Chapter 540: Chapter 540: The marital status column reads "divorced
Delphine looked at the refined and fair-skinned young professor in front of her and explained, "Because we’ve just returned to the country, I haven’t found a kindergarten that can take my child yet, so I need to keep him with me. Nicholas is very well-behaved and won’t disrupt the class. Besides, he knows French. I hope the professor can make an exception."
Perhaps because the child had come into her life with such difficulty, Delphine always carried a sense of fear. Whenever she could keep him close, she would try her best to do so.
The two striking figures—one big, one small—stared at him with large, dark, expressive eyes that resembled black grapes, pleading silently. Cassius Turner almost nodded.
The man held himself back from asking, "Where is the child’s father?" A beauty with such delicate features—what man wouldn’t worry if she were raising a child alone?
"You can bring young Nicholas to my classes, but for other courses, I’ll need to coordinate with the respective professors first," Cassius Turner conceded, rubbing his forehead with a smile. "Please wait here for a moment."
The young professor stood up, his height impressive—approximately 185 centimeters—and courteously stepped out to discuss the matter with the other instructors.
Delphine and little Nicholas both sighed in relief at the same time, exchanging glances as they sat on the bench.
"I like this professor uncle," Nicholas expressed his fondness for the professor without hesitation.
Over the years, Delphine never mentioned Nicholas’s father. Although their lives were financially secure, Delphine often fell ill due to her poor health. Young Nicholas, having no particular affection for the so-called father, only hoped to grow up quickly so he could take care of his mother.
However, having a gentle and refined man like the professor as his father wouldn’t be bad either.
Delphine gently ruffled Nicholas’s little head and chuckled softly, "Because the professor uncle lets you attend class with Mommy?"
"Not entirely," the boy replied, his bright smile revealing gleaming white teeth.
When Cassius Turner returned, he saw the mother and son sitting side by side on the office chairs. Their backs were straight, their postures elegant. The frail-looking, young woman was leaning toward the beautiful little boy, speaking in a soft and steady voice that resembled the drizzle of a spring night or the snowflakes of a winter evening. Every word and gesture carried an indescribable grace.
The little boy was equally thoughtful, as though he had received an excellent education from an early age. He listened attentively, like a little gentleman, completely unlike most of the other children Cassius had encountered.
Cassius paused for a moment, realizing how extraordinarily captivating this pair of mother and child was—they were simply breathtaking.
"Miss Carter, I’ve spoken with the other professors. You can bring young Nicholas to class, but even if Nicholas knows French, he is still just a child. University courses aren’t suited for him to sit in on. He’ll benefit more from playing with kids his own age," Cassius said with a smile.
Delphine stood up and expressed her gratitude.
Young Nicholas instinctively stood up alongside her and thanked him as well.
"Here’s your schedule for the semester. I’m Cassius Turner, the head of the French Department. If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact me directly." Cassius unexpectedly offered his personal phone number and added with a smile, "If you run into any challenges in your daily life, you can also reach out."
"Thank you, Professor," Delphine replied with an exceedingly faint smile, which vanished almost instantly.
A flash of awe passed through Cassius’s eyes. After Delphine took the little boy’s hand and left, he discreetly pulled up her information. Delphine Carter, 26 years old, with a background showing her high school education in Southeast Asia—not a native of Imperial City?
Looking at her marital status marked as "divorced," the young professor couldn’t help but smile slightly.
