Chapter 54

Chapter 54: Brothers at the School Anniversary
The girl sitting in front of Rong Zhihao was clearly a real fan of his second brother, she was still asking questions about her idol nonstop.
Rong Zhihao gave vague answers, he clearly feeling annoyed. He had only recently been brought back to the Rong family and had barely met his second brother a few times. How was he supposed to know anything about him?
Even though he was getting impatient, when he caught sight of Rong Xingyu sitting not far away with that slightly awkward uneasy expression on his face his irritation suddenly vanished.
He even felt a sense of satisfaction and his tone toward the girl became noticeably softer.
Later, during break time, Rong Zhihao searched the campus for quite a while before finally spotting someone near a bulletin board.
It was a man wearing sunglasses in broad daylight and It was his fourth brother Rong Zishan.
"Fourth Brother, you came for the school anniversary too?" Rong Zhihao asked with a polite smile.
Rong Zishan jumped at the sudden voice. He looked around quickly and scanning the area with visible caution as if searching for someone familiar.
Still wearing his sunglasses, he lowered his voice and asked, "Where’s Xiaoyu? He didn’t see me, did he?"
Rong Zhihao froze.
His smile stiffened, but he managed to keep his tone calm and obedient as he replied, "No, he didn’t see you."
Only then did Rong Zishan relax a little.
He still didn’t take off his sunglasses but he looked at Rong Zhihao through the dark lenses.
"You’re... uh, Rong..." He frowned clearly struggling to remember.
Rong Zhihao clenched his jaw and said through gritted teeth, "Rong Zhihao."
"Oh right, right! Rong Zhihao!" Rong Zishan laughed, slapping him hard on the shoulder. "Good! Listen, I’m planning to give Xiaoyu a surprise later, so don’t tell him I’m here, okay?"
Rong Zhihao stood frozen as he watched Rong Zishan walk away, his hands trembling with anger.
Xiaoyu?
He was the fifth child of the Rong family, their real younger brother. And Rong Xingyu, that boy who didn’t even know who his real parents were, what right did he have to be called Xiaoyu?
Fury burned in his chest, but his face remained calm and composed.
He took out his phone, scrolled for a moment and dialed a number.
The call connected and before the person on the other end could even speak, Rong Zhihao said coldly, "You used to be close with Rong Xingyu, right? I need to ask you something about him."
Rong Zishan almost tripped in the dimly lit auditorium, the darkness making it hard to see anything.
Wearing his large black sunglasses didn’t help either.
After fumbling his way through the aisles, he finally found a seat and dropped into the chair beside Rong Zhenqiao.
Rong Zhenqiao glanced at him, his expression full of disgust as he looked at the oversized sunglasses covering half his brother’s face. "Go sit somewhere else. Don’t sit next to me."
"This is the VIP section," Rong Zishan said firmly while adjusting his seat to stretch his long legs comfortably. "I have to sit in the best spot to watch my Xiaoyu’s performance."
Rong Zhenqiao pressed his fingers against his temple and silently counting to three to keep from losing his patience.
If this spot wasn’t the best view in the hall, he would’ve already switched seats just to get away from this annoying brother.
This location was close to the stage but still far enough to take in everything clearly from a perfect angle.
When the show started, Rong Xingyu wouldn’t be able to see the audience from the bright stage lights, but from here, Rong Zhenqiao could watch every movement of his younger brother with ease.
Just then, his gaze shifted slightly and landed on the person sitting diagonally in front of him.
That familiar back profile...
"Mr. Ding?" he called out.
Ding Yixin turned at the sound of his name. When he saw that it was Rong Zhenqiao, he nodded his head politely. "President Rong."
"Mr. Ding, are you also here to watch your nephew’s performance?"
Ding Yixin smiled and shook his head. "No, my nephew has never had much talent in these areas. What about you, President Rong?"
Rong Zhenqiao had clearly been waiting for that question. His expression softened as he replied, "Yes, my younger brother has a performance tonight, it’s a stage play. He’s the lead actor."
A hint of genuine surprise crossed Ding Yixin’s face.
"Really? Your younger brother must be very talented. Now I’m truly looking forward to watching the show."
For the first time, Rong Zhenqiao gave Ding Yixin a sincere smile instead of his usual polite one. "You flatter him, Mr. Ding. He’s still young and has a lot of room to grow."
Meanwhile, Rong Zishan who had been flipping through the program booklet, finally found Rong Xingyu’s name and then he let out a confused sound.
"Huh? Xiaoyu’s class is doing The Little Mermaid? Don’t tell me he’s playing that prince who acts like a total jerk?"
Rong Zhenqiao froze.
He also wasn’t particularly fond of that prince’s actions in the story. But the thought of Rong Xingyu playing the role made his expression tighten, his tone suddenly serious.
"Don’t talk nonsense. In Andersen’s original version, the prince didn’t know he had mistaken someone else for the mermaid. He wasn’t even aware of her feelings for him. From beginning to end, he genuinely loved the princess from the neighboring kingdom. You can’t call that being a jerk."
"Really?" Rong Zishan scratched his head.
It had been so many years since he’d last heard the story and he was never the type to listen to fairy tales anyway.
He honestly couldn’t remember what The Little Mermaid was even about.
But that didn’t matter.
The only thing that did was watching Xiaoyu perform!
Rong Xingyu’s class performance was scheduled near the end.
By the time their turn finally came, Rong Zishan was already half asleep from sitting through the endless string of acts before them.
