Chapter 373: Took A While, Was In Denial When I First Heard
[KOSTA]
Madness.
Pure unfiltered madness
And right in the middle of it, was the prettiest omega in the realm, covered in armor and shit that would make everyone lose their minds. This wasn’t the easiest of things for Kosta, and Sanji could see through him so easily.
This was a decision that had been forged in pain, one that had made the mask himself a lot of things along the way. This was a decision so crazy, but one that even the traitor of Kawai understood a little too well.
After all, loneliness was never going to just disappear just because the sun was a tad too bright or because the skies had decided to stay blue and welcoming, right?
"Court me, Sanjiro. I am a free omega now, am I not?" Kosta said, his words so clear and dangerous at the same time. It was almost like a threat, but a part of Sanji could see that this was just a desperate omega who wanted to be held, to be loved, to be adored.
It hurt to know that after all was done and dusted, Igor Kostantin would still be the loneliest omega in Kawai, and boy, did it hurt.
This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
Humanity was always fucked up and shit, but Tamiko had to change his mind, it was the only way. Because if Igor spiraled, then there wouldn’t be a bond to fight for.
Over the years, Sanji had tried to think of a reason why the man should let go of his omega just like that. It made no sense and regardless of what was demanded by the customs, the skies had never been prettier since then.
It was always dull, and the realm ached silently, unable to figure out the reason for the sadness. But those who had been there knew. They understood that at times they had to stop changing the emotional and embrace that which was meant for them.
They had to accept that at the end of the day, life had changed. That life was linked to the Hinata house. That the realm was hanging on a really thin balance that was sitting in the worst of ways. It was cruel, but it was what they had had to deal with.
"Igor..." Sanji trailed off.
This was the worst possible idea. This was not something anyone would willingly step into, and it was one Sanji knew that if he said no, then the man would find someone else.
Someone who would give him what he wanted.
Someone wouldn’t just take the omega and discard it.
But wasn’t that what Sanji had been intending from the very beginning?
Wasn’t that fate sealed from the trial of Kawai?
This right here was his chance to use Igor to go after Tamiko, however crazy it seemed, and however far-fetched it all was. There was no sign that this was a cur game. But then they had to play. Someone had to play and Igor knew what the risks were.
"He will kill you for courting me, and he will kill me for betraying him. That is better, Sanji. It is better than this emptiness, this void that had been haunting me for the past ten years. I don’t know how to live a life without him.
"I don’t know how to exist without him, Sanji. I can’t think. I can’t breathe. I can’t keep living like this because I fell for the person who turned his back on me. Please," Kosta begged, and it was then that Sanji understood just how far this pain went.
Igor Konstantin never begged. He was a proud man who got what he wanted and how he wanted it. Igor Kostantin was the devil reincarnate. He was the most powerful Lycan Chief to ever exist, and standing in front of Sanjiro wasn’t Igor Konstantin, no.
He was an omega.
Just an omega who wanted affection.
An omega tricked into coming out of his shell, into the warmth of the life and loved looked like. One who should have been given love and adored.
Yet here he was, an omega who had been abandoned and betrayed by love and hate and all the emotions that he had felt for years on end.
"You would choose death willingly?" Sanji asked, his curiosity coming off as disbelief.
But they were both right.
This was madness.
This wasn’t how anyone could have predicted. The prince’s omega was heartbroken, and there wasn’t anything that could soothe him. Perhaps this was what he needed to do, but Kosta—
Oh, Kosta was dangerous.
He was a walking weapon.
He was a walking bomb that could blow and take everything with him. And yet, even with all of that at the back of his mind, he was still just an omega who wanted to be doted on. It was his instinct that had gotten him so desperate.
Even the suppressants wouldn’t have done the job he was asking of Sanji. This was insanity.
"The immortality spell is bound on me, only he can undo it. The only way to undo it is if he doesn’t want me. Hates me. Wants me dead. I know I am asking for a lot, but from one dead man to another, maybe we can make this work?" Kosta asked desperately.
Sanjiro’s heart broke for the Chief before him.
He knew Konstantin long before Igor had ever gotten to learn his first words. He had been in Kawai long before the king was even old enough to know what was right and wrong.
Sanji was one of the oldest Kawai Lycans and he knew the old books by heart. And yet even with all of that dirty experience, none of that had prepared him for this kind of emptiness.
He had never expected that life would be so fucked up and that the lives that had lived would turn out like this. Granted, he was a traitor who was a dead man walking, Kawai, but Kosta—
He was different.
Igor was loved by the people of Kawai.
He was respected by the realm.
He was admired by so many people, and if he were to die, then so many hearts would be broken. Funny how none of those hearts were unable to do shit for him when he needed comfort and love.
Maybe they would all have to live with the shell that had once been Igor Konstantin. Maybe this right here is one way for the Lycan to achieve to take back his life. But why did it have to involve losses?
Was it that easy to let everything go?
Oh, but Sanji was confused.
He wanted to take advantage of the omega, but he was scared of Igor Kostantin, and he had every right to be. Because taking on this omega would still mean interacting with Igor Konstantin, and frankly, that was a fate worse than death.
But then, like Igor had said, they were both dead men walking, weren’t they?
"Maybe there is another alternative—" Sanji tried desperately. He needed to save the Lycan chief from the horrors of what was coming, but the man had lost everything.
He had lost the love of his life, and life had since stopped having any meaning.
"Consider it a favor, then. You court me, and help me get him to undo the immortality spell, and I will do whatever the hell you want... Anything," Kosta begged.
