Chapter 77: Before The Second Matching Test!
Elias could remember the last time he had seen Lila’s eyes open and the last time he had seen a smile on her face. It was also the day she had collapsed after their parents’ deaths.
The cause of their accident was a car crash. The cops couldn’t investigate the case because Elias was young and maybe... The culprit had paid to make sure it was gotten rid of.
When he returned home from school that evening, after picking up his sister from another school, he got the news that his parents were dead.
At that moment, she collapsed and refused to open her eyes again. The doctor said she fell into a coma. She was also sick. They mentioned a bunch of things that Elias couldn’t understand at that time. All he had to focus on was making money to make sure the only family he had remained alive.
After all, his first family had abandoned him. He couldn’t remember much from his past, but he remembered the moment a man in a black suit drove him to an orphanage home and told him to remain there till someone came for him.
That’s all he could remember.
.
Presently, Elias couldn’t contain his joy as he ran to his sister and wrapped his arms around her.
"You’re going to throw the food away if you rush towards me like that, brother," Lila said.
He pulled back and wiped the tears at the corner of his eyes.
"Are you in pain? Can you move your leg and...?"
"I’m fine, brother. I’m sorry for getting you worried. The doctor told me everything. I’ve been unconscious for three years. Because of me, you had to suffer alone," she fiddled with her finger as she spoke. Elias lifted his hand and patted her head gently.
"I’m fine, Lila. I would do anything for you," he said. She smiled and looked down at her place.
"I have to finish this before the old grumpy man returns,"
"Old grumpy man? Who is that?" Elias asked and Lila just tapped her chin. She doesn’t know who he is but he was the one who brought the porridge for her.
Elias tried to think about the number of old men who were in the Voss house. Mr Voss was number one, but he couldn’t have brought the plate to Lila. Next is the butler.
’Ah! It must be the butler,’
Elias was convinced already.
When she opened her eyes, the first person she saw was the doctor. She was also happy to see Lila awake.
"Since when have you woken up?" Elias asked.
"Since yesterday," she replied.
"You could have told them to call me. I would have returned,"
"The old man said you were at school. I couldn’t disturb you, brother,"
Elias exhaled deeply. He didn’t know what to say till he heard a small knock on the door. Both Elias and Lila lifted their heads and saw Ethan at the door.
"Ah! Old grumpy man," Lila said, pointing at the door.
Elias felt his heart pounding rapidly as he immediately pulled Lila’s hand down. Out of the men in the Voss’s mansion, the old grumpy man turned out to be Ethan.
Elias tried not to laugh but that description sure did fit him. Old grumpy man.
Ethan entered and looked at Lila. Lila looked back at him with a smile on her face. It was like she didn’t care about calling him that in his face.
Ethan had expected that once his sister woke up from her coma, she would be weak and maybe start trying to assimilate everything that had been happening, but no, Lila has always been like this. She always tried to do things on her own and she’s so inquisitive and smart.
"I’m sorry for her behaviour," Elias apologised and Ethan waved his hand.
"It’s fine. It’s not the first time she has called me that anyway," he said, and Elias hoped that the Vosses wouldn’t throw them out of the house because of that.
Ethan stared at the plate and back at Lila.
"You haven’t finished eating,"
"I was chatting with my brother," she said.
Ethan looked between both of them and sighed.
"You seem glad that your brother is back,"
Lila nodded proudly
Ethan, still with his grumpy expression, turned to Elias.
"The doctor said your sister is in good condition. However..." He paused, and Elias was already looking scared when Ethan stopped talking.
"However?" He asked, expecting him to speak quickly.
"She needs to be taken to the hospital for a proper checkup. For now, she should eat and get her strength,"
Elias heaved a breath of relief as he placed a hand on his chest.
"I guess that’s good news. I’ll have her taken to the hospital tomorrow then," he said.
Ethan nodded and looked at Lila who was already eating. He looked gentle with kids or maybe because Lila was a girl.
The Voss family had no female child. So, Ethan must be seeing Lila as his little sister.
"Well then, I’ll take my leave," he said and left.
"Thank you, old man!" Lila yelled again as he left. Elias almost covered her mouth to shut her up but Ethan waved at her without turning around. He left and Elias heaved a breath of relief.
"I guess it’s time to leave this house,"
"Huh? Where are we, brother?" Lila asked.
Elias poked her forehead.
"Isn’t that the first question you’re supposed to ask? Anyway, we’re at a friend’s place. Don’t worry, we’ll return home soon,"
Lila’s face suddenly turned sour as she gripped her sheets.
"Do we have to go back there? I like it here. Mom and dad... They are no longer there and..."
Elias placed a hand on her shoulder and she pulled herself to cry into his shirt. Lila hasn’t been in that house ever since their parents died. Going back there would make her think of them again and she would become sad.
Elias ruffled her hair.
"Fine, we’ll move somewhere else,"
"Really?" She asked, wiping her tears. "But, where? Can’t we stay here?"
Elias didn’t want to be a burden to these people, especially since the matching result was low. He’d rather leave so they won’t force another test partner on him.
"This house is already owned by someone. We cannot intrude on their privacy, can we?" He asked and he shook his head.
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I find a better place", Elias patted her head, and she nodded.
She continued eating and Elias rubbed his chin, thinking about his schedule. First, he has to take his sister to the hospital for a general checkup and also find a house..
’Why does it feel like I’m forgetting something?’
He asked himself and his phone dinged. He took it and saw the message from Dr Patel.
"It’s tomorrow? How could I have forgotten?" He slipped his fingers into his hair as he mumbled just so his sister wouldn’t hear him.
He has to do one. Either go with his sister or take his matching test. He wanted to ask for help from... Old grumpy man or maybe... Jace but he didn’t want that. He couldn’t let his sister bother them.
He responded to Dr Patel’s message.
E:
Can it be rescheduled? I have to take my sister to the hospital to get a general checkup.
Dr Patel responded almost immediately since he had been waiting for Elias’s message.
Dr P:
If it’s that, you could do the checkup at the matching centre. It’ll be free.
Elias saw it and his eyes widened. He liked the sound of ’free’. He smiled and replied with a short okay.
He slipped his phone into his pocket and saw that Lila had finished eating.
"I’ll take the plate away. Get some sleep. I’ll come back to see you after washing up,"
"Okay!" She rested back on the bed and watched Elias leave the room.
.
Elias went to his room with his luggage and tossed everything on the floor. He threw the dirty clothes into the laundry basket before washing up. He walked out, wearing a loose shirt and shorts. He dried his hair with a towel as he suddenly remembered that he hadn’t replied to Nathan’s message. He took his phone and sent a response.
E:
Get well soon. I hope to get my hoodie soon.
Nathan, who was at the matching centre saw the message enter his phone while he was playing a game. He left the game and immediately responded to Elias’s message.
His father’s secretary, who was beside him, ing his schedule for him, was curious to know who that person was that he was able to make their young master abandon his game just to reply to his chat.
’I would have to relay this to the Master,’
Nathan tapped the button and sent a message.
N:
If you text me your address, I would be able to send them to you.
E:
Them? I need just one. Also, there’s no way I’m giving my address to a total stranger.
N:
Oh! My heart! How could you do this to me, Saviour? I already promised to get you a bunch of hoodies, or would you accept a hoodie factory?
E:
Seems like you had hurt your head when you got stabbed. I don’t need it anymore. Goodbye.
Nathan’s eyes widened when he saw goodbye.
"No, no, no! You can’t stop talking to me when the conversation just got better." He yelled, and the secretary tried to peek to see who it was. He saw the name saved as saviour.
"Hey..." Nathan suddenly glared at his father’s secretary with cold eyes.
"Y-yes, young master,"
"I need you to look into someone for me. His name is Elias,"
"Just Elias?" He asked.
"Find him! Find him at all costs. If you don’t, don’t show yourself in front of me again," Nathan threatened him with a cold voice and the secretary bowed before running out of the room.
Nathan touched the screen of his phone and whispered.
"I’ll find you, my saviour. Just wait for me,"
