What's Wrong With Being An Omega Nanny?-Chapter 106: Oh! It’s Nathan!

Chapter 106

Chapter 106: Oh! It’s Nathan!
Elias stood frozen in the small living room as Viktor’s whisper echoed in his ears.
"It’s a territorial war that I don’t want you to get involved in. It’ll happen at the end of the year. It’s... big and dangerous. I might not come back... Alive."
Elias’s stomach dropped immediately as he heard that.
"What? What do you mean by that? Are you going to kill yourself?"
Viktor stepped back, running a hand through his hair.
"I never said I was going to kill myself, sweetheart. Are you worried?"
"Shut up," Elias frowned at him.
"Haha! Every year, the big families fight for territory. This one will happen in a few weeks. It’s not just about guns and deals anymore. It’s everything. Lives. Cities. Territory. My rivals know about you now. That’s why I need you and Lila to be safe. At the estate."
Elias sighed heavily as he tried to calm himself after everything he heard.
"So... you’re going to war and you could die in that very war?"
Viktor gave a short, bitter laugh.
"Yeah. I could."
"Why?" Elias asked, voice small. "Why do you have to go? You could just..."
"Because I’m the head of the family," Viktor said, interrupting him. "My father chose me though I never wanted this title. I wanted to attend a regular school, have a typical job, and live in a house with a dog. But this is what I got. I wasn’t even allowed to have a wife because of my trauma,"
Elias stared at the floor. He thought of Luka and the other brothers he hadn’t met before. He was already so worried about Viktor.
"Do the twins know about this?"
"They’ve known already," Viktor said. "It’s not the first time. When these wars happen, no one is safe. They go after friends, family, and anyone close. They already have photos of you, Elias. From my house. From school. From here."
Elias’s throat went dry as he clasped his sweaty hands together. He swallowed hard and lowered his head.
"I’m sorry," he said quietly. "I didn’t trust you. I thought you were just... controlling. I thought you just wanted to keep me locked up in your house. I didn’t know it was for my safety,"
Viktor’s face softened. "I get it. But please. After your exams... In two weeks. You must come to the estate. Just until it’s over."
Elias nodded slowly. "Okay. After exams."
Viktor smiled, small and tired. "I’m glad it’s perfect timing."
Elias grumbled under his breath. "I was going to look for a job during break..."
Viktor ruffled his hair.
"We’ll find you one later. Promise."
After spending some minutes chatting, he finally left. The door clicked shut. The apartment felt too quiet.
Elias went to bed, but sleep didn’t come easily. He kept thinking about what Viktor told him. There was a high chance Viktor could die, yet he went to war or else, they would attack him wherever he was with his family.
Other cities owned by the Mafia were dangerous to live in, but Viktor Drago was different. He only wants the best for his people and he tried to protect them. They are only scared of him because of the ’Mafia’ title added to his name.
’To think that Dante and Dario are aware of this. What if something happens to their father? Would they be able to... No! I should only think about something positive,’
.
.
The next few days passed in a blur of books and notes.
Elias studied at home. The library was impossible at that period. Every time he tried to read there, people stared at him, whispered, and even took photos of him. Some even asked for selfies which made him a bit uncomfortable. He stayed in the apartment, door locked, curtains half-closed.
Lila helped more than he expected. She learned to make eggs and toast in the morning. At night she cooked instant noodles or heated leftovers. She’d bring him tea and sit on the floor beside his chair.
"You need to eat, brother," she’d say, pushing a plate toward him.
"I’m eating," he’d mumble, eyes on the page.
"You’re skin and bones. And it’s all because of exams. I’m not sure I’d like to go to college,"
"I’m fine, Lila. And you have to go to college!"
She’d huff and go back to her tablet.
He was grateful. Really. With her little help, he was able to concentrate on what he was reading instead of cooking for her.
.
.
Finally, the first day of exams arrived.
Elias walked to campus early, bag heavy with pens and water. Rowan was waiting by the gate, leaning against the wall, hands in his pockets. They agreed to meet since Rowan was at his house yesterday for an overnight reading.
"Morning," Rowan said, falling into step. "Are you ready?"
"As I’ll ever be," Elias said.
They walked together. Students stared at them, wishing to approach Elias but Rowan’s presence kept most of them back.
"What are you? My bodyguard?"
"You don’t like it?" Rowan asked and Elias’s cheeks flushed red.
"I didn’t say so... I..."
Then Elias stopped as he saw him.
Jace
.
He was getting out of a black car, the driver holding the door. He looked tired with dark circles and messy hair.
Their eyes met.
Elias raised a hand.
"Jace!"
Jace’s face went blank. He turned away fast, walking toward the exam hall without a word.
Elias’s hand dropped.
Rowan frowned. "What was that?"
"I don’t know," Elias said quietly. "He’s been avoiding me for days. Maybe he didn’t see me,"
Rowan watched Jace disappear into the crowd. "Something happened between both of you?"
"I don’t think so. Maybe he’s just busy."
"Busy huh?" Rowan didn’t look convinced. "We’ll see."
They went in. They had two papers that day and it was very long.
Rowan finished first, like always. He handed in his paper, stretched, and walked out. He couldn’t add to what he had written. He wasn’t a smart student like the others.
Jace was outside, leaning against a pillar, waiting for his driver.
Rowan walked straight up to him.
"Hey. How’d it go?"
Jace glanced up and looked away.
"It was Fine."
Rowan smirked. "I’m surprised."
Jace raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"Thought you’d be too busy avoiding people to write anything."
Jace went still.
Rowan leaned in. "You’ve been dodging Elias like he’s got the plague. What’s up?"
Jace looked away. "You’re asking me that? I guess he didn’t tell you?"
"Tell me what? Did something happen between you two? Did you hurt him?!"
"My family kicked him and Lila out," Jace said, voice low. "My mother did it and I didn’t stop her. I feel like shit every time I see him. I feel guilty!"
Rowan stared for a second. Then he laughed loudly. He held his stomach and hit his lap as he continued laughing.
Jace glared.
"What’s so funny?"
"That’s why you’re acting like a kicked puppy?" Rowan said, still grinning. "Man, Elias doesn’t care about that anymore. He waved at you. He smiled. He’s doing better without your house."
Jace looked down. "I know. I see it. That’s why I’m staying away. I don’t want to mess things up more."
Rowan crossed his arms. "So you’ve given up?"
Jace’s head snapped up. "What?"
"On Elias. You’ve given up."
"Why do you care?"
Rowan shrugged. "Because if you’re out, I’m in."
Jace’s eyes narrowed. "You think it’s that easy? You know how many alphas are circling him right now?"
"I do," Rowan said calmly. "But in the end, only love wins."
Jace opened his mouth, closed it.
Then he saw Elias walking toward them, yawning, bag slung over one shoulder.
Jace stepped back. "Don’t tell him I said anything."
He turned to leave, then stopped to look back at Rowan.
"I’m not giving up," he said quietly. "Not yet."
Then he walked away fast.
Rowan watched him go, smile fading.
Elias reached him.
"Was that Jace?"
"Yeah," Rowan said. "He said he needs some time. Since he feels bad about what his mom did."
Elias sighed. "I don’t blame him. I was going to leave anyway. It’s fine."
Rowan looked at him softly. "You really are too nice, you know that?"
Elias laughed. "Someone has to be."
Rowan checked his watch. "What’re you doing now?"
"Hmmm. I’m going to sleep. Then study for tomorrow."
"Good luck," Rowan said. "Text me if you need anything."
They parted ways.
Elias walked to the bus stop, waiting for the next bus. The schedule said the next one was in fifty minutes.
He sighed.
’Should I maybe take a cab or order a ride,’
He was pulling out his phone when a sleek silver car pulled up right in front of him.
The window rolled down and Nathan smiled from the driver’s seat.
"Hey, saviour."
Elias froze. He suddenly remembered the text Nathan sent weeks ago. The one he never replied to.
He doesn’t even remember the content of the letter.
Nathan leaned over and opened the passenger door.
"Get in. I’ll give you a ride."
Elias’s mouth went dry.
"Uh..."
Nathan’s smile didn’t waver.
"Come on, Elias. It’s just a ride. I’m not going to bite..."
Elias stared at the open door and whispered under his breath,
"Fuck."
