Chapter 599

Chapter 599: Chapter 599: I have known Mr. Li for twelve years and still don’t know what kind of person you are.
The man’s handsome face carried a hint of cold sternness as he looked at the decidedly unlovable woman in front of him. Narrowing his eyes, he said indifferently, "Do you really know Cassius Turner? You’ve only known him for two months, yet you’re acting like you’re giving him your whole heart."
"I’ve known Mr. Leclair for nearly twelve years, and I still don’t know what kind of person he is." Delphine said coolly, the smile at the corner of her lips polite but distant. Twelve years of acquaintance, eight years apart, and in the remaining four, their actual time together was scarce. What’s more, part of it involved dealing with his two personalities. Thinking back on it all, it seemed utterly absurd.
Ignatius Leclair’s expression darkened further after her cutting remarks. Cassius Turner was once as much of a playboy as Yeats Howard, their past exploits just as wild. Now he was masquerading as some kind of upstanding role model, neatly suited and proper. Only someone like Delphine Carter, blind as a bat, would think someone like him was worthwhile.
"Kyla Zamora said you’re about to head to the film studio to shoot a movie. During this time, it’s your choice—will Big Bao and Little Bao come back to the villa with me, or should I move in here?" Ignatius had no desire to tangle with her further over Cassius Turner. He had plenty of ways to deal with the Land Family.
"My father will return from abroad to care for Nicholas in the next couple of days. I’ve also hired a nanny to look after him. Nicholas is very well-behaved, so you don’t need to worry, Mr. Leclair." Delphine rejected him outright.
A dim light flickered in the man’s eyes as he silently calculated his next move. Once she left for filming, he’d have plenty of time to bond with their son.
"It’s getting late. If there’s nothing else, kindly leave—I’d like to rest now." Delphine saw that the night was growing deeper. Alone with two children, she couldn’t help but feel uneasy. Although his personality might be entirely different, he bore the same face. Sometimes, she still couldn’t truly distance herself, couldn’t entirely treat him like a stranger.
Ignatius narrowed his eyes, recognizing her forced composure. Saying nothing, he turned and walked out.
Sitting in the car, the man made a call to Arthur White: "Look into Cassius Turner’s background for me. I want every detail about him—from elementary school all the way to now."
Initially, the man hadn’t cared much about this Land Second Young Master. But lately, Cassius Turner had been the man closest to Delphine, even taking on roles like bringing the children to the playground—roles that should have belonged to their father. This left Ignatius deeply displeased, even jealous.
Ignatius didn’t drive off. Knowing both children were staying with Delphine, and seeing how fragile she seemed—she hadn’t fared much better over the past three years—he couldn’t rest easy. Finally, he turned off the engine and stayed parked outside her small villa, keeping watch.
At dawn the next day, with the sky brightening, the man finally started his car and drove back to his own villa.
Two days later, cloudy skies ushered in Delphine’s peace of mind as her father, Yun Zhi, returned to the country, and she took the crew to a nearby film studio to start shooting a movie. Chloe Winston was cast as the female lead, which was fairly expected. But netizens were shocked to discover the male lead was an inexperienced newbie—a baby-faced man. The online community erupted with speculation: was he a relative of the director?
Seeing the wild guesses online, Delphine couldn’t help but laugh. He really was family. Desmond Wood might lack experience, but his talent was undeniable. Back when he was just a rookie entering society, he had already managed to convincingly play the role of a Gold Medal Lawyer in front of multiple prominent families in Southeast Asia. His skill was so extraordinary that he even managed to fool Delphine. Only upon later acquaintance did she realize he was really just an overly dramatic young man.
