Chapter 128: Who Is The Backer?
At the Airport...
Viktor made it just in time before the boarding was announced. He felt uncomfortable not being around his men. They would have helped him do all of these annoying things. Just when it was his turn, his phone buzzed again.
He groaned in frustration as he took out his phone to see the message. It was a picture of Camilla. At first, he didn’t care about it but when he checked the background, he saw that she was at the same airport, standing near a small gate.
Under the picture, she wrote a small caption.
What should I do? I just found out you have a lover that’s not me.
Maybe I should come with you and meet him.
Viktor’s heart dropped. The lady behind the counter was trying to get his attention to submit his documents but Viktor ran out immediately.
He almost ran through the terminal, scanning faces, pushing through crowds, checking every gate.
But he found nothing. He checked the restroom. The ladies almost called the security on him for entering the ladies’ room, but he left before they could see his face.
There was still no sign of her.
"Fuck! How dare that... Argh! I should have killed her."
There was an announcement which made him run back before he missed his flight.
Inside the plane, he searched the plane before it took off. There was still a sign of her. She wasn’t even in the same first class with him.
The entire flight home, his nerves were so tight that they felt like they would snap. By the time he landed, he called Nico immediately.
.
"She’s in the country," Nico ed.
Viktor stopped walking. He was heading to the safe house straight from the airport.
"What?"
"Yes, boss. She’s travelling with bodyguards. Looks like she’s gearing up for the election. You might not have recognised her because she was in disguise. If anyone had seen her face, it would have been on the news since she had become a popular person."
"That’s true. Why didn’t I think of that?" He exhaled deeply. The past two days were hell for him. He rubbed his forehead. "Can we reach her?"
"Well, that’s not impossible. I’m sure she’ll send people after you, so we’ll be able to question them."
"I don’t need all of them," Viktor muttered. "Just one is enough."
Nico paused. "Understood."
Then, Viktor returned home and got into a little argument with Elias after he found the lipstick stain. He tried to tell Elias that nothing happened between him and that woman but Elias didn’t believe him.
Or maybe, Elias would have believed him if he had just told the truth but he couldn’t. The next morning, he left and just as Nico said, they attacked the dragon estate, but they had no idea Viktor wasn’t there.
"We caught one," he said quietly. "He won’t talk."
Viktor inhaled deeply, eyes dark.
"Since she wants to ruin everything," he whispered. "I won’t let her anywhere near my kids or Elias."
His jaw tensed as he tapped Nico’s shoulder.
"Take me to him. I’ll torture him myself."
.
.
END OF FLASHBACK
Viktor opened his eyes slowly as he stopped thinking. The man on the pole was sobbing now, blood dripping from his ruined hand. He was no longer standing. He already sat on the cold floor because of the pain and how weak his legs had become.
Viktor stood slowly, walked over, and crouched so they were eye level.
"I’m going to ask one more time," he said quietly. "Where is Camilla Rossi?"
The man shook his head, tears mixing with snot. He wasn’t going to speak. Anyone in his position would have revealed the truth, but he doesn’t want to say a word.
Viktor sighed as he picked up the pincer again, waving it across the man’s face.
"I can do this all night," he said. "I have two little boys waiting for me at home. I’d rather be reading them bedtime stories. So make this easy for both of us."
The man whimpered, still not saying anything.
Viktor waited for some seconds. Still no reaction. Then he reached for another finger.
The man broke as he started nodding frantically.
"Are you ready to talk?" Viktor asked and he nodded his head.
Viktor pulled the sock out of his mouth. The man gasped, coughing hard. He started panting as he parted his lips to talk.
"S-she’s... she’s in the country," he rasped. "She is staying at the old villa outside the capital with heavy security. There are about twenty men. Maybe more. She’s untouchable... she’s being backed by..."
Viktor tinted his head.
"Backed by? Go on..."
"By..." The man repeated himself again and suddenly stopped moving, his head leaning on the pole, as the white in his eyes suddenly turned red.
Nico walked closer to the man and looked at Viktor.
"He’s dead. His brain must have exploded."
"I didn’t even touch him." Viktor frowned as he stood.
"A chip must have been planted in his head. I don’t think she did it. Whoever the backer is... They must have done this. The small bomb would explode if they tried to call his name. No, before they think of his name, it would explode."
"Who the hell is that person?" Viktor frowned, looking away from the body. Nico didn’t answer.
"It doesn’t matter for now. He has told us where to find her. I’ll handle it. You should head back to the safe house. The real war would start in two days."
Viktor nodded as he peeled off the bloody gloves and dropped them on the floor. He took the clean shirt from Nico and changed into it.
"I want you to find her," Viktor said. "Bring her to me. Alive. I want to warn her to stay away from the kids, Elias and also... to know who the hell her backer is. I have a feeling that whoever it is, it’s going to be bad news."
Nico nodded. "Yes, boss."
He looked at the man one last time.
"He should have talked sooner," he said. "At least, he would have to keep the rest of his fingers."
He walked out.
The warehouse door closed behind him.
.
Meanwhile, at the VIP room where Nathan was staying. He had an unexpected guest. It was someone he didn’t even know existed. Jace Voss.
Of course, there was no reason for Jace to have visited Nathan. But, Jace had been dying to know if anything bad had happened to Elias. He couldn’t call him because he still felt guilty.
He would have told Rowan to call Elias but he didn’t like the idea of Rowan and Elias getting close. Not just him. Everyone in the department kept talking about him over and over again.
He disappeared after the last paper and didn’t even show up for the after-exam party. That was until Jace urged his mother to ask about Elias from Dr Patel, and Dr Patel told Mrs Voss about the fight in Drago’s house.
Mrs Voss went to meet Dr Patel in person while Jace sneaked into Nathan’s room. He thought he would see Nathan asleep on the bed, but he was busy with a conference call while playing mini golf.
"... manufacturing the drug is the most important thing. We have investors already. What exactly is delaying the process?"
"Ah... I see. The raw materials..." Nathan turned and saw Jace standing by the door. He ignored him and continued with the call for another ten minutes before it ended.
Nathan groaned in frustration as he tried to touch his shoulder. He wasn’t able to move his hand properly because of where the wound was. He sat on the bed and looked at Jace one more time.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Um... Hello, I’m Jace Voss."
"Voss? What’s that? Oh wait... You’re the family My Elias was with. The ones who kicked him out... Right?" Nathan smirked as he snapped his fingers.
Jace wanted to say no, but his family was nowhere compared to Caldwell’s. He nodded and Nathan laughed.
"Why are you here?" He asked.
Jace stepped closer, adjusting his shirt.
"I heard you got into an accident while you were at the Drago estate..." He started and Nathan glared at him.
"Get to the point. You’re not here because of me, are you?" Nathan frowned.
"I wanted to ask if... Elias was hurt or..." Jace’s mouth immediately slammed close when he felt Nathan’s Pheromones. They were strong. He was also an Alpha but Nathan’s Pheromones were more powerful than his. Nathan slowly stood up as Jace fell to his knees, gasping for air. Nathan got even closer and wrapped his fingers around his neck.
"Silly me... I should have known. My Elias is just too special and attractive. There can’t be just two..."
"Stop... Let me... go..." Jace grunted as he tried to pull Nathan’s hand away but he was just too strong. He had no idea what Nathan was even talking about. Two what?
"You’re also after my Elias, aren’t you? It can’t just be me and that Drago. There must be more of you. I’ll find you and eliminate you until it’s just me left. Elias is mine!"
