Chapter 550: Chapter 550: Two little heads huddled together, chirping away like two little larks
Ignatius Leclair turned pale the moment he heard that Benjamin had walked off with a stranger. He gripped his phone tightly, taking care not to alarm the elderly matriarch.
As he left the Howard Family estate, his handsome face turned cold. In a low voice, he said, "Have you checked the surveillance footage? Benjamin wouldn’t just follow a stranger without a reason."
The area around the kindergarten was managed by the Military District; ordinary people couldn’t enter that place easily.
"I looked into the surveillance footage. Benjamin Miss doesn’t appear in any of the recordings. I spoke with the security guards and learned she left with a new classmate who just joined."
Ignatius’ phoenix eyes darkened abruptly. The kindergarten didn’t have extensive surveillance, as families of elite backgrounds valued their privacy greatly. For someone as petite as Benjamin, hiding behind others and avoiding the cameras wouldn’t be difficult considering her clever little mind.
Once he found her, he was definitely going to spank that mischievous little rascal’s bottom. Let’s see if she’d dare make trouble like this again.
He grew so anxious that his temples throbbed painfully, forcing him to take deep breaths to steady himself.
"The kindergarten absolutely refuses to reveal the addresses of students’ families, saying they need approval from higher-ups for verification." Maximilian hurriedly called Ignatius with the update.
Ignatius recalled how Benjamin had been chattering non-stop about her new classmate these past few days. She must have followed him, and with that realization came a bitter mix of helplessness and frustration—the feeling of having spoiled her so much, only to see his cherished little treasure skip along trusting some other family’s little rug rat.
After a chaotic back-and-forth, Ignatius finally obtained the address, furrowing his brows ever so slightly. How could a child living in an old residential courtyard qualify to attend the Land Family’s prestigious kindergarten?
Moreover, this child’s surname was Carter? The restrained, enigmatic man’s gaze momentarily darkened at the sight of the name. That surname was nothing short of cursed.
It couldn’t possibly be her. That timid woman wouldn’t have the nerve to return to the Imperial City, let alone enroll her child in such an elite school. She’d probably changed her surname, erased every trace of herself, and vanished beyond even his reach.
Ignatius paused, his thoughts momentarily dazed. After a long silence, he instructed Maximilian in a low, gravelly voice to head to the location written on the address.
Delphine was overwhelmed seeing Benjamin, her heart thrown into chaos by the young girl’s sobbing. After that, whatever Benjamin said became the reality, and before Delphine knew it, Benjamin was already holding hands with Nicholas Carter, running around playfully in the courtyard.
Delphine grew slightly flustered, regretting how she’d brought the child back without notifying anyone.
"Benjamin, should you give your daddy and mommy a call so they don’t worry?" Delphine bent down, watching as the butterfly-like little girl darted into her arms, unable to resist hugging her back with a tender smile.
Benjamin’s beautiful, jet-black eyes sparkled mischievously. There was no way she’d call her daddy. But outwardly, she sweetly said, "Okay, Delphine Mommy, I’ll call them now."
The clever girl ended up calling her great-grandmother instead and then went off to check out Nicholas Carter’s treasures.
The two little rug rats lay sprawled across Nicholas’ bed, their tiny heads pressed close together, chirping away like two little sparrows.
Watching them, Delphine’s eyes inexplicably grew misty. If both Big Treasure and Little Treasure could be together, it would certainly look like this. The longer she stayed in Imperial City, the more she missed Little Treasure. But she didn’t dare act recklessly. After all, the Howard and Leclair Families had maintained ambiguous stances all this time, and she feared losing Big Treasure as well.
Delphine gently bit her lip. When she impulsively returned to the Imperial City back then, she hadn’t thought it through. Now that she’d settled in a bit, it might finally be time to sneak a meeting with Little Treasure.
