Chapter 520: Chapter 520: Hated for So Many Years, Only to Realize That Person Will Never Appear
Delphine looked at the increasingly heavy rain outside, her delicate and refined face tinged with a trace of pallor, her voice hoarse: "So, he turns into Magnus Leclair for a period every year, is that right?"
Arthur White was somewhat surprised to hear the most secretive name associated with Ignatius Leclair spoken from her lips, and for a moment, he felt reluctant to continue explaining.
"Master Magnus embodies all of Ignatius’s irrationality. The time he appears each year isn’t very long—sometimes a few days, sometimes one or two months. The two coexist peacefully, sharing all resources, only differing in their ways of acting. That’s why very few people over the years have realized Ignatius has a second personality."
Arthur White said lightly, "Miss Delphine, in your second year at the Leclair Residence, Magnus woke up. He fell in love with you and remained active for two years. That was the longest period that Magnus had ever existed."
Arthur White stopped short of saying the words that came next.
Although Delphine had guessed some of it, her face still turned pale at this moment. Her fingers gripped the seat beneath her tightly.
"Then Magnus... why haven’t I seen him all these years?" Her voice was hoarse, her pale lips devoid of blood, her gaze faintly blank.
Upon hearing this, Arthur White’s eyes suddenly darkened.
Back then, Master Magnus deceived Ignatius, silently suppressing the dominant personality for two years. He even intended to wait until Delphine turned eighteen to marry her. Such actions were in severe violation of the dominant personality’s will. Thus, Ignatius abruptly awakened from his dormant state, furious beyond measure.
Ignatius originally wanted to deal with Delphine and eradicate the second personality entirely; however, Magnus had to negotiate with him for Delphine’s sake. He bargained for Miss Delphine’s safety by agreeing to enter permanent dormancy himself.
"Magnus has been gone for six years now. He probably won’t wake up again," Arthur White said with a hint of pity.
Delphine let out a low laugh. So those unforgettable two years were nothing but an illusion all along. The man she loved had ceased to exist long ago. After hating for so many years, she had only just come to realize he would never come back.
"If Ignatius Leclair’s dominant personality had already awakened, then why did he deceive me into returning to the South Seas last year, only to..."
She trembled lightly, a flicker of resentment flashing in her eyes. Why hadn’t he told her the truth? Why hadn’t he remained cruel to the very end? Why had he married her and given her two children?
"Though Ignatius suppressed the second personality, he paid a heavy price for it. He was forced to undergo hypnosis to forget both Magnus and you. His proximity to Miss Delphine was likely an unconscious behavior stemming from Magnus’s influence. However, now that Ignatius has remembered everything, you are but a stranger to him."
Arthur White said softly.
Delphine’s face was ice-cold, her lips sealed, allowing only her trembling fingertips to betray her feelings. Her spine was rigid and upright. Over the past month, Ignatius Leclair had not visited her at the hospital—not even once—and she had begun to suspect something.
The car soon arrived at Emerald Hill Villas.
Delphine followed Arthur White into the living room.
Inside, Mrs. Lee was looking after her son and daughter. The two little ones were gnawing on their fingers as they slept, tiny, adorable bundles of snowy innocence.
Delphine’s eyes immediately reddened as she looked at the two babies, wanting to hold them but fearing she might wake them.
"The little ones are very well-behaved, Miss Delphine. You should hold them," Mrs. Lee said, feeling a twinge of pity seeing how much weight Delphine had lost in a month, while the eldest young master’s attitude toward her had been utterly cold in comparison.
Delphine carefully picked up her son. The little one nuzzled into her arms like a piglet, letting out a couple of soft grunts before continuing to chew on his fingers.
