Chapter 419: Don’t Give Me Graves, Krushka
[TAMIKO]
"Why!!" Kosta asked angrily as he tangled Tamiko by his shirt, desperate for answers that he knew would never truly make sense either way. Not when Tamiko was involved, but still, he was a desperate man.
He was a desperate Erasthai.
A desperate beloved, and he needed answers.
He needed to work things out, even if it was breaking his steel heart to the core.
"Why what, Kosta?" Tamiko asked lightly, his tone almost mocking the love of his life.
The king paced in the near distance, almost losing his mind from the chaos he was watching. He hated how powerless his son had rendered him, and damn, was he losing it.
Maybe he was drowning in the sins of his past, but surely what sin had he done as a king that would have stressed him out as a father so badly?
"You... you fucking let him get to you! You could have stopped him! You saw him coming and you did nothing? What the fuck, Tamiko?!" Kosta raged, his voice breaking as tears threatened to slip past his defenses.
His eyes never left Tamiko’s, even as he held onto that shirt tightly like that was supposed to make it all better, but what part of better was better when loss and grief were straight Kosta in the same measure?
"Oh, princess... I told you already, didn’t I? I don’t care about death by any other person’s hands. The mere thought of your eyes turning cold toward me is deadlier than any poisoned blade.
"I’d rather die a thousand deaths than live through an eternity without you. That is a fate I would never be able to handle. And if that makes me weak, then yes, Kosta. I am weak for you.
"Just you," Tamiko said resignedly, his breath shaking like this was the hardest thing he had ever had to deal with. And perhaps it was so. Perhaps it was the only way that Tamiko knew how to elaborate on what he was feeling.
Maybe it was his way of telling Erasthai that nothing would ever be worth it if Kosta was not there. Tamiko was willing to choose death if that was the only way to show Kosta just how much he loved him.
And maybe he was unhinged for that, but who could become everything that had happened? Who was to explain the difference between love and obsession when his kind of love had always been obsessive and unhinged?
"Have cold eyes towards you? What a sinister joke. If it were that easy, then I would have done it a long time ago!" Kost breathed raggedly and frustratedly. He had not wished for this, but now he had to deal with it.
He could either plead with Tamiko or join him, but Kosta refused to be the reason Tamiko left. He had brought the prince from Grealor back when he was just a boy with nothing to love for, a boy who had crossed the borders for Kosta.
And Kosta refused to watch that same boy give up his life just because they couldn’t work through their differences in the name of love.
"When will you understand that I can’t live in a world that doesn’t have you too? When you get it through your thick skull that you’re all I have? That even when I had every reason to let you go, even when you left me for ten whole years, I still held on—
"...waited for you to come home, because somehow you were home. You always were my home. Tell me, Tamiko, how can a person live without having a home, Tamiko? You still don’t understand that I would never let you go.
"...never stop loving you, no matter what the realm throws at us? You’re mine, Tamiko. No one, not even the goats of a past we can’t seem to let go, can stop that!" Kosta added desperately.
He needed Tamiko to understand that this was forever for them. That is why we were never leaving each other’s lives. How was he to explain to Tamiko that he had been ready to confront Yilena with his life if that meant he got Tamiko back?
How was he to make this stubborn, loving prince what was meant for them and what wasn’t? The choices reevaluated, but Kosta knew that even in the misty fog of fate, he would always, always choose Tamiko.
That was it for him.
He just needed the crown prince to understand that, too, because otherwise all this would be for nothing.
"If you let me live, I will still kill in your name, though. You can put an end to this now," Tamiko said, admittedly, ignoring the ache in his chest.
He hated that this was what they had gotten to, but he was just being honest with Kosta. He wanted to at least put that out in the cellar if Kosta was to decide to let him live. At least he would have been honest with his Erasthai, right?
Kosta stared desperately at his Erasthai, who was making dumb demands, and he wasn’t sure what he could do with that. So instead, the Lycan chief went on his knees, right before his Erasthai.
He set aside his blade, despite knowing how risky this could be. But then in that moment, nothing mattered anymore to the warriors who had tried to invade Kawai because of him.
Not the royal warriors who were watching the kind of shit that had never been seen before.
Not the Kawai council, who were watching the decision in shock.
And certainly not even the shocked mad king, who was ready to strike down anything that came in this direction. There was no denying, though, that the king had lost a few strands of hair just from the sight before him.
This was the most frustrating thing, and frankly, he finally understood what Sadako had meant when he said that being the king was the easiest task in the realm. And that being a father was the hardest of all the things he would ever do.
Because this was not it. This was pain. Pure unfiltered pain, and he couldn’t even say shit about it because if he did, he could risk losing his stubborn son, who was obviously in love with the Lycan Chief.
Gods, Zaffuto would probably need a long nap after this.
"Tamiko... don’t give me graves, krushka," Kosta began as he pulled Tamiko close, so their foreheads met. He couldn’t handle this anymore, and he had to be honest, even if that was as suffocating as it threatened to be for them both.
This was his only request, and he hoped to the goddess that just this once, Tamiko would listen, if not to the chaos that had silenced around them, then to the beating heart that was desperate for him.
Kosta didn’t want to fight against his Erasthai; it was a losing battle anyway, because his heart would forever be in Tamiko’s hands.
Everything that Kosta was bound to do was unashamedly determined by the look on Tamiko’s face, a clear conviction on how chaotic their love had gotten for them.
"Bu—" Tamiko tried, only for Kosta to cut him off.
"I only ever wanted you, Tamiko. Not the rage and war."
