weather forecast said there was a nationwide drop in temperature."
Bai Chengxi chuckled, reminded by her, he suddenly realized that he was indeed quite cold in City A today, probably catching a cold from that chill.
By the time he had finished showering, Zhuo Yuqing was already waiting outside with a cup of water and medicine,
"When you have a fever, you always feel cold." Zhuo Yuqing sat down next to him, still holding the thermometer, "You take a sleep, once the medication takes effect, the fever should go down, if it doesn’t, we’ll have to go to the hospital."
Although Bai Chengxi was wrapped up like a cocoon, he was cheerfully saying, "It’s indeed a bit cold."
"Then I’ll add another blanket for you." Zhuo Yuqing said, about to get off the bed, but Bai Chengxi suddenly grabbed her hand, turning to look into his expectant eyes, "No need for a blanket, just lie down with me for a while."
Due to the fever, Bai Chengxi’s face was flushed, his lips somewhat dry, the whole person looked somewhat disheartened.
Zhuo Yuqing felt distressed about his hardships. If it were not for addressing those negative news, he wouldn’t have to work so hard. Thinking of this, she felt that Su Yingluo deserved her fate.
Zhuo Yuqing got under the covers, wrapped her arms around his neck, his body was still a bit hot, but cold enough to shiver, Zhuo Yuqing hugged him tightly, burying her head in the crook of his neck: "Bai Chengxi."
"Hmm?"
"Nothing, just wanted to call you." She grinned at his chin, "Bai Chengxi."
"Hmm."
"Bai Chengxi."
"Yes."
She kept murmuring his name, in truth, there were many things she wanted to tell him. What did he do today, and where did he get those news about Su Yingluo? How did he feel when he found out Su Yingluo had spent the night with that foreign man? After doing all these things, did he have any regrets now?
But many of these questions had already found their answers without being asked. Some things do not need to be inquired about, as the heart already understands.
Although he never said so, she just knew, he loved her, very much.
Zhuo Yuqing barely slept all night, Bai Chengxi’s fever worsened during the midnight, confusing his mind, she fed him more fever medicine, used a warm towel to compress his forehead and wiped his palms and feet.
It was almost dawn by the time the fever finally subsided, and he sank into a quiet sleep.
Zhuo Yuqing finally felt relieved enough to lie down for a while, but she wasn’t asleep for long before she was awakened by the ringing phone. Not wanting to disturb Bai Chengxi beside her, she took her cellphone and went to the balcony.
"Qingzi."
"Mom." Zhuo Yuqing glanced at her watch, complained, "I was asleep."
Qiao San didn’t feel the slightest guilt for disturbing her sleep, instead, she inquired like a tabloid journalist, "Has Chengxi gone back yet?"
"If he hasn’t come back, where else could he go?" Zhuo Yuqing yawned, feeling very sleepy.
"He left very late last night, I thought he wouldn’t go back."
Upon hearing this, Zhuo Yuqing instantly awoke, "Mom, what are you saying, Bai Chengxi came to our house yesterday?"
"Yes, didn’t he tell you?" Qiao San seemed surprised, "He came over yesterday to apologize to me and your father. You know your father’s temper; he got angry and locked him out. The kid is stubborn, stood outside for several hours, almost turned into an icicle when he came in."
Zhuo Yuqing was slow to react, only then realizing what had happened yesterday. No wonder he suddenly disappeared without a word, he had gone to City A alone. It’s no surprise he caught a fever, in the freezing cold of City A, he only wore a thin jacket and was frozen for hours, it’s a miracle he didn’t fall seriously ill.
Zhuo Yuqing looked through the glass at the big bed in the middle of the bedroom, Bai Chengxi was still asleep, his distinct features warm and vivid, she dazedly watched for a while, her lips unconsciously curved into a smile.
So, he had silently done so much for her.
"Then Dad... is he still angry?"
