Chapter 541: Chapter 541: We Agreed to Be Bullies Together, Yet You Secretly Turned Over a New Leaf
"Wilbur, I was wondering, why did you suddenly decide to clean up your act and start teaching at a school?"
Cassius looked at the incoming call from the Demon King Hun of the Howard Family, put away Delphine’s information, and said leisurely, "Family pressure. They said universities are a good place to meet partners."
Yeats Howard nearly spat out his tea. The second young master of the Land Family actually went to a school to find a partner? The socialites of Imperial City might as well throw themselves onto a block of tofu and end it.
Yeats swallowed his tea, let out a sharp "Pfft," and said, "You can fool your parents, but you can’t fool me, buddy. Spill it. Why on earth are you dabbling in the education sector now? Don’t ruin the country’s future pillars, okay?"
Cassius, who hadn’t been a teacher before, smiled faintly. He was in a good mood today, so even toward the Demon King Hun, his tone softened a bit. He asked warmly, "What’s the matter? Why are you calling?"
Yeats and Cassius had grown up together, and during their rebellious teenage years, they’d stirred up plenty of trouble. Back in the day, the Imperial City’s top delinquents were notorious, with Yeats firmly taking the number one spot, followed by Cassius trailing at the rear. Now, while Yeats’s bad reputation lingered, Cassius had shockingly turned over a new leaf and become a teacher. Yeats felt like he’d just been punched in the chest — emotionally wounded.
"It’s about the most lovable old lady in our family. She said Benjamin is starting kindergarten this year, and his birthday party needs to be grand. We’re supposed to invite kids to join the celebration. Didn’t you mention you have a five- or six-year-old nephew? Remember to bring him along to make up the numbers," Yeats said nonchalantly.
Cassius was momentarily speechless. Wasn’t this a matter for his brother and sister-in-law? Why was it landing on him? He had heard plenty about the Howard Family’s doting on their youngest granddaughter. Over the past few years, Yeats’s "golden grandson" status had plummeted. In the Howard Family now, he was practically a blade of grass, utterly overshadowed by the four-year-old Benjamin Leclair.
"Go talk to my brother and sister-in-law about it. I’ve not been home recently," Wilbur replied. He had been avoiding home for some time because of relentless matchmaking efforts, staying in his apartment instead.
"Come on, we’re close, aren’t we? Just bring him along—it’s easy. The old lady gave us an ultimatum: if we don’t get ten kids to celebrate Benjamin’s birthday, we’ll all kneel on the washboard together. Okay, I’m off to schedule the next family," Yeats rushed out before abruptly hanging up.
Cassius sighed. These past few years, the Leclair father-daughter duo had become infamous in Imperial City. Benjamin’s father seemed intent on finding a partner, driving the city’s socialites into a frenzy. Now, even Benjamin’s slight birthday celebration stirred up prominent families to bring their children along as party guests. Cassius couldn’t help but think about the quiet mother-son pair he had seen earlier—freshly returned to the country. The little boy hadn’t even managed to secure a spot at a kindergarten yet and had to attend classes with his mother. It was unexpectedly touching.
Leah had initially planned to return to the country but got detained when news surfaced: someone claimed to have spotted Griffith Squire in Italy.
Upon hearing this, Leah flew to Italy immediately.
In three years, Griffith Squire had vanished entirely without a trace. This was the first lead since then.
Delphine had settled in just fine and had instructed Leah to focus on finding Griffith without rushing back. Searching for three years, Griffith had become the center of their worries. No one dared entertain the worst-case scenario, choosing instead to persevere through the search.
Nicholas Carter’s kindergarten choice remained unresolved. Prestigious kindergartens had insurmountable barriers to entry, while ordinary ones didn’t meet Delphine’s standards. Nothing seemed satisfactory, leaving her stuck in limbo.
When the school term started, Delphine simply took young Nicholas Carter along to attend her classes.
