Chapter 525: Chapter 463 Don’t Have Ulterior Motives
Luo Shangqing gave her a faint glance: "I believe my students are brave enough to own up to their actions."
Very excited, Mu Chenxi almost grabbed his hand and called him family, "Professor Luo, I swear, I really didn’t hit the person."
"Young girl." At this moment, the old lady who had been standing beside the car suddenly spoke up, "Is this your car?"
"It’s mine." Mu Chenxi hurried forward to check; the bicycle was intact, and the thermos was still in the basket. She couldn’t help but hug it like a treasure and muttered to herself: "Luckily, the lunchbox wasn’t lost."
After she finished speaking, she felt a mocking gaze and turned around to see Luo Shangqing’s teasing eyes, as if to say: "Foodie."
"This..." Mu Chenxi realized she was misunderstood again, just about to explain, the old lady grabbed her hand and said: "Young girl, where did you go? I’ve been watching your bike here for a long time."
"Grandma, thank you so much." Mu Chenxi, feeling disheartened by the misunderstanding, immediately felt a warmth in her heart, "I just went to take that grandfather to the hospital, then his family thought I was the one who hit him."
Upon hearing this, the old lady huffed indignantly: "It’s because of these people who can’t tell right from wrong that it’s becoming harder to be a good person. Young girl, don’t worry, I witnessed the accident myself, it was a black car that hit the person, you did a good deed."
"Grandma, when the police arrive, you must testify for me," Mu Chenxi joyfully jumped while holding the old lady’s arm.
Luo Shangqing stood aside, seeing the two dimples that appeared on her cheeks when she smiled, shallow like whirlpools buried in the sand. Hearing from the elderly, girls with dimples always look pretty when they smile. Although Mu Chenxi wasn’t the type of beauty one would remember at a glance, she had a clean, pleasing appearance.
Soon, the traffic police arrived. Mu Chenxi briefly explained the situation, and the old lady stepped forward to testify for her. After the officer made some meticulous notes, he decided to check the CCTV footage of the area and finally had her sign her name and leave a phone number.
After everything was settled, Mu Chenxi pushed her bike to go to the hospital to deliver dumplings to Mu Kaihua, so she waved to Luo Shangqing: "Professor Luo, thank you for today."
"Where are you going?" Luo Shangqing called out to her.
Mu Chenxi was about to mount her bicycle when she heard Luo Shangqing speak up and quickly jumped off again, "I’m going to the hospital to bring food to my father."
"Your dad works at the hospital? What’s his name?"
"Mu Kaihua, from the ENT department." Like answering a question in class, Mu Chenxi obediently responded.
Luo Shangqing was somewhat surprised: "Director Mu is your father? Why didn’t you seek him out when you were being wrongfully accused?"
Mu Chenxi scratched her hair, "I got so nervous, I forgot he was my dad."
Luo Shangqing: "..."
Luo Shangqing smiled wryly, lifted a foot gently kicked the back of the car trunk, opened it and pointed inside: "Put the bike in, I’ll take you back to the hospital."
Mu Chenxi always obeyed his words promptly, quickly pushing the bike over to stuff it into the trunk, but it was quite large, and lifting it was a bit of a struggle. After several failed attempts, suddenly two hands reached out from the side and skillfully took her bike, swiftly stuffing it into the trunk while passing her the lunchbox hung on the handlebars: "Hold this."
Mu Chenxi took it, happily clutching it in her arms as she got into Luo Shangqing’s car.
Upon arriving at the hospital, Mu Chenxi first delivered the dumplings to Mu Kaihua. Mu Kaihua had surgery and it was unclear when it would be over, so the nurses in his department kindly took care of the lunchbox.
Once Mu Chenxi came out from the department, she saw Luo Shangqing standing in the corridor, already dressed in a white lab coat. The garment sewn together with white cloth looked like it belonged on the fashion runways of Paris when worn by him, his dashing presence enough to evoke envy.
"Professor Luo," Mu Chenxi called out. The person whom she usually had to put so much effort into seeing even once at school, she had encountered several times today alone, and had even ridden in his private car. After going back, her little diary would probably be filled.
Luo Shangqing made a sound of acknowledgment: "That patient woke up, come with me."
"The grandfather woke up, is everything okay?"
"Nothing’s wrong." Luo Shangqing turned to look at her, "Shouldn’t you be more concerned about whether he can clear your name first?"
Mu Chenxi scratched her head: "Did he say anything?"
Luo Shangqing did not answer but led her to the patient’s room on the second floor. As they entered, the family members rushed up to her with thousands of thanks, apologizing profusely while thanking her, the woman who was most upset with her earlier holding her hand continuously apologizing.
"Young girl, it was our fault, we wronged you, my father has explained what happened clearly, it was you who acted bravely and took him to the hospital. If not for you, he’d still be lying on the road right now, thank you, you are truly a kind-hearted good girl."
Facing everyone’s praise, Mu Chenxi felt a bit embarrassed, unable to even interject with a "It’s what I should do."
In the end, it was Shangqing who took her out of the hospital ward, "Final exams are coming soon, how are your preparations going?"
Walking ahead with his hands in the pockets of his white coat, Shangqing asked casually as a nurse smiled and greeted him, "Professor Luo."
He nodded his head and then looked towards Chenxi, who was obviously feeling guilty.
"Pretty good, pretty good."
Chenxi thought to herself, should she take this opportunity to ask about some major questions? She heard that every year during the final exams, Professor Luo participates in setting the exam questions. Since he and her dad are colleagues, maybe he’d give her some hints in consideration of her father.
"Go home and study hard, don’t think about other shortcuts." Before Chenxi could even open her mouth, Shangqing had already seen through her little schemes, making her blush and wish she could bury her face in her pocket.
After returning home, Chenxi opened her journal and wrote a long passage, only to realize that this thick journal was almost filled up. Flipping through the pages, she noticed that nearly two years’ worth of entries were all about Professor Luo, even his medical articles published in various journals, which she had cut out and pasted inside.
Chenxi reviewed everything from the beginning and locked the journal away in the drawer like a treasure.
When Luo Meijuan came in, Chenxi was lying on the bed reading a book with a lollipop in her mouth.
"Oh, my good girl is actually studying." Luo Meijuan peered over and saw that Chenxi was really looking at her textbooks, immediately showing a delighted expression, "What’s gotten into you? I’ve never seen you study at home before."
Luo Meijuan knew her own daughter well; although smart, she never applied herself in her studies. With some supervision, she could be among the top students, but otherwise, she would be at the bottom.
Both her husband and she were busy with work and had no time to supervise her. More importantly, they both had quite open-minded attitudes, always adhering to a "happiness first" educational approach, never forcing or being harsh, everything relying on self-discipline.
As a result, Chenxi did exercise self-discipline all the way into college, even getting into the medical faculty which her father Mu Kaihua particularly preferred, although she failed three subjects in the first semester.
After flipping through the textbook for a long time, Chenxi realized she couldn’t absorb a single word and sat up when she heard Luo Meijuan’s voice: "Mom, do you think I might not get my diploma?"
"Given your rate of failing courses, I think it’s doubtful." Luo Meijuan handed her a freshly baked cake.
As soon as Chenxi took it, a fluffy thing leaped up, meowing at the cake in her hands.
"Get away, stupid Kong Tai." Chenxi, with a look of disgust, tossed the fat cat aside, "You see food and your eyes turn red, not even weighing how heavy you are."
Kong Tai meowed pitifully and then turned to his owner wagging its tail.
Luo Meijuan broke off a piece of cake and placed it in front of him, satisfyingly watching as he grabbed the cake and jumped onto the windowsill.
The setting sun cast a warm winter sunlight across the bed and onto the stack of thick medical textbooks, making Chenxi think of the upcoming final exams mentioned by Shangqing and suddenly feel utterly hopeless.
Soon they entered the intense phase of final exam revision. The library was crowded, and the corridors at night were too full, leaving only a narrow path where one had to shout, "Mind your feet," if carrying a tray of water.
At this time, Chenxi took on the role of logistics, fetching water, buying meals, and supplying various snacks.
"Ah, it always feels like the college corridors aren’t enough during this time." Susu, carrying a small stool, rushed outside to secure a spot. The dorm usually turned off the lights and power at ten o’clock, but this was extended to eleven o’clock on the eves of exams, yet this was hardly enough to satisfy the students who crammed last minute, thus the corridors became the best spot for studying, even the toilet area was fully occupied.
As soon as Chenxi appeared, she immediately attracted shouts from the neighboring dorm room.
"Wow, Chenxi is out reading too, such a rare guest."
Chenxi placed her stool next to Susu and gave a dry laugh to those classmates. It wasn’t that she wanted to study late into the night, but if she continued to fail, she would be repeating a year. By then, her roommates would have moved on to the third year while she was still stuck in the second year, where would she put her face? What’s more crucial was, she had heard that Professor Luo would be teaching the third year and no longer the second year starting tomorrow.
Chenxi flipped through her book, biting on her pen, and faced with these dense texts, she couldn’t absorb a thing.
Soon, Susu poked her in the side, "Hey, stop sleeping, you’re just squatting here without doing any work, and several people are getting annoyed."
Chenxi suddenly perked up, "What, did Professor Luo just walk by?"
Susu tugged at the corner of her mouth, "You should go back to sleep."
Being lazy resulted in Chenxi scoring the lowest during a small quiz in Professor Luo’s class, and unsurprisingly, she was called into Professor Luo’s office.
