Chapter 49: Zylus’s Consequences...
"Make way!"
"Coming through!"
Two beautiful nurses came rushing in with stretchers, and the teacher helped them carry Fred and Lucas onto the two different carts being pushed.
Zylus turned back as the girls just looked at him, speechless.
"Class Dismissed!" Mr. Cruz yelled, "I’ll now be assigning your rooms!"
Everyone else soon lined up as their teacher’s attention changed. One by one, he assigned everybody a room in the building that stood to the right of the academy.
"What’s your room?" Eldra came crashing in, "Mine’s on the fourth floor, room ninety-three."
Zylus wondered why she would tell him, but then responded, "Floor one room thirty."
"Alright!" Eldra said, "I should probably lead you to it."
Zylus shook his head, "No, I’ll be just fine on my own." He said, beginning to walk over to the building that was three stories high, surrounded in grey stone, with a balcony for each room.
Eldra then walked back to her group of female friends, "Alright!"
After what happened, the class had an early dismissal. Though they were meant to stay for an hour or so longer, they didn’t. But Zylus found it more appealing, because he could finally rest.
He started walking towards the building, the air moving his clothes from left to right, as he put his hands inside his pockets.
"For some reason, being here feels like home." Zylus whispered, "But now’s not the time to continue sulking."
"Hey Zylus," Clare talked into the mic, clearly chewing food, "If you ever feel suspicious about something, make sure to come tell me, or use the teleportation item, you got that?"
"Done." He responded calmly, staring at the building he was about to enter. "Weird, never seen this type of building layout."
Two elevators stood firm on the entrance, one with a clear sign upwards, and the other with a clear sign downwards. Zylus clicked on the arrow that faced above, and that’s when it began to open.
Zylus made sure to look around before entering; he can never be too cautious, but then the doors started opening up.
The elevator was built in pure metal, and when he went inside, mirrors were placed all around him. As he entered, the doors started closing, and two men rushed in there.
"Wait, wait, wait for us!" They screamed, and the doors suddenly began to open once more.
"Damn it," Zylus whispered. He clearly wanted to leave as quickly as possible.
As they entered, he noticed they were the two other guys who associated with Lucas.
Zylus was slightly wary, just in case they would try to do something.
"Oh," the smaller one looked up at Zylus, "You’re pretty strong," he smirked. "But you’re at a loss here in numbers."
The bigger one, slightly taller and more overweight than Zylus, pulled his right arm back, stepping on Zylus’s shoe, as the elevator doors began to close.
"Take this, brat!" He went through with the punch, as Zylus dodged below.
"Come on, are there bullies in every realm?" Zylus wondered out loud.
The smaller one kind of lay back; he knew he was too weak to fight. "Yeah, keep going," he said.
After Zylus dodged, the one who stood almost seven feet tall went for a calf kick with his right leg. Despite his size, he clearly knew how to do Brazilian jujutsu.
Zylus caught his foot just in time, stopping the full-blown force towards him.
"They said getting punched in the balls hurts the most." Zylus smiled, "So let me try that..."
"Owwwwwww!"
With Zylus’s right hand, he knuckle punched the bully’s nuts, causing him to faint.
"Oh shit." The little one panicked, "Come on, that was a test. That’s how friends are, you know that, right?"
Zylus pushed him onto the elevator wall, where it displayed every button for each floor. At this point, the elevator doors were closed, but they weren’t moving at all.
"I learned boxing when I was younger." Zylus whispered, preparing both his fists, "Double knuckle punches!" A stupid yell, which he did for fun.
Bang! Bam!
"Puff." The little one spat out blood as Zylus continued to punch him.
Once in his stomach, once in his face, once in his chest, and he continued. While he threw all these perfectly timed attacks, at one point, during that combo, he managed to click on the number that displayed as ’1.’
A small ding came from the elevator as Zylus arrived on the depicted floor. When the doors opened, a girl stood outside, preparing to go in herself.
Zylus smirkingly walked out, "I found them like this; you should probably go find a medic." He said, walking to the right of the floor’s hallway.
The girl stood in weary, "O-Okay."
The hallway was nicely built, carpet surrounded everywhere, including the walls, but the roof had white paint, and the carpets were a mix of blue and red. While Zylus walked through each section, it kind of went around, continuously, like a loopdiloop.
"Here it is." Zylus finally reached his room as he knocked on the door. "This is what teach told me earlier, should work..."
The door started streaming a blue light towards Zylus’s face, as the satisfying click noise came right after.
"Perfect," Zylus began opening his door, when he realized one thing. "This is almost the same layout as the dorm back in the Demon Realm."
Basically, everything was the same, each piece of furniture was placed almost identically, and the kitchen and washroom were in the same direction.
"Easier for me," Zylus whispered, as he began taking his clothes off, entering his bathroom, "Haven’t showered for days-"
He paused, in the sight of seeing one beautiful thing, he had always hoped to find...
"Finally!" Zylus yelled, "A Jacuzzi!"
He spun the knob around rapidly, crossing his arms on his chest from the cold breeze he received while being naked, then touched the warm water starting to grow and entered.
"Uhh," Zylus whispered, "Finally, a rest."
He closed his eyes, facing upwards into the bathroom’s roof, then Clare interrupted his peaceful rest.
"Hey Zylus..." Clare shakingly whispered into the mic.
"What’s up?" He questioned, curious about the change in Clare’s tone of voice.
"I’m only saying this because Kash promised to tell you the updates about Zenos’s situation." She continued, "It’s about him..."
"What about him? Just spit it out." Zylus demanded.
"Zenos-, no, your friend." Clare paused, breathing into her mic, "He won’t be able to fight..." She took another pause, then spat it out, "Ever again."
...
The water kept running. Zylus stared at the ceiling, unblinking.
Zenos—who laughed every time he bled.
Zenos—who chased pain like it was proof he was alive.
Zenos—who swore he’d never stop moving forward.
Gone. Not dead. Not defeated. Just...
stopped
. Zylus slowly sank deeper into the water until it brushed against his chin. So this is what happens.
Not to enemies.
Not to strangers.
To the people who stood too close to him.
His fingers curled beneath the surface, nails digging into his palms.
"...I see," Zylus finally said.
Clare waited for him to say more. He didn’t. The water grew cold.
And somewhere far away, a boy who loved battle more than life itself would never step onto a battlefield again–
Because Zylus had walked into his world
