Chapter 127: Camilla - That Woman! 2
After receiving that text, Viktor immediately ordered Nico to book a flight to Europe to see Camilla. He knew that if he ignored the message, she would come all the way to his house to cause a scene. She would wish to meet the children and maybe bump into Elias. Never. That was the last thing he wished for.
Reading the text, he was sure that she had become a different person. He grinned, hoping it was true. After all, he still had something to threaten her with if she turned out to be the same person as the last time.
.
After Nico had booked the flight that night, the flight time was returned in seconds.
"Twenty-two hours," Nico said. "Are you sure you want to go alone?"
"Yes. Entering the country with my men would raise suspicions from the Mafia there. I’d rather not gather trouble for myself.
"You’re not taking Luca? Or your butler?" Nico questioned.
"I’m not dragging anyone into this," Viktor replied. "This is my mess. Watch over things while I’m gone. Including the safe house."
And it was. A mess from years ago that he should have cleaned up once and for all. Only if his father had agreed that Viktor should eliminate her.
He headed to the airport without saying a word to anyone. He didn’t even tell Elias. He couldn’t tell him because he would have to mention the accident and he doesn’t want to. If he did, there was a high chance that he would lose Elias for good.
He boarded the plane with a heavy chest, but he told himself it would be quick. All he wanted to do was to meet her and he would give her what she wanted... Money. As always and he would make her disappear again.
Then he would return to Elias and the kids before they moved to the safe house.
That was the plan.
A stupid plan, apparently because it got ruined the minute he met her.
.
.
At the restaurant where it went wrong...
Camilla had chosen the restaurant. It looked super expensive because it was. It was quiet and the location was in a private environment. Even the decoration was proof of it. It looked so elegant. He could tell she had picked the best spot so he could spend some money on her.
She was already seated when Viktor arrived. Her hair was perfectly styled, her lips were painted red and her smile was overly confident, as if she had already won something.
"Viktor," she greeted, standing to hug him.
He sat without returning the gesture.
"Say what you want," he said. "I’m flying back tomorrow."
She pouted as she returned to her seat, hiding the embarrassment on her face. "I can’t believe you’re still this cold to me after all these years? I carried your children, you know."
"And received your money," Viktor replied. "Don’t start these unnecessary talks with me and stop all these dramas. What do you want?"
She sighed heavily as she reached into her bag and pulled out a folder.
"Someone found out about... that incident."
Viktor didn’t flinch. He just stared at her like he was in need of more explanation and she continued. She nervously tapped her fingers on the table.
"I’m campaigning now, Viktor. I know you’re not aware since you didn’t even place a single spy on me to all of my moves. You’re clearly not interested in me, but I’m very interested in this case. The election is soon. My opponents want to use the footage against me."
"So they know about it already?" Viktor asked quietly.
"I’m not sure but they are suspecting me," she said. "They threatened me. They are searching for more proof. They said they knew I was the one who..." she swallowed, "...hit the Kane couple. It’ll be over for me if they find out about it."
Viktor didn’t blink. He remembered that day clearly since he covered it up once. Ever since he found out they were Elias’s parents, he hated himself for it. He hated her more.
"Viktor... is the footage gone?" she whispered.
"Yes," he answered. "I did as I already promised and had all of them deleted."
She let out a shaky breath. "You did delete it, right?"
"I just said the same thing." He frowned, already exhausted with the excessive chat.
"Fine. I believe you. But... can you swear..."
He cut her off. "Is that why you called me?"
She nodded and smirked. He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Fine. I’ll double the amount I sent during your last visit. Just stay away from me."
"I see. You’re just going to shut me up with money. Ha! Fine!" She smiled. "I accept."
The waiter finally arrived. They were served water and were asked to choose their main menu. Viktor wasn’t interested in speaking too much or having this unplanned date-like meal with her. He wanted to return to his home and enjoy quality time with his people.
Viktor took one sip from the water and felt his throat burn. He exhaled deeply, already calculating how to get rid of where he was and also safely return home. But his vision was starting to blur, the room shifted and the table seemed to stretch away from him.
He blinked once.
Twice.
"What did you do this time... Ca... milla..." He whispered as his head fell back, heavy and slow.
The last thing he saw was Camilla standing and smiling,.
"I’m sorry, Viktor," she whispered. "I can’t let you walk away again."
.
By the time he woke up, he found himself in a dim room with low light. There was a chair but it looked so weak. And also, he has been struggling to free his hand but they were tied behind him.
He flexed them once and it loosened since it was too easy. She wasn’t that strong enough to tie him up herself. He looked up as he squinted his eyes.
Camilla sat in front of him with crossed legs.
"You drugged me," Viktor said.
"I needed your attention," she replied. "You never give it to me."
"Now that you have it, what do you want now?" he asked.
She stood slowly as she twirled her hair around her finger.
"My rival found something," she said. "It is something about me."
"That seems to be a YOU problem."
"But it will be your problem soon," she insisted. "If it gets out, the world will know. And when that happens..." she smiled, "...I will need a husband. Someone powerful. Someone who can protect me."
Viktor stared blankly. "I know what you’re thinking. That’s never going to happen."
She tsked. "Oh, Viktor... you rejected me for years. Even after I gave birth to your children."
"You were a surrogate," he corrected. "Not my partner or my wife.
She walked behind him, running her manicured finger down his shoulder. "But we could be something real. If you just tried or do you have someone else?"
Viktor remained silent. He was proud to mention his relationship with Elias anywhere and any day but it wasn’t the time. He had no idea what she could do with Elias, now that she’d become a different person.
Viktor pulled his wrists apart sharply... the rope snapped like a weak thread. Camilla gasped and stumbled backwards.
"How—"
"How? This is the easiest rope I’ve ever broken," he said, standing.
She looked disappointed but not afraid.
"So you’re leaving again?" she asked softly.
"Yes."
"You don’t care about my campaign?"
"No."
"You don’t care if they expose me?"
"You killed the Kanes," he said. "I already cleaned up the mess once. Don’t expect a second."
She swallowed, stepping closer.
"What if I promise you something?" she whispered.
"No. I don’t need anything from you." He was already planning to leave but she leaned into him, her voice brushing his ear.
Her perfume was too strong and sharp and her lips were too close.
"I hope the footage leaks," she whispered.
"Because if it does... I’ll have to marry you. Even if you don’t agree to it, your father will do it to save the Drago reputation."
Her red lipstick smeared onto his collar.
Viktor groaned and shoved her away.
"Don’t touch me. Whatever you have planned won’t work."
She smiled. "We made a promise that day."
"You made it," he corrected. "I didn’t."
He straightened his shirt, wiping the lipstick stain with disgust.
"I’m leaving," he said. "If you show up at the estate again, I won’t be polite."
He walked out, found his way down the hallway and walked out through the exit. He checked if his phone and passport were intact in his pocket and they were.
He didn’t know where he was, but he’d find his way back to the airport. He had a flight to catch. He had kids waiting. He had Elias waiting.
He didn’t want that woman anywhere near any of them.
