Chapter 60: An Unexpected Guest
Ding Yixin even turned to the slightly nervous Rong Xingyu and gave him a gentle and reassuring smile.
When Ding Yixin’s teacup was nearly empty, Rong Xingyu instinctively reached for the teapot to pour him more.
However, before he could, Rong Zishan’s sharp voice cut through the air.
"Xiaoyu, stop right there!"
Rong Xingyu froze, his hand hovering awkwardly in midair.
He touched the tip of his nose feeling embarrassed and quietly sat back down.
Rong Zishan crossed his arms, his face dark as thunder and snapped, "Doesn’t he have hands of his own? Why do you need to pour his tea?"
Rong Xingyu: "..."
This house suddenly felt so dangerous.
Someone, please come save him!
As for why this awkward situation had happened in the first place, it all started about half an hour earlier.
After being inspired by Qian Zhijun’s suggestion, Rong Xingyu had decided to invite Dr. Ding over for a homemade meal as a thank you gift.
He had racked his brains to come up with a proper excuse for the invitation, but to his surprise, Dr. Ding accepted it immediately, he even seemed pleased by it.
And so, they set the time for the weekend which just happened to be today.
"Ding-dong—"
Hearing the sound of the doorbell, Rong Xingyu came out from the kitchen.
He was wearing a simple yet comfortable set of home clothes, with a cute checkered apron tied around his waist. In his hands was a tray of freshly baked cookies that was still warm from the oven.
"I’m coming! Please wait just a moment~" he called out cheerfully.
Rong Xingyu placed the cookies on the table, took off his oven gloves, and jogged lightly toward the door.
The air was filled with the sweet buttery scent of freshly baked cookies.
Even Rong Xingyu himself seemed to carry that same gentle sweetness with him as though the very air around him turned softer and warmer when he passed.
When he opened the door, it was exactly who he expected.
Dr. Ding was standing there in the hallway with a small bouquet of flowers in his hands.
Although Dr. Ding wasn’t wearing his usual formal three piece suit today, the way he stood there while holding the flowers and smiling at him still gave off the feeling of someone coming to an important dinner.
Rong Xingyu felt a pleasant surprise bloom in his chest as he took the bouquet from him.
It was a bunch of pure white lisianthus.
He quickly stepped aside to let Dr. Ding in while hugging the flowers close as he watched him change his shoes at the entryway.
Next to Rong Xingyu’s casual sneakers, Dr. Ding’s handmade leather shoes looked elegant and refined. The two very different pairs lined up neatly side by side.
Without realizing it, Rong Xingyu’s fingers tightened slightly around the wrapping paper of the bouquet.
"Dr. Ding, please sit for a bit. I’ll pour you some tea right away."
Dr. Ding sat down on the sofa and giving him a gentle smile. "Alright."
Rong Xingyu brought over the plate of cookies, then made him a cup of tea.
After that, he searched for a vase and carefully arranged the white lisianthus inside while adding a little bit of water to keep the petals fresh.
Watching Rong Xingyu move busily around like a small, diligent bee, Dr. Ding’s eyes softened even more with quiet amusement.
He cleared his throat lightly and said, "Yuyu, you don’t need to keep running around. Come sit and rest for a while."
Rong Xingyu obediently replied, "Okay."
He wasn’t sure why, but sitting there alone with Dr. Ding made his heart feel oddly tense.
When they were together before, like in that private room at Longfor Mansion, it had also been just the two of them. But back then, he’d been too focused on eating and enjoying the food to feel nervous.
Now, however, the atmosphere felt completely different.
Rong Xingyu walked over and sat down on the sofa while clutching a cushion in his arms and squeezing it a few times.
But after less than five minutes, he suddenly stood up again.
"There’s soup still simmering in the kitchen, I should go and check if it’s ready!"
Dr. Ding chuckled softly and shook his head as he watched Rong Xingyu quickly run away like he was fleeing a battlefield.
A helpless and tender smile curved his lips.
At that moment, no one expected that just as Rong Xingyu stepped into the kitchen, the sound of someone entering a passcode suddenly came from the front door.
Ding Yixin raised an eyebrow slightly.
He lifted his teacup, blew on the steam, and took a calm unhurried sip.
A faint glimmer of amusement flashed in his eyes.
He turned his gaze toward the door and adjusted his sitting posture, clearly curious to see what would happen next.
Soon, the door opened from the outside.
A tall and long legged young man walked in while humming a tune and swinging his car keys casually in his hand.
"Mmm, something smells good. Xiaoyu must be cooking again, wait, what the hell, who are you?!"
Rong Zishan glanced around and confirming that this was indeed his home.
Then his expression instantly darkened when his eyes landed on Ding Yixin who was calmly sitting on the sofa and drinking tea like he owned the place.
"Who the hell are you?! Where’s Xiaoyu? What did you do to him?!"
"Fourth brother? Why are you back so suddenly?"
Hearing the commotion, Rong Xingyu poked his head out from the kitchen.
Seeing his fourth brother standing in the living room glaring at Dr. Ding, he froze for a second.
Wasn’t his brother supposed to be out all day?
And that was how, thirty minutes later, all three of them ended up sitting side by side on the sofa.
Even though Rong Xingyu had already explained everything clearly and introduced the two to each other, Rong Zishan’s expression remained dark and unpleasant.
