Chapter 576

Chapter 576: Chapter 505 I Will Not Let You Go
Before the movie started, the lights in the cinema were still quite bright. Luo Shangqing had noticed on his way in that the audience was rather young. There were even teenagers sitting in the front row, each holding a bucket of popcorn, munching and chattering away about how cool or explosive the movie was.
He slightly frowned, only to be pulled by Mu Chenxi to sit in the last row: "This movie is too popular, we only managed to get these seats. But it won’t affect our viewing. It’s the first row that’s uncomfortable, their necks will be strained."
Mu Chenxi naturally took the popcorn from Luo Shangqing’s hand and kept feeding herself. After a while, she realized that he was staring at her constantly.
She turned her head, feeling a bit embarrassed, and offered him a kernel of popcorn: "Here, have some."
Luo Shangqing didn’t move but kept looking at her with a profound gaze, making her feel uneasy. Just as she was about to retract her hand, he suddenly leaned in and bit down on the popcorn, his tongue lightly sweeping it away.
She didn’t know if it was intentional, but the soft touch of his tongue on her fingertips felt like a numbing injection, causing her to stiffly pull her hand back.
As Mu Chenxi was blushing, the movie began, and she excitedly immersed herself in the screening.
When the title appeared, Luo Shangqing touched his forehead in disbelief. She had chosen an animated movie titled "One Piece: The Golden City". For someone like Luo Shangqing, who was naturally immune to anime, it was hard to get into the film.
As soon as the main character appeared, the cinema burst into cheers, with Mu Chenxi joining in the excited shouting with everyone else.
It was said that this anime was being screened in mainland China for the first time in fifteen years, so everyone in the cinema was a die-hard fan. Some had been following it for years, others for over a decade. You could imagine their excitement at this moment.
Luo Shangqing shook his head, resigning himself. In his eyes, anime always equated to something for children. So, he chalked up coming to the movies this time to playing with a child.
"Professor Luo, don’t look down on this anime; it has set many records." Mu Chenxi noticed his disdain and explained the character relationships to him in a low voice as she watched.
Although Luo Shangqing had never watched this anime before, as the plot took its twists and turns, he began to feel a surge of enthusiasm, reminiscent of when he was a boy and all the other kids were chasing various cartoons, begging their parents to buy them props from those shows. On his birthday, however, he would always receive proper books or expensive watches. He seemed to have automatically immunized himself against cartoons because he had no time to waste on such childish amusements. Yet he clearly remembered one time when he missed morning exercises due to a stomachache and absent-mindedly picked up his desk mate’s comic book, only to be drawn in by its content that he couldn’t get it off his mind even during the class. He told himself that these things would only distract him from his studies and needed to be strictly avoided, so the very next day, he changed his desk mate.
Unexpectedly, that long-lost feeling from over twenty years ago resurfaced now. Hearing the screams of fans in the cinema and seeing the girl next to him whose attention never left the screen, he felt as if time had rewound. If he had to choose again, he would live his youth more colorfully, just like they say, what’s youth without a little craziness?
Fortunately, his youth was extended through her, making his life worthwhile.
When the movie ended and the lights in the cinema came on, Mu Chenxi excitedly asked, "How was it? Wasn’t it great?"
Gazing into her sparkling eyes, Luo Shangqing suddenly put his arm around her shoulders and lightly teased her nose: "Not bad."
Mu Chenxi knew that Luo Shangqing’s "not bad" meant it was quite good. Getting his approval made her grin from ear to ear, especially since she was worried that bringing him to such a movie might upset him.
There were a lot of people leaving the cinema, and it was quite crowded. Luo Shangqing kept her close to his chest, protecting her with his body.
"Let’s go play some games." Right across from the cinema was an arcade where you could play various games by exchanging tokens.
Luo Shangqing was easy-going, leading her by hand into the arcade. It was noisy inside, and he wrinkled his brow unconsciously. He always liked peace and quiet and never frequented such rowdy places. But seeing Mu Chenxi fluttering around like a butterfly as soon as she entered, he patiently went to buy her some gaming tokens.
"Professor Luo, come on, play this racing game with me."
"Professor Luo, let’s play basketball together."
"Professor Luo, this fighting game is really fun."
At first, Luo Shangqing only wanted to stand by and watch her play. But as she persistently coaxed him, he joined her for a few rounds and unexpectedly found it enjoyable. Finally, he took off his jacket and started shooting hoops with her in his white shirt.
"I want that doll." Mu Chenxi pointed at a doll inside a glass cabinet, "I’m never precise when I try to win these things, often wasting a lot of tokens without catching any."
By now, they only had ten tokens left between them, having played quite fervently.
Luo Shangqing weighed the tokens in his hand, calmly rolled up his sleeves, quickly read the instructions, then inserted the tokens and began to play.
It didn’t start off well because someone next to him kept shouting, "To the left, to the right, then to the left, left again." It really disturbed his concentration.
"Mu Chenxi." He suddenly lowered his face,
Mu Chenxi obediently shut her mouth and covered it gently with her hand, fearing that he would surprise her again with a kiss.
Seeing her cautious demeanor, Luo Shangqing couldn’t help but smile warmly, sighed softly, and turned his head back to continue clawing at the toys.
Eventually, Luo Shangqing used ten game coins to grab four plush toys, one of which was as big as half of Mu Chenxi’s height, and it covered her face when she held it in her arms.
Mu Chenxi received many envious glances along the way and happily discussed with Luo Shangqing, "Shall we go buy ten more yuan’s worth of coins?"
With his skill at claw machines, ten yuan would get them quite a haul, enough to share with their two dorms.
Luo Shangqing flicked her forehead, "You little greedy ghost, do you want to put the owner out of business? Moderation is key."
Mu Chenxi stuck out her tongue, "Professor Luo, men who are both handsome and wealthy are already rare, and those who are also kind are probably close to extinction."
"So for someone like me who is nearly extinct, should you be extra cautious to prevent someone else from running off with me?"
"Definitely, I wish I could turn you into a watch and wear you on my wrist, keeping an eye on you every day." Mu Chenxi blurted out her inner thoughts in excitement, and after saying it, she instantly felt so embarrassed that she wished she could hide. She had written these words in her diary before, never expecting to blurt them out like this. Professor Luo must think she’s hopelessly lovesick.
Sure enough, Luo Shangqing looked at her with a smile that was both teasing and intrigued, and finally tousled her fluffy hair, "Mu Chenxi, you are very prescient."
Holding a bunch of plush toys, the two went to a nearby restaurant for a meal.
While eating dessert, Mu Chenxi’s phone rang. It was the chat from the group of the four divas, so knowing that Luo Shangqing preferred quiet, she quickly set it to silent mode.
After taking a spoonful of cake into her mouth, she suddenly heard the man sitting opposite her ask, "Did you set up the ID on your phone yourself?"
"Yeah," Mu Chenxi replied nibbling on the spoon, "What about it?"
Luo Shangqing passed his phone to her, "Can you try to set up a new ID for me?"
It was only when she opened Luo Shangqing’s phone that Mu Chenxi realized, her idol, this seemingly brilliant man, was actually clueless about technology, despite wielding such a good phone,
"You need an email account." Mu Chenxi said, "What’s your email?"
Luo Shangqing gave her an email address.
Mu Chenxi quickly set up a new ID number for him and said, "There are some very useful tools, should I download them for you?"
"Yeah, go ahead."
After downloading a few apps on his phone, Mu Chenxi handed it back to him. She wanted to ask him why he needed a new ID but suddenly recalled Cheng Lin once saying that she and Luo Shangqing used to share one, and she even synced his contacts. Was that why he wanted a new ID?
Mu Chenxi took another spoonful of cake and looked at the man with a gaze filled with tender satisfaction and pride.
The two went ice skating after eating. Although Mu Chenxi had tried it before, she wasn’t good at it. To her surprise, Luo Shangqing was an excellent ice skater. Under his guidance, she quickly got the hang of it, and the two of them skated hand in hand on the ice, losing track of time in enjoyment.
Luo Shangqing mentioned that he actually hadn’t skated for five years. When he was abroad, he used to go often with friends, but after returning to China, he had been too busy to find the time.
They ate until dinner and only then did Luo Shangqing take Mu Chenxi home.
Mu Chenxi had had a day full of food, fun, and frivolity and felt somewhat tired sitting in the car, yet she didn’t want to close her eyes for a moment. Neon lights from outside slipped across his face, and in the car, a deep female voice repeated over and over, "Say you love me, I really want to hear it,"
