Chapter 34: Run, Rong Xingyu!
"If you’re just trying to show off, you don’t need to sign up for so many events," he said. "What if you don’t do well and end up embarrassing our class or Qibao Dwith School’s name?"
Yue Yeqiao: "..."
Other classmates: "..."
Rong Xingyu blinked his eyes and replied seriously, "Thank you for your concern. I’ll be careful. I’ll do my best, please let me try it."
"But..." Rong Zhihao started to say more, but when he noticed the strange looks the others were giving him, his words trailed off.
Someone muttered, "Then why don’t you run instead?"
Rong Zhihao froze. "I... can’t."
Yue Yeqiao rolled her eyes secretly. Then shut up, will you?
How had she never noticed before that their class monitor Rong Zhihao had such an irritating tone sometimes?
"Rong Xingyu, we believe in you!"
"Even if you don’t win, you’re still the best!"
"Yeah! It’s not like Qibao Dwith School’s got any pride left to lose anyway, just run your heart out!"
"...You guys could’ve phrased that a little better."
Rong Xingyu looked around at all the smiling faces of his classmates and felt a deep warmth spread through his chest.
"Thank you, everyone," he said, his eyes soft with gratitude. "I’ll do my best!"
Although Rong Xingyu said those words very seriously, in the eyes of his classmates, it only made him seem even kinder, he wasn’t just volunteering to participate, he was still trying to comfort them afterward.
Ahhh, he’s so nice!
If someone in the classroom had supernatural powers, they would probably see glowing words popping up above everyone’s heads: "Affection +1," "Affection +2," "Affection +3" endlessly stacking higher.
A few days later, the long awaited interschool sports competition led by Qibao Dwith School and joined by nineteen schools from the western district officially began.
The annual event was huge, lasting for an entire week.
Since Qibao Dwith School was rich and powerful, it had the largest sports stadium in all of school.
Every year, this event didn’t just bring in athletes from other schools, it also attracted students, parents, and people from various circles who came to watch.
The campus would be packed with noise and energy.
When Rong Zhenqiao found out that his younger brother was competing that afternoon, he canceled all his meetings and headed straight to Qibao Dwith School.
The Rong family also held a sizable share in Qibao Dwith School, but Rong Zhenqiao politely declined the staff’s eager attempts to escort him to the VIP section.
He had dressed very simply today, he just wear casual clothes and a baseball cap while hiding part of the face that had appeared on the covers of several financial magazines.
To anyone else, he looked like an ordinary parent coming to cheer for his child.
The stadium was enormous. After walking for quite some time, Rong Zhenqiao finally found Rong Xingyu warming up near the 200 meter track.
Rong Xingyu was wearing a pure white tracksuit with short sleeves and shorts that revealed his pale slender arms and legs from the sun.
His body was lean and proportionate and even when he bent over to stretch or raised his arms to warm up, every movement looked effortlessly graceful.
People passing by couldn’t help glancing his way whether they knew him or not. His face and presence drew attention like a magnet.
Rong Zhenqiao’s expression darkened slightly.
"...What are they all staring at..."
He doesn’t like it.
On the track, Rong Xingyu was doing leg stretches when he suddenly noticed a familiar face in the distance.
His eyes lit up instantly.
Dr. Ding!
Ever since the embarrassing scene in the infirmary the other day, he hadn’t seen Dr. Ding again.
Today, the man was still wearing his white coat and standing a little apart from the crowd. He seemed to be assigned to supervise the athletes’ health and safety during the event.
But Rong Xingyu could clearly feel that Dr. Ding was also watching him.
He smiled brightly and waved his hand enthusiastically.
Dr. Ding’s gaze followed the motion and his eyes darkened slightly when he saw the young man’s shirt lift, revealing a slim pale waist.
That waist looked even fairer than his clothes and narrow enough that it seemed one hand could wrap around it completely.
Dr. Ding’s jaw tightened; he ground his molars slightly before looking away.
When he finally turned to the older school doctor beside him, his expression was calm again, professional as ever. "I’ll go watch the competition for a while. I’ll leave things here to you."
The older doctor waved dismissively and chuckled. "Go on, go on. You young people love excitement anyway."
And then under the gaze of hundreds of students and teachers.
BANG!
The starting gun fired and Rong Xingyu shot forward like a streak of lightning.
Rong Xingyu started the race strongz sprinting near the front of the group and keeping a tight distance between himself and the leading runners.
The track was surrounded by Qibao Dwith School students and when they saw the school emblem on his chest, excitement spread like wildfire. They rushed to the sidelines and cheering at the top of their lungs.
"Ahhh! Go, Qibao Dwith School!"
"Rong Xingyu! Go! You can do it!"
"Come on! Come on! Run!!"
Only fifty meters left!
Suddenly, Rong Xingyu began to speed up. His legs moved faster and faster as he passed one runner after another.
The crowd cupped their hands around their mouths and screamed even louder.
"Ahhhhh! Go! Go!"
In the stands, Rong Zhenqiao’s fists were clenched tight, his pulse racing as he silently rooted for his younger brother.
Rong Xingyu ran faster and faster, closing in on the runner ahead of him, just one person left!
The Qibao Dwith School students all held their breath, their eyes glued to him.
Closer... closer... Then, in one final burst of energy, Rong Xingyu surged forward and passed the last runner.
He crossed the finish line... half a step ahead!
"AHHHH! We won! We won!!"
"Holy crap! He did it!!"
"Rong Xingyu is number one!!!"
