Chapter 72

Chapter 72: Snow at Midnight
He had no idea what the original Rong Xingyu had done to make the relationship between them so distant.
He let out a sigh.
Since he did not know, he could only take one step at a time.
This birthday, which was destined to be unusual and would stay in Rong Xingyu’s memory forever, finally came to an end... or did it?
He did not stay at the Rong house.
After returning, he took a shower, dried his hair, and sat on his bed.
At that moment, someone knocked on the door, followed by Rong Zishan’s voice.
"Xiaoyu? You’re still awake, right?"
Rong Xingyu: "..."
He suddenly wanted to pretend he was asleep and stay quiet.
"Don’t hide inside without making a sound. I know you’re not sleeping!"
Rong Xingyu had no choice. He got up from the bed, dragged his slippers across the floor and went to open the door.
The moment he opened it, he saw Rong Zishan leaning against the door frame while standing there in a very cool pose.
"Fourth Brother, what is it?" Rong Xingyu rubbed his eyes in confusion.
Rong Zishan reached out his hands to turned him around and pushed him back into the room as he spoke excitedly, "It’s snowing outside! Hurry, hurry, put on a coat. Fourth Brother will take you to see the snow!"
Rong Xingyu: "???"
Hadn’t it already snowed several times since winter started?
And this was the northern capital city, not the small southern town he lived in during his last life. Snow was very normal here.
But seeing Rong Zishan so excited, Rong Xingyu’s mood was lifted too.
He was wearing soft and fluffy pajamas at home. He had just showered and his fair face looked clean and bright.
Under the warm light, he looked delicate and pretty, almost like a doll.
Rong Xingyu put on a big down jacket over his pajamas.
Just as he lowered his head to pull up the zipper, Rong Zishan somehow pulled out a pair of earmuffs as if performing magic and put them on him.
Rong Xingyu tilted his head in confusion at the fluffy rabbit shaped earmuffs.
Being stared at like that, Rong Zishan cleared his throat and urged, "Are you ready? Let’s go, let’s go."
The two of them walked out into the yard.
Rong Xingyu lifted his head to look at the sky and couldn’t help letting out a surprised "Wow. The snow is so heavy."
It had only been snowing for a short while, but it already formed a thin layer on the ground.
The falling snowflakes looked like feathers floating softly in the air.
Rong Xingyu happily reached out his hands to catch the snowflakes drifting down.
The snow melted quickly in his warm palms, turning into tiny drops of water.
The feeling was so strange and wonderful that Rong Xingyu couldn’t help but smile.
Rong Zishan stood beside him with his arms crossed, quietly watching him enjoy himself.
"So? Fourth Brother knows you best, right? I just knew you liked watching snow."
Rong Xingyu nodded.
In his last life, he had been born in a very small town in the south, but later his whole family moved north because of work.
Winters there were very cold and it snowed a lot.
Even though the snow made life difficult for him when he worked outside at a street stall, the colder the weather got, the better his business became.
And Rong Xingyu truly did like snowy days.
"I still remember the day you were born. It also snowed very heavily," Rong Zishan said as he folded his arms and lifted his head to look at the sky with him. His voice sounded a little nostalgic. "It felt like it was even heavier than today."
Rong Xingyu blinked his eyes. Fourth Brother was talking about the original Rong Xingyu, right?
The original Rong Xingyu had been born on a snowy day too?
How could it be such a coincidence? Not only did he and the original Rong Xingyu have the same birthday, but both days had a heavy snowfall.
Rong Xingyu remembered his own birthday so clearly because of that heavy snow on Christmas Eve.
Wait...
Rong Xingyu suddenly froze.
He was born in a warm southern town where it felt like spring all year round.
The winter temperatures never even went below zero.
How could there have been snow???
And back then he was only a baby.
How could he have known it snowed? How could he have believed it so firmly all these years?
Cold sweat slowly spread across Rong Xingyu’s back. He felt like a thick fog was right in front of him.
And he was slowly getting closer to the truth hidden behind that fog.
Rong Xingyu had a scary feeling. Maybe when the truth finally came out, it would not be something easy to accept...
He turned over on the bed and lay on his side.
His mind was a mess.
The sleepiness he finally managed to gather after coming back from the yard disappeared in an instant.
He suddenly wanted to talk to someone.
For some reason, the first person who appeared in his mind was Dr. Rong.
Rong Xingyu reached out toward the phone on his bedside table, but his hand stopped in midair.
He pressed his lips together, then finally grabbed the phone and held it in his hand.
Rong Xingyu held the phone against his chest and lay back on the bed.
His thoughts became even more tangled, like a ball of yarn knotted tightly together.
Dr. Rong... no, he wasn’t a doctor at all.
How could the villain from the original book be working in a school as the school doctor?
Because of his own assumptions and maybe because he didn’t want to doubt Ding Yixin, Rong Xingyu had been like someone trapped inside a story, ignoring all the obvious clues on him.
Only now, after stepping back, did Rong Xingyu realize how simple and naive he had been before.
