Transcending Realms With My Leveling System As A Demon-Chapter 54: Death Must Come

Chapter 54

Chapter 54: Death Must Come
Fred stopped the creature by pummeling his right hand into its mouth.
Bang! Boom!
Then he pushed it away with barely any force, giving the bear a clean body shot using his right hand, then following it up with a direct left jab.
"Still not done, eh?" Fred questioned the creature in front of him that refused to fall, despite clearly losing its balance. "Then, how about this?" He said, stepping forward.
As the beast started to slowly gain back its ground, Fred went in with a low calf kick, knocking one of its four legs down, making it lose balance.
Bam!
Fred cleared his hands, "That should do it-"
And just then, he started to feel extremely nauseous.
"What the fuck...?"
Bang!
Fred fell onto the floor, without any sense of reality left in him. At the very far right side of the forest, Noctis started slowly getting up once more, spitting blood on the ground from the impact of the bear’s head.
"Come on, go treat their wounds," Eldra told him, as she began to assist the brother she despised.
But for some reason, Eldra started to grow attached to him, and this is what Zylus had spoken about, ’Family.’
Zylus slowly walked towards Noctis, but he had already gained a bit of balance; he still needed assistance either way.
"You good, Noctis?" Zylus rushed towards him, "Here, take my hand."
He stuck his hand out as Noctis breathed deeply, "That guy is strong..." Noctis paused, "Fred Foreless, he’s a force to be reckoned with." He said.
Both of them stared at the now unconscious Fred, and it finally caught up to Zylus what Clare had tried to warn him about.
’Don’t grow too attached to these humans.’
As Zylus mindlessly stared at Fred, Zylus threateningly whispered.
"So, I see..."
Noctis began to move forward, "See you there, Zylus."
As the other three regrouped, Fred unconscious, Zylus stayed alone under the large trees. For some reason, their smiles started to feel disturbing.
"I’ll have to watch you," Zylus focused his glare completely on Fred,
"Die."
And just then, he walked up to the three of them, as if nothing had ever happened, and both Noctis and Eldra decided to carry Fred.
Zylus switched spots with Eldra, as a female can’t carry somebody as big as Fred.
"Where are we gonna go now?" Eldra asked, squishing her chest against Zylus’s side, "I’m feeling sleepy."
Noctis looked up into the sky, "Does it stay dark like this all the time? No sunlight?"
"It’s fine, that’s probably part of the challenge," Zylus replied, "For now, let’s find a place to camp and sleep for the everlasting night, then we’ll go gather food whenever morning begins."
"Food?" Eldra asked, "Wait."
They all stared back. The bear was still there, and they realized he would probably be enough to feed them for the entire week.
"Guess we’ll camp here." Noctis joyously said.
...
A while later, they successfully set up a fire, they moved small oak logs to use for seating on the open path, and Noctis was tasked with cutting, cleaning, and cooking the bear, as he stated he’s been a chef for most of his life.
"This will do," Noctis found a treebranch preparing to finally eat for the night.
Eldra sat right across from Zylus, and Fred stayed unconscious, on the floor beside the fire, where he could calmly rest.
"Hey Zylus," Eldra said, "I felt it there."
"What did you feel?" Zylus asked.
"My heart started aching seeing my brother fight in battle," she said, her eyes glowing, "I felt emotion tied to him. I didn’t want him to leave me."
That hurt Zylus quite a lot.
Clare then came back, "Remember, if you must kill one of them, then that must be done."
"I know," Zylus whispered, "But at least let me enjoy the moment while it lasts."
"What was that?" Eldra asked.
Zylus sarcastically smiled towards her, "Nothing!"
Fred had grown too powerful, and Zylus realized that he might be the first one who would have to go, disappear, and that Zylus would watch him die.
"Remember, Zylus," Clare then whispered in the mic, "It’s kill or be killed."
Zylus sighed, "I know."
Noctis finally finished separating all the healthy meat chunks of the bear, "I tasted it already! None of it’s raw!"
Both of them looked at him like he was an idiot, then they giggled.
"Alright, just cook it up so we can eat," Zylus said.
...
"Done! Cooked to medium rare perfection." Noctis said, grabbing the meat that was hanging over the fire attached to a small wooden tree branch.
"Hot! Hot!" His hands burned as he tossed the beautifully charred dinner onto the floor. "Fuck."
...
A bit of time later, they picked it up and then cooked it once more, to remove any lingering bacteria on it before they decided to eat.
...
"Ah," Zylus’s belly let out a rumbling growl, "Ready to feast."
Both Eldra and Noctis laughed plenty after.
"Mmmmm!" Eldra cutely yelled, "This food tastes so good!"
"Of course it does," Noctis confidently added, "I’m a former chef after all."
The food was too good to speak for Zylus, thus he rapidly continued, without a sight of stopping.
...
"Ah, I’m stuffed." Zylus breathed calmly, tapping his belly, "We have so much to last us for a week."
Noctis and Eldra took their last bites.
"Anyways," Zylus seriously stretched himself back, "We’ll have to switch lookouts for the night. Who’s volunteering first?"
Noctis raised his hand, "I’ll go first."
Then Zylus jumped in, "Perfect, I’ll be second."
"Third it is," Eldra accepted her place, "And then Fred can’t, for obvious reasons."
"Yeah," Zylus agreed, "He can only access his power in an extreme state of panic, that’s what it’s looking like."
"Just that," Eldra said, "But the more frantic he feels, the more powerful he becomes."
With that, Zylus and Eldra started to take their seats on the hard ground, nothing to cover them but their clothes, which now they used as pillows, only the jackets, not stripping naked, of course.
Zylus started closing his eyes, "Guess I’ll learn more about how to access my technique later."
...
Time had passed, and Zylus woke up, ready to take his place. But for some reason, Noctis Brava wasn’t there.
"Hey, Eldra." Zylus angrily whispered.
"What is it?" She groggily rubbed her eyes.
"It’s our food..." Zylus paused, looking around, "It’s all gone."
