Chapter 33: Brothers and the Sports Meet
However, when he turned his head and saw Rong Xingyu frightened and pale face beside him Rong Zhenqiao took a deep breath and forced himself to stay strong.
He patted their heads gently. No, he couldn’t fall apart now. The Rong family was like a bleeding piece of meat surrounded by wolves. Every rival company in the city was waiting for the chance to tear them apart.
His brothers needed him. The hundreds of employees of the Rong family business also needed him.
So, Rong Zhenqiao made his decision. He dropped out of school and joined the company and taking the collapsing family empire onto his own shoulders.
When he looking back now, even he couldn’t understand how he had survived those years.
At first, he was too young and naive. In the business world, the old foxes toyed with him like a child. He had to smile through humiliation and forcing politeness through clenched teeth. During endless rounds of social drinking, he pushed himself so far that one night, his stomach started bleeding and he was rushed to the hospital.
Every time he felt like he couldn’t take it anymore, he thought of his younger brothers and endured it again.
Now, years later, the Rong family had finally secured its place in the capital, they even becoming one of the city’s leading business giants.
But while Rong Zhenqiao had poured all his time and energy into the company, he had unknowingly neglected the feelings of the people closest to him.
When he finally looked back, the once gentle obedient younger brother had changed completely.
The boy who used to smile softly at him now met him with sharp edges and cold distance, as if covered in thorns that rejected anyone who tried to get close.
Later, he gained another younger brother, Rong Zhihao.
In his heart, both of them were equally his brothers. But he never expected Xingyu to act out so recklessly toward Zhihao.
His trust in Xingyu was broken over and over again, until all that was left was disappointment.
But recently... something had changed. He didn’t know what Rong Xingyu had gone through, but the boy had started to resemble the gentle little brother from before the accident.
Rong Zhenqiao didn’t dare to hope too much, but somewhere deep down, he still felt quietly happy.
And yet, he was wrong again.
This time, it wasn’t Xingyu’s fault at all.
He had only ever blamed his brother’s attitude and never realizing that his own neglect had caused that distance, that rebellion.
All these years, it had been his mistake.
A sharp pain twisted through his stomach, pulling him out of his thoughts. He let out a bitter laugh and covered his face with one hand.
His voice was hoarse as he whispered, "Xingyu... it was your big brother’s fault."
...
After the monthly exams, the biggest upcoming event in school was the interschool sports competition.
"Anyone else from our class signing up for the track and field events? High jump, long jump, short-distance, long-distance—anything’s fine!"
The class’s PE representative was a girl, she’s not tall, but full of energy, with short hair that gave her a neat, confident look.
She had been walking around the classroom for quite a while, waving the sign-up sheet and calling out enthusiastically.
But...
"Do we have golf? I’m pretty good at that."
The PE rep scratched her head. "Uh... no, not really."
"Then... horseback riding?"
She threw her head back and groaned dramatically. "This is a school sports competition, not the Olympics! What would you even do, ride a horse for hurdles or high jump?!"
It was the same as last year all over again!
The rich kids at Qibao Dwith School only wanted to play "noble" sports like golf—something where they could just move their arms a little and still look elegant. When it came to track and field, they either said it was too dirty or too tiring. No one wanted to sign up at all!
Even when a few people did join, they never managed to get any good results.
So, even though the interschool sports competition was held at Qibao Dwith School every single year, Qibao Dwith School still got mocked by other schools for being "physically lazy."
At this point, they had already given up resisting and they just accepted the ridicule with a helpless attitude.
The class PE representative, Yue Yeqiao, sighed heavily and lowered her head in defeat. She was about to pack away the registration forms.
But just then, a pale and slender hand reached out in front of her and gently pulled out one of the sign up sheets.
Yue Yeqiao looked up in surprise and she almost burst into tears of joy when she saw Rong Xingyu smiling softly at her.
"I’ll join," he said simply.
Yue Yeqiao nearly cried on the spot. Oh my god! Mom, I just saw an angel!
Recently, thanks to Rong Xingyu’s regular exercise, his physical strength had improved a lot. Signing up for a few track and field events shouldn’t be a problem for him.
While he was reading through the registration form carefully, several classmates started gathering around him, curious and excited. Before long, they had unconsciously formed a circle around him, all eyes focused on him as if he were the center of attention.
After thinking carefully about his stamina and the event schedule, Rong Xingyu picked up the pen and checked off the boxes for the 50 meter sprint, the 200 meter dash, and even the exhausting 3000 meter long-distance run.
Yue Yeqiao almost fainted from happiness. This was too sudden. She wasn’t emotionally prepared for this level of joy!
Her hands were trembling so hard that she could barely hold the form. "Rong Xingyu, are you sure you want to join all three events? The 3000 meter run is really tiring..."
Rong Xingyu nodded calmly. But before he could say anything, Rong Zhihao who was sitting nearby frowned slightly. His tone carried obvious worry.
