Too Late to Love Her: When She Divorced, He Fell Apart-Chapter 125: Was It Here He Kissed You That Day?

Chapter 125

Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Was It Here He Kissed You That Day?
She greeted Dylan Skinner with a bright smile, asking, "Don’t you have to work overtime today?"
"I finished my tasks and came over."
Dylan Skinner arched his eyebrows and eyes. His eyes were long and narrow, and he liked to wear white clothes. When he smiles, he truly resembles an adorable little fox.
He reached out his hand towards her.
Claire Hale lowered her eyes, looked at his palm, paused for a while, and then reached out to hold his hand.
She lived nearby, so they walked home, shoulder to shoulder.
"How’s Aunt doing lately?" Claire Hale asked.
Dylan Skinner said, "She’s doing well. She’s been discharged for a long time now, just goes for regular check-ups to confirm nothing has spread."
He paused, remembering something, and said, "Actually, I’m quite grateful to Dr. Lockwood for this matter. Every time I take my mom to check-ups, he’s very dedicated and thorough."
Hearing Tristan Lockwood’s name, Claire Hale’s expression turned slightly indifferent, yet she still said, "He indeed is a good doctor."
When they reached the apartment building downstairs, Claire Hale said goodbye to Dylan Skinner.
As she wanted to withdraw her hand, Dylan Skinner didn’t let go.
He held her tightly.
Claire Hale was slightly stunned, then raised her eyes, looking fixedly at him, waiting for him to speak.
Dylan Skinner pressed his lips together, his expression a bit conflicted, but in his eyes, there was nothing but fondness for her.
Claire Hale said, "If you have nothing to say, I’ll go first."
"Claire, actually I..."
Dylan Skinner’s earlobes turned red, and his gaze on her was full of reluctance.
Claire Hale looked at him and said, "What do you mean?"
They stared at each other for a long time. Suddenly, Dylan Skinner lost his composure, squatted down in frustration, buried his head in his knees, and said, "Why am I so cowardly? I’m so nervous my heart is about to jump out."
He grabbed his hair messily, and his fluffy, disheveled hair made him appear somewhat roguish.
When he stood up again, Dylan Skinner clasped her shoulders and said, "Would you be my girlfriend?"
Claire Hale was stunned.
Actually, she wasn’t unaware of Dylan Skinner’s feelings.
But her feelings for him weren’t as intense. She feared her indifference might hurt him in the future.
However, she couldn’t deny the fact that being with Dylan Skinner made her happy.
She hadn’t been this relaxed and happy in years.
Seeing her not answer immediately, Dylan Skinner actually guessed the answer in his heart. For someone who has loved another deeply, no matter how they part, it’s hard to fall for someone else again.
He smiled self-deprecatingly, saying, "I didn’t really expect you to agree. Claire, I know I’m not worthy of you now. I just hope there’s a place for me beside you, even if it’s just to be an emotional trash can, I’m willing."
"There’s no such thing as being worthy or not," Claire Hale looked at him steadily, "Dylan, for me, matters of the heart only boil down to liking or not liking, and willing or unwilling."
Dylan Skinner’s eyes brightened briefly, then became somewhat complicated again.
The person she liked wasn’t him.
Claire Hale saw through his thoughts and said softly, "I know what you’re thinking, but if I told you I’m willing to be with you..."
She hadn’t finished her sentence when suddenly a sharp gaze shot towards her.
The word "try" lodged in her throat.
Claire Hale instinctively paused and, upon raising her eyes, saw Tristan Lockwood walking towards them.
Dylan Skinner noticed Tristan Lockwood too and slightly turned to shield Claire Hale in front of him, nodding at him as a greeting.
However, Tristan Lockwood didn’t pay him any mind. He just looked at Claire Hale and asked coolly, "You’re going to date him?"
She frowned slightly, coldly replying, "It’s none of your business."
Tristan Lockwood raised an eyebrow with little emotion, looked at Dylan Skinner, and asked, "What can you give her? Money, power, the two things she likes most—you can’t provide."
Claire Hale’s face suddenly turned pale.
Dylan Skinner’s expression wasn’t good either, but he still held her hand tightly, saying, "Dr. Lockwood, Claire is not that kind of person. What she wants is simple, just..."
"Isn’t she?"
Tristan Lockwood interrupted him, casually glancing at Claire Hale.
"Then ask her how many times she slept with me to get her firm."
As soon as he finished speaking, Claire Hale raised her hand and swung at him.
Tristan Lockwood easily caught her wrist and directly pulled her from behind Dylan Skinner to his own side.
Then he took her past Dylan Skinner and into the building.
Dylan Skinner wanted to stop them, but Tristan Lockwood directly ignored him, looking at Claire Hale and saying, "Do you want him to follow?"
In those dark eyes of his, there was ample threat.
Claire Hale knew that letting Dylan Skinner continue to follow would give Tristan Lockwood the chance to humiliate him.
This person was utterly malicious and could say anything that stabbed at her spine.
She turned to Dylan Skinner, gently saying, "Dylan, you should go home first."
"But..."
"Trust me."
Her attitude was resolute, carrying a certainty that couldn’t be questioned.
Dylan Skinner clenched his fists, standing rooted to the spot.
Watching her being taken away by Tristan Lockwood.
Claire Hale was dragged all the way into the house by Tristan Lockwood.
Looking at how he didn’t hesitate to input the correct password at the lock, Claire Hale was shocked, "How do you know my house password?"
"The passwords you use are just these few. After so many years, wouldn’t I know?"
Tristan Lockwood closed the door, looking at her lightly.
But his actions had already become restless.
Claire Hale gritted her teeth, not letting him continue.
"Get out."
Tristan Lockwood ignored her, touching her cheek, his gaze deep, "Did he kiss you here that day?"
Claire Hale turned her face away, dodging his hand, glaring angrily at him, "Why do you always like doing these things, humiliating me in front of others? Does it amuse you?"
"I merely speak the truth."
His expression remained very calm, but his eyes were icy.
"Your ambitions are quite big. Dylan can’t offer you anything. Being with him will only give you momentary novelty and enjoyment. Over time, what you want, he can’t satisfy you with. Wouldn’t it be hurtful to discard him then?"
"My affairs aren’t for you to judge," Claire Hale shook off his hand, her back against the wall, panting lightly, "The happiness Dylan brings me is something you’ll never provide in a lifetime. Moreover, what you think I want is just your presumptuous speculation."
He approached her, raising her chin: "Are you trying to tell me that after separating from me, you’ve transformed, become pure and alone?"
"It’s none of your business."
She pushed him away, nodding towards the door: "If you don’t leave, I’ll call the police."
Tristan Lockwood remained indifferent, saying, "Break up with Dylan."
Claire Hale furrowed her brow: "Who I am with is of no concern to you. What right do you have to dictate my life?"
"Didn’t you say you liked me a few days ago?" Tristan Lockwood looked at her, emotions surging in his eyes, "Saying you liked me, and a few days later, laughing and talking with Dylan? Is your affection that cheap, or is this your old trick of deception?"
