Chapter 512: Chapter 454: Lost the Wife and the Troops_2
Bai Chengxi didn’t say anything but just glanced at her silently.
A week later, Zhuo Yuqing returned to work at the magazine company. The news about Su Yingluo was still buzzing after a week and showed no signs of dying down. Su Yingluo was now facing a claim for damages from the film crew. It was rumored that Orange Light was going to terminate her contract and even sue her for compensation.
Su Yingluo thought she had made a clever move, but in the end, it backfired. This outcome was probably beyond her wildest dreams.
Zhuo Yuqing casually picked up a newspaper from the roadside, with pages full of s about Su Yingluo. There were photos of her drinking alone in a bar, looking thin and frail.
"Deputy editor." As Zhuo Yuqing entered the magazine company and just put the newspaper into her backpack, a colleague from the office greeted her with a smile, "Good morning."
Zhuo Yuqing was taken aback and looked around, making sure she was the only one there before asking: "What did you just call me?"
"Deputy editor," the colleague said in surprise: "Yuqing, don’t tell me you don’t even know about your promotion to deputy editor? Oh, right, you were on leave this week. Congratulations, the promotion email has been sent to everyone’s inbox."
Zhuo Yuqing was somewhat stunned by this sudden news. How come there were no assessments or interviews after she was gone for just a week? Had all those steps been skipped?
Upon entering the office, Zhuo Yuqing was greeted with congratulations from everyone, even the editor-in-chief came over personally to congratulate her.
After she thanked everyone with a smile, she hurriedly opened her mailbox and sure enough, there was a promotion email stating that she had been outstanding in her performance and was promoted to deputy editor, and it outlined her responsibilities going forward.
Along with her promotion email, there was also a termination letter, and the person being terminated was Tong Bi.
"Yuqing, that Tong Bi has been fired, did you see that?" Liu Lian, excited, leaned on her desk: "That’s really satisfying. And I’ve also heard that her sleeping her way up the ranks and stealing other people’s work have been spreading like wildfire in the industry. Now everyone knows about a female er named Tong Bi, who cozyed up to the management and claimed others’ news as her own. Some people have even given her a pretty nasty nickname behind her back."
Zhuo Yuqing knew with slight thinking that the shocking news in the entertainment industry must have been released by Tong Bi. She had the experience and knew how to bypass PR tactics to release the news directly. The reason for her termination was probably related to Bai Chengxi, and those unfavorable comments had been deliberately spread by him.
"Tong Bi is really finished now, she won’t be able to stay in this line of work anymore." Liu Lian huffed heavily, "She got what she deserved, who told her to be such a scheming bitch, people like her are bound to meet a bad end."
While the two were talking, Zhuo Yuqing saw Tong Bi, who was walking outside the glass door. Her face was a bit swollen, with wounds on the corners of her mouth and eyes, looking downtrodden, like eggplant hit by frost, heavily impacted.
Tong Bi seemed to realize someone was looking at her; through the glass, she looked up and met Zhuo Yuqing’s indifferent gaze. Tong Bi thought she would mock her, laugh at her misfortune, but Zhuo Yuqing’s reaction puzzled her because she had no reaction at all.
Zhuo Yuqing just glanced twice before she turned her attention back and continued talking with Liu Lian.
Tong Bi hesitated for a moment, wanting to come in but dared not; she knew Zhuo Yuqing was now the deputy editor, and although she had been obscure before, now that this incident had blown up, everyone knew she was the Bai Family’s future daughter-in-law, supported by the Bai Family and cherished by Bai Chengxi.
Tong Bi felt some regret. Why had she believed Su Yingluo and did things for her? As a result, not only did she not get the money, but she also lost her job, and to make matters worse, the popularity she had accumulated over the years in this industry scattered overnight. She would no longer have a foothold in the news industry of Aus City.
In the end, Tong Bi still stopped in her tracks. Now, she was inferior to Zhuo Yuqing.
What she found unfair was that although they both were ordinary girls, why was her life so good?
As soon as Tong Bi left the magazine company, she received a call from her mother. When she was doing well here, she often bragged to her family, and all her aunts and uncles knew she was famous and made good money in Aus City. Her mother often showed off in front of relatives and friends, so every time she went home, she had to buy a lot of branded items for her mother to show off.
So when her mother called this time, Tong Bi thought she would ask for things again, but instead, her mother joyfully said: "Ah, my daughter, we are going to get a bigger house."
"What?" Tong Bi said in confusion, her voice rising. Her parents were ordinary wage earners, now retired, and the family was supported by her. How could they afford to change houses? "Mom, what are you talking about?"
Tong Bi was in a bad mood now, having lost her job, and she couldn’t stay in Aus City any longer. She had already planned to pack up and return to her hometown in City A.
She was born in a small county town and had always longed for life in a big city. After attending university, she stayed to work in Aus City, and her family was proud that she was working in such a big city. She also tried every means to become a real person of Aus City.
"I said, our house is going to be replaced with a bigger one, it’s due for demolition." Tong Bi’s mother laughed very joyfully, as if she had won the lottery, and on the other end of the phone, Tong Bi’s father urged her, "Hurry up and tell her the important part."
"Oh, okay," Tong Bi’s mother responded, "My daughter, wire some more money to me and your dad. We need to afford a bigger house, money for renovation and appliances, and I also told your aunts, our house must be luxuriously decorated, a hundred times lovelier than theirs."
Mentioning money made Tong Bi a bit angry. She had lost her job, where was she supposed to get money for their renovation? More importantly, where did they get the money for a new house?
