Chapter 73: Snowfall Confession
The post on the school forum... the principal bowing respectfully and calling him "Chairman Ding"... all of it showed he could never be just a simple school doctor.
"But why... why did he lie to me?" Rong Xingyu whispered to himself.
His hand tightened around his phone without him noticing, his fingers turning pale from the force.
Earlier at the banquet, the villain he had always wanted to avoid suddenly turned out to be the same person as the school doctor he trusted so much.
Rong Xingyu couldn’t accept it for a moment, so his emotions had exploded.
Now that he had calmed down, Rong Xingyu finally realized that what truly made him sad wasn’t the fact that Ding Yixin was actually the mysterious villain from the book.
What hurt him was that Ding Yixin had been hiding something from him from the very beginning.
Rong Xingyu let out a bitter laugh at himself. He had thought he and Dr. Rong were friends. It seemed he had been thinking too much.
Maybe Ding Yixin had just thought he was stupid and had been playing with him on purpose.
The more Rong Xingyu thought about it, the angrier he became. The more he thought about it, the clearer his head became. He threw his phone aside and suddenly got up from the bed.
With a loud swoosh, Rong Xingyu pulled open the curtains by the window and pushed the window open.
The cold air immediately rushed in from outside, making Rong Xingyu shiver.
The snow outside not only hadn’t stopped, it was falling even harder.
The drifting snowflakes looked as if they were purifying the whole world, turning everything familiar into a silver white scene.
Rong Xingyu stood there for a few minutes, staring dazedly at the falling snow.
Just when he sighed and was about to close the window, Rong Xingyu suddenly saw a familiar figure standing outside the railings of the yard, under the streetlight.
It looked like he had already been standing there for a long time.
A thin layer of snow had already fallen on his body.
Rong Xingyu’s eyes widened. Before his mind could react, his body had already acted on its own.
He yanked the curtain shut and turned his back.
...Damn it, why did it look like he just saw Dr. Rong? He must be seeing things.
Rong Xingyu turned back again and secretly opened a small gap in the curtain. He tried to hide behind it and quietly peeked outside.
In the snow, Ding Yixin stood straight and tall.
There was nothing covering him.
The snow that fell onto his black coat looked like silver embroidery, making him appear even more noble.
Ding Yixin looked in his direction from afar.
Even though it was impossible to see clearly under the dim lights, Rong Xingyu still felt like the man’s eyes had caught him.
Rong Xingyu bit his lower lip. Choosing "dignity over warmth," standing in the snow wearing only a coat, without even holding an umbrella, was he not afraid of catching a serious cold?
He complained in his heart, then angrily pulled the curtain shut again and fell back onto his bed.
"If he catches a cold, then he catches a cold... what does that have to do with me..." Rong Xingyu muttered while covering his ears. "He’s the great villain of the story, right? As if he would catch a cold. Hmph..."
Rong Xingyu suddenly sat up and grabbed his phone.
He was now very familiar with all of WeChat’s functions.
He pulled a contact marked as "Big Liar" out of his blacklist.
His fingers flew quickly across the screen and he typed a lot of words in the chat box, but before sending them, he deleted every single one in one go.
Rong Xingyu stomped his foot in frustration, he then grabbed his down jacket and walked straight outside.
He quietly slipped down the stairs, pushed open the front door and quickly stopped in front of Ding Yixin after he crossing the small yard.
"Mr. Ding... Mr. Ding, it’s so late. Why are you standing outside my house?"
The moment he stopped walking, he spoke without holding back.
There was a bit of anger in his voice and he looked like a little fluffy cat with all its fur standing up, ready to scratch someone.
Ding Yixin didn’t answer. He just stared deeply at Rong Xingyu.
He then bent down halfway and first zipped up Rong Xingyu’s down jacket.
Only then did Rong Xingyu realize he had rushed out too quickly.
Not only had he not worn his jacket properly, he hadn’t even changed his shoes, he was still wearing fuzzy slippers.
After fixing the jacket, Ding Yixin then took off his own scarf and carefully wrapped it around Rong Xingyu’s neck.
His hands were clearly freezing from standing outside too long.
When his cold fingers brushed against Rong Xingyu’s skin, goosebumps instantly rose on that spot and Rong Xingyu couldn’t help shaking a little.
Rong Xingyu: "..."
Why were his hands so cold?
The scarf was still warm from Ding Yixin’s body heat.
Rong Xingyu bit his lip and asked in a slightly dull voice, "Mr. Ding, what do you mean by doing this?"
Ding Yixin let out a bitter smile.
Maybe he had been outside for too long, because even his voice sounded a little hoarse.
He said, "Yuyu, I couldn’t reach you. I had no choice but to come find you."
The person who had very decisively blocked him earlier suddenly feeling a little guilty.
"Yuyu, I only want a chance to explain."
A snowflake fell onto Rong Xingyu’s long eyelashes and melted into a tiny drop of water.
It felt a bit uncomfortable, so he blinked his eyes.
Then he saw Ding Yixin lift his hand.
His wide palm rested gently on top of Rong Xingyu’s head, blocking the falling snow.
Rong Xingyu lowered his head and stared at his fuzzy slippers. "...Fine, then explain."
After all, he had the whole story in his hands.
