Chapter 124: Chapter 124: You’re Too Bad, I Don’t Want to Play With You
Claire suspiciously looked at her: "Is it really that exaggerated?"
Tina Hayes replied seriously, "Not at all, it’s at the treasure level."
Claire didn’t mute her mic, so her words naturally reached Dylan Skinner, who grinned almost ear to ear. The speed of leveling up increased yet another notch.
"Claire, do you mind if I bring Jenson Jennings in to play together?"
Dylan had just received a message from Jenson saying he wanted to join in.
Even though he really didn’t want this third wheel, Jenson was still his boss, so it wasn’t easy to refuse.
Claire said, "I don’t mind."
However, as soon as Jenson joined the team, he brought someone else in.
When Claire saw Tristan Lockwood’s avatar, she paused for a moment and only greeted Jenson.
Tristan was quiet and hadn’t said a word even in the voice chat. However, Claire didn’t expect Tristan’s gaming skills to be even worse than hers.
He was on a solo lane, continuously dying and feeding, and if it weren’t for Dylan and Jenson, they would have surrendered already.
A random teammate typed: "Stop feeding in mid lane, if you stop, we can win easily."
Tristan didn’t reply.
Yet the game announced he was killed again.
The random teammate became enraged and typed several lines full of curses involving Tristan’s ancestors, and Jenson said on voice chat, "Tristan, don’t mind people like that, just block them."
With the upbringing of Jenson and Tristan, they certainly wouldn’t engage in arguing with others in the game.
But the same random teammate ended up on the opposite team in the next match.
And both he and Tristan were in mid lane.
That guy’s skills were far inferior to Dylan’s, but he was more than enough to handle novice Tristan.
In less than ten minutes, he solo-killed Tristan twice.
And he even taunted on the public chat.
As Tristan was about to foolishly charge a third time, Claire suddenly said, "Wait for me, let’s catch him together."
Her voice was calm, but the others immediately fell silent.
Dylan was in the jungle, and upon hearing Claire’s words, his expression darkened, but he still positioned himself in the brush next to the mid lane.
Claire simultaneously arrived and cast a skill.
The three worked together synchronously, and in the blink of an eye, they had killed the player.
Afterward, Tristan coldly said, "Thanks."
Claire didn’t respond.
There was just some indescribable feeling of suddenly losing interest, so she logged off the game.
Dylan sent her a message on WeChat: [Sorry, I didn’t know Jenson would bring in Dr. Lockwood.]
Claire: [It’s fine, I don’t mind.]
When Tristan saw that Claire had logged off, he also left the team and started another game on his own.
Jenson, next to him, saw his cold expression and his determination not to give up even though he was struggling, said, "Being bad at games is nothing to be ashamed of. We’re almost thirty, definitely not as good as young Dylan. Don’t get worked up over such things."
Tristan didn’t even lift his head and focused directly on his game.
Jenson said leisurely, "But I noticed Claire seems to like Dylan quite a bit."
He paused, specifically watching Tristan’s expression.
Seeing his expression turn colder, he added, "When I heard her talk to Dylan, she seemed completely relaxed and loved to laugh. She wasn’t this happy before."
Tristan paused in his actions, put down his phone, and straightened up, saying, "It won’t last between them."
Jenson glanced at him: "You don’t have the standing to say something like that now."
"Dylan can’t give her anything,"
Tristan calmly said.
"He has no family background, just a worker at The Jennings Group. His current advantage is just being young and smooth-talking. Soon, Claire won’t bother with him."
Jenson furrowed his brow: "The way you say it makes it sound like Claire is just some social climber. She’s not that kind of person."
"How could she not be?" Tristan said indifferently, "When she was with me, she wanted everything. Now that she’s left me, naturally, she needs to find someone else to divert her attention."
Jenson looked him seriously in the eye and asked, "Are you just saying this out of anger or is this how you truly feel?"
Tristan glanced at him nonchalantly and said nothing.
The game screen lit up again, and he lowered his head to continue gaming.
Jenson sighed inwardly and, glancing again at Tristan, was surprised to find he’d already solo-killed the opponent several times.
...
When it came to gaming, Claire actually only occasionally logged in, and most of the time, she duo-queued with Dylan.
Only recently, Dylan had been too busy to play.
One night after work, she logged on alone.
As soon as she entered, she received a team invitation.
Assuming it was from Dylan, she accepted without checking the username.
Once in the team, she discovered it was Tristan Lockwood.
She instinctively wanted to hit exit.
"Just playing a game, are you really that sensitive?" Tristan seemed to guess her intentions and spoke first.
His voice was cold, and the words were just as icy.
Claire couldn’t help but frown and retorted, "You’re too bad at the game; I don’t want to play with you."
Tristan’s breathing grew heavier.
Claire didn’t actually care about her teammates’ skill level. It was just a game, no need to take it seriously. So she said this purely to upset him.
However, before she could react further, they both entered the game.
Tristan’s play was noticeably better than before, and he even chose support to walk the duo lane with her, giving her all the kills and resources.
The game was easily won.
Tristan coolly said, "I just started playing, soon I’ll be better than Dylan."
"You won’t," Claire asserted, "Dylan is so young, his reaction speed is something you can’t match at your age."
She paused and added, "Sometimes people need to face reality."
These words carried a bit of implied meaning.
When Tristan invited her again, Claire pressed decline.
"Is being with me really so uncomfortable for you?"
His words were deliberately ambiguous, leaving the interpretation open to what kind of ’being together’ it referred to.
But Claire still replied with a hum.
Tristan sneered, "Is it because I’m not as fun as Dylan, or not as good at games as he is?"
Claire said, "Neither."
Tristan’s voice became even colder: "Being good at games, of what use is that? This kind of cheap emotional value can attract you?"
Claire didn’t want to continue talking to him and quit the game directly.
As she exited the office building with her bag, from afar, a tall, slender figure waved at her.
It was Dylan Skinner.
Claire was somewhat surprised and jogged over, wind brushing her face, causing her petite nose to redden a bit.
