Chapter 420: Don’t Do That To Me Again, Please
[TAMIKO]
"I only ever wanted you, Tamiko. Not the rage and war. I can fight my wars myself and win with ease. But none of that will ever matter if you’re not here with me. Is it too much for me to ask for your hand to never leave mine?
"Is it so difficult for you to not carve ruin for me and just give me you. That is all I want. You... always, you. You’re all I want, not your corpse, not the prince, just you, my beautiful Erasthai," Kosta said hoarsely, his voice breaking for the hundredth time.
He was being real with Tamiko.
Honest and open there.
It was not something that any other ears should have heard instead of Tamiko, but the battlefield had roped them into such a position that they had enemies and allies alike watching them be one at each counter.
On one hand, it was heartwarming.
On the other hand, it was sickening to those who hadn’t come here for the fluff. Then again, where was the fluff when love itself had somewhat been lost in the process of the endless battles that were being fought here?
Perhaps this was not what all could have been, but love did always come with as many choices, did it?
"You’re the only truth I have known for the longest time, Kosta. Nothing else would matter as I have you by my side. Without you, my life has no meaning. If I am to lose, then I can only ever lose to you... never to lose you, my precious.
"Because if I lose you, then the world will burn with me, but not before I carve it open and make them all bleed," Tamiko swore gently, whispering against Kosta’s mouth, his breath ghosting.
He wasn’t ready to lose Kosta again. He wasn’t ever going to be ready for anything, and Kosta and he were just making sure the Lycan Chief was already aware of that, because otherwise, he wouldn’t stop.
Everyone who was watching had their jaws hit the battlefield from the sheer shock of the devotion before them. They had always heard the tales of dangerous love, but never really got to see what that was, until today.
And in shock, the warriors and the royals watched as Kosta desperately crushed Tamiko into his arms, his hold never yielding. It was as if this was the first time in their trainer years apart that life was making sense and gods were something else.
Everyone watched and feared at the same time, because this was not just any light interaction.
This right here was a warning.
To everyone.
Kosta was never Tamiko’s weakness.
Neither of them was the other’s weakness.
"I l... gods, I love you, Tamiko," Kosta mumbled desperately, and like a prayer.
"Don’t do that to me again, please," Kosta added in a defeated whisper, like he was scared of what would come after his. He had not been trained for this, never this kind of darkness, but it was one he would always embrace.
After all, it was Tamiko.
Maybe he wasn’t asking for too much this time, right?
For a moment, Tamiko didn’t speak. He didn’t say anything, like he was still trying to wrap everything around his head. He had almost died for Kosta. And he hadn’t been terrified at all.
He had laid himself bare like it was all, and now he was in the warm embrace of the only soul that mattered the most to him. But hearing Kosta’s last testament did break something in the Lycan prince.
Something he wasn’t sure even existed before. This was not just a request from Kosta. It was a plea, and gods, Tamiko wanted to say that he could control how shit turned out, but as they realized none of this would ever matter again.
"Kosta..." Tamiko breathed defeatedly as he pulled back from the embrace, only to stare into Kosta’s eyes like this was something he needed to say when they were looking at each other and leaning over each other’s shoulders.
"I only ever wanted to keep you safe, my beautiful, even if that meant I had to give myself up for you," Tamiko said earnestly.
Kosta’s eye twitched, making Tamiko break into a soft, reassuring smile, even though nothing but his words were reassuring to Kosta’s ears.
The Kawai chief didn’t want any more self-sacrificing moments from his Erasthai, because he would go crazy. It wasn’t even that hard to tell at this point.
If Tamiko was going to talk about dying again, Kosta would take him away from the battlefield and lock him up until he got those thoughts out of his mind. Then again, that was funny considering Kosta had been thrown with a busy night, gorgeous light.
Perhaps this time, they could work through their love instead of their blinding devotion.
Maybe it wasn’t going to be the easiest of things, but at the same time, it was certainly bound to be worth something. Something had to give. Right now, there wasn’t much more to that other than the beautiful fact that they loved each other.
"I wasn’t born in a world of sanity, so I can’t promise sanity for you, love. But I can promise to try... I’ll try so hard not to do this to you again. Not like this," Tamiko murmured as they leaned towards each other, their lips nearly touching.
The crowd around them stayed still even then, like they were scared of interrupting the moment, and Tamiko smiled sheepishly before he gently pulled back, making Kosta let out a soft groan.
"I... gods, I need you," Kosta begged, his frustration evident.
His hands that once flailed around were now wrapped around Tamiko, like he was scared the prince would leave again or even talk of the one that his ears did not need at the moment.
Fear worked in strange ways because even the royals were watching what this meant for the couple before them.
This was a different type of insanity, nonetheless.
They were two souls in love.
Two people who could burn down the world for each other, like the world that was theirs to conquer. The reminder that no one needed was here before them, because they could see that these two were forever.
It was not that hard a concept for Erasthais, but there was something dangerous about a Kosta-Tamiko union. And maybe that was also why the Grealors chose to strike at this moment.
But would it ever work in their favour, seeing how their invasion only ever served to remind them of the move that none of them had the balls to break through?
"Always... you’ll always have me, my precious," Tamiko said proudly as his thumb brushed over Kosta’s jaw gently. "Even if that means everything else will die, for us to have our moment."
Tamiko leaned in once more, carefully, and briefly, leaving a peck on Kosta’s cheeks.
And then, like the spell had been broken, the battlefield came back to life again.
However, for the two of them, the newfound devotion was evident, even as they did what they did best: fight and love each other. This time, though, the fight wasn’t between the two of them, much to the horror of the Grealor army.
They really were doomed.
