What's Wrong With Being An Omega Nanny?-Chapter 87: Four Beeps!

Chapter 87

Chapter 87: Four Beeps!
Monday arrived within the blink of an eye. Elias found his way to school. He rode in the same car as Jace, putting his earphones on just so he wouldn’t have any discussion with Jace.
He wanted to sneak out as usual but he got caught. He was sure Jace purposely waited for him to come out just so they would leave together.
Elias stared out the window, humming softly to the song blasting through his ear. Jace kept stealing glances from him, like he wished to start a conversation, but he just couldn’t say anything, especially since he had his earphones on.
He stared at his phone and saw that the group chat was on fire. Everyone kept talking about the scholarship that would be given today to three special students. The school’s main investor was the one who brought this idea, and the chancellor of the school just couldn’t refuse.
???: I heard they were picking from other departments. Not just the nursing department.
???: I hope someone from our department gets picked so we can brag.
???: Team Elias.
??? @??? This is not a competition.
They kept chatting. Most of them were hoping for Elias to get the scholarship. Maybe because he’s one of the Omegas in the class. He wasn’t sure.
"Young master, we’ve gotten to the school," the driver informed him. He immediately snapped out of his thoughts and grabbed his bag.
"Ah... Thank you," he said and before he turned to look at Elias’s seat, it was empty. He had left the car. He jumped out, flung his bag over his shoulder and rushed towards Elias.
"Are you also heading to the hall?" Jace asked. Elias answered without sparing him a glance.
"Yes."
"Let’s head there together. Did you see the group chat, they said they were picking not only from our department,"
"I see..." He answered.
"Elias," Jace called his name, and he paused and finally looked at him.
"I... I’d like to apologise. I shouldn’t have yelled at you yesterday. I’m sorry,"
Elias stared at Jace for almost ten seconds and then smirked.
"It’s fine. It’s not like you made a mistake. I should have told you about Nathan but he made me promise not to tell anyone,"
"I see... I’m sorry," he apologised again.
"Let’s go," Elias walked away and Jace followed him behind. Even if he apologised, he hadn’t given up on him. Not yet. As long as Elias hasn’t been marked by anyone, his chances of getting him were still high.
They got into the hall and it was already full. It was the largest hall in the school with seats filling all three floors.
"Where should we sit? Third floor?" Jace asked.
Elias wanted to agree since he believed he had no chance of getting picked by the school. He had hoped to be picked, but he was sure it was not just possible.
"Let’s stay on the second floor," he said, and Jace followed him like a lost puppy. They sat in the front row and after a few minutes, it started. The chancellor came and gave a bunch of speeches. Some students were already getting bored. The short event was supposed to end in an hour or so, but the chancellor and some professors dragged it on by giving some talks related to the school.
After forty-five minutes, it was finally time. The chancellor stepped forward and started calling out the names of the students who were to receive scholarships. The certificate would be handed to them by the investor who was supporting the scholarship fully.
"From the faculty of management science, in the department of business administration... Phoebe Dawn!"
Everyone started cheering loudly. Mostly students from that faculty and department. Elias clapped his hands as he watched her walk towards the podium crying. She had short bob hair, with round glasses that perched on her nose. She wore a black dress with a sunflower pattern on it.
She received a handshake from the chancellor and the old man continued. He called the next name on his list.
"From the faculty of engineering, in the department of mechanical engineering... Rachel Lee," he called and they cheered again.
Elias remained in his seat. He knew he wasn’t going to win, but he had wished to at least win. He clapped his hands as he watched the tall girl walk to the stage and bowed as she shook the chancellor’s hand.
"Thank you, sir. Thank you, sir," she mouthed as she stood close to Phoebe.
"She’s really tall, isn’t she? As expected of the girls from the engineering department," Jace said to Elias but Elias didn’t pay any mind. He just wished to get over this as quickly as possible and head home.
"And finally... From the faculty of medical science..." The chancellor spoke and Elias’s eyes widened as his heart started to beat faster. That was his faculty. He swallowed hard, wondering whose name would be called. He didn’t know many people from his faculty but he hoped it was his department and then...
"...in the department of nursing..." The chancellor called again.
"Elias Kane," he said. Everyone started clapping their hands and Elias couldn’t move his foot. Everyone was looking around, waiting for him to stand up from whichever floor he was on.
"Elias, hurry!" Jace gently nudged him with his elbow. Elias felt his heart pounding fast. He stood up, and the people behind him started screaming and clapping.
"Congratulations, Elias," Jace said, clapping the loudest.
Elias finally walked down the stairs and headed towards the stage. His heart was still beating rapidly. Everyone from the faculty was clapping for him.
He shook hands with the chancellor.
"Congratulations."
"Thank you, sir," he replied.
"Haha! And now, calling on our investor who would hand over their certificate. The famous protector of our dear city, Viktor Drago," he called. Everyone started clapping their hands as they murmured.
They have never seen Viktor in person. While everyone was excited, Elias’ heart, which had calmed down before, started pounding harder again.
He had remembered when he rejected Viktor when he offered to pay his fees. He wasn’t sure if he could reject him again, especially in front of everyone. He swallowed hard as the claps stopped. He lifted his head and saw Viktor close to the chancellor.
"Look how handsome he is,"
"Would we be able to shake hands with him?"
The ladies who won the scholarship just couldn’t hide their excitement. Elias was the only one who wished to hide inside a hole.
Not just him, Jace also.
"I can’t believe Viktor Drago was the one who called for this event. Did he do it just so he could meet with Elias? How annoying!"
.
Viktor touched the microphone to see if it was working properly.
"Ah..." He tested it and his voice echoed. Everyone started laughing.
"Haha! I’m not much of a speaker. So, I’ll make this short. Congratulations to the students who got selected for the scholarship. If you didn’t get picked, it’s not because you’re unlucky or because you are not smart. I hope that you wouldn’t be disappointed in yourself and continue to work hard. Do not worry. This event will be held every year as long as I’m alive. So, if this year doesn’t work for you, try harder next year. Thank you,"
He said and they all clapped their hands. The chancellor handed the first certificate to him. He took a picture with the first girl and shook her hands.
She looked at him with respect and... Love in her eyes.
"Oh... I’m never washing these hands," she said.
"Haha, please do," Viktor faked a laugh. He hasn’t even locked gaze with Elias yet but he could tell that Elias was avoiding eye contact with him. He purposely made sure the chancellor didn’t introduce him at the beginning of the event, just so Elias wouldn’t run away if his name was mentioned.
The second girl stepped forward and she was almost the same height as Viktor.
"Thank you, Viktor Drago. I hope all your dreams come true," she said, shaking hands with him after the pictures.
Viktor finally looked at Elias and grinned.
"Yeah. Me too. I hope all my dreams come true,"
She alighted from the stage and finally, it was Elias’s turn. He stepped forward and lifted his head as he exchanged eye contact with Viktor.
"Here you go, Mr Drago," the chancellor said, handing him Elias’s certificate. He collected and handed it over to Elias.
"We meet again, Elias," he said.
Elias placed a hand on the other side of the certificate as he looked at the camera. Viktor was still staring at him, making the cameraman wonder what was going on.
"Can you focus... Mr Drago?" Elias asked and Viktor looked forward. They took the pictures and Viktor stretched his hand to shake Elias. Elias wanted to ignore it but with the many eyes on him, he just faked a smile and accepted the handshake.
"Congratulations, Elias," he said with a smile.
"No, I should congratulate you instead. I rejected your offer the first time and you found another way to make me accept it. Fascinating, isn’t it?" He asked.
"Are you pissed off?"
"What does it look like to you?" Elias pulled his hand from Viktor and turned to leave. Viktor watched him go and furrowed his brows when Elias froze by the stairs.
’Huh? Is he going to come back and hug me? Why did he... Hold on... This sweet scent... Is this?’
He rushed towards Elias who was staring at his watch. It was beeping repeatedly. Four beeps.
"This is...." He stuttered. "I’m royally fucked,"
