Chapter 693: Bad Mood and Phone Calls
As Kate was still looking a little zoned out, Xiaoyun added one last comment before slowly wrapping his hands around her shoulder.
"Look, if it wasn’t for you bringing Anna and those Russians to Luoping safely, do you really think any of them would have lived out there?
And imagine what Luoping would be like if there were no arms manufacturing... We would probably be stuck at the gates of Guangzhou."
"I guess you’re right... But Xiaoyun, you don’t think I bring more trouble than the things I have done for everyone?"
"Didn’t I just say you aren’t leeching off anyone? Don’t let imposter syndrome take you over like this."
"I’m not having imposter syndrome. I just feel like I’m more trouble than it’s worth——"
"Kate, listen to me. No one here thinks you’re trouble. You’re already an integral part of our daily life here."
"Really? You really think so?" Kate asked, her face still looking a little uneasy as if she didn’t trust his words.
"Yes, really... Without you, my life wouldn’t be complete. After all we had been through together."
As Xiaoyun forcefully turned her head towards him to stare at Kate right in the eyes, her face started blushing as she tried to look away.
"Kate, promise me this. Let everything that happened in the past be the past. You don’t have to remind yourself about it constantly."
There was no response, almost as if he had just perfectly predicted what was truly bothering her the whole time.
"Kate. Can you promise me that?"
Xiaoyun asked again, not letting her go as her face started to get a little squished together by his hand.
"Fine, fine. I promise I’ll forget whatever you want me to forget... Geez, making someone promise something when they’re down——"
Before Kate could finish talking, her eyes widened in surprise as he kissed her right on the lips, his hand wrapped around her back.
After what felt like forever, Xiaoyun finally let her go as her eyes looked a little hazy, panting for breath a little.
"Whatever you want to do in the future, I’ll always support you, okay?" Xiaoyun quietly whispered into her right ear.
"Now you’re making me sound like I’m unemployed or something. Stop being so close to me, I want some of my own space."
Despite being shoved aside, Xiaoyun didn’t mind it at all, as a light-mooded smile finally replaced the persistent frown on her face.
"Of course, of course... What do you want to do now? You want to play some cards or something?"
"Hell yeah."
Just as Kate was about to head back to the living room to get her stack of cards, Xiaoyun signaled her to sit down as he created an entire deck out of thin air.
"What ya’ll playing?"
Leyan’s voice coming from the living room was soon replaced by even more noise as Anna, Lily, and Tianci all walked into the kitchen.
"We were just about to play cards. You all want to join?"
Seeing her looking much more cheerful than before, they all took a seat as Xiaoyun began shuffling the cards in her hand.
"What shall we play today?"
---
Noon flew by as the evening arrived.
All of them were back in the living room, looking at the TV with plates of sliced apples as the main character of the show asked a question.
"Where did you get that information?"
"Manual."
"Maual who?
"Michael is too goofy," Anna murmured as everyone nodded in agreement, their faces all facepalming at his mistake.
"Yep——"
Just as Xiaoyun was about to say something, his phone suddenly started ringing, causing Nami to pause the show.
"Who is it?"
"It’s Houqin. I’ll be right back..."
Watching him head over to the kitchen as he started talking, all of his wives looked a little concerned as they all knew what was about to happen.
"How much you guys want to bet he’s going out of town for a few days?" Wuli offered.
"Do we even need to bet that? Every time he gets a call from Houqin outside of work, he always ends up needing to leave the town."
"Surely it’s different this time, right?" Shuli quietly murmured, not really wanting Xiaoyun to leave on his break day.
"Hopefully it’s just something small."
As Yuqi finished talking, Xiaoyun finally came back from the kitchen with his phone inside his pocket already.
"What did Houqin call you for?" Yueyue curiously asked.
"Just some work stuff. It can be dealt with on Monday. Nothing to worry about... Nami, you can resume the show again."
"Okay——"
Before Nami could even grab the remote from the coffee table, Xiaoyun’s phone suddenly started ringing again.
"Sorry. I’ll be right back."
Watching him head over to the kitchen on the call again, all of his wives’ faces were now even more concerned.
Everyone fell into silence, as they all wanted to attempt to overhear what the phone conversation was about.
"Yeah... Mhm... Can Yezi not deal with this himself? If he requests it, just give it to him. Those things can always be built one day."
Xiaoyun’s voice was increasingly getting louder and louder. It was almost as if he was fed up with something Houqin was saying over on the other side.
"How many times do I have to say this? Just send those launchers over. No point keeping them in the stockpile when we can use them to avoid losses."
As his tone suddenly softened, everyone in the living room got a little curious as they started moving closer to listen in.
"You can sign it yourself. You don’t need to ask me for permission... I trust you, can you understand the word trust?"
"Yes, sir!"
The moment Xiaoyun started showing signs of ending the call, all of his wives immediately rushed back to the sofa.
"Sorry about that. Got everything sorted out now."
Xiaoyun apologized as he sat down between Lily and Kate, who both looked just as curious as everyone else.
"What were you guys talking about over the phone for her to call you twice? Is it super serious?" Yuqi questioned.
"It’s just some small stuff. You really don’t have to worry about it... Nami, resume the show again."
Seeing Xiaoyun not wanting to elaborate any further, they could only turn their attention back to the TV as the show resumed.
---
As everyone ate Leyan’s dinner at the dining table, all of Xiaoyun’s wives were glancing over him over and over again.
"Why are you all looking at me for? Is there something on my face?" Xiaoyun curiously asked, checking his face for something.
"Nothing."
Despite their eyes looking back down at the food, he could still feel they were constantly having short peeks towards him.
"Seriously. Is there something on me? Why are you all acting so silent?" Xiaoyun asked again as he felt a little uncomfortable.
"We’re just curious what you were calling with Houqin..." Leyan responded, with everyone nodding their head in agreement.
"You all really wanted to know about it that badly?"
Seeing all of them nodding their heads again, Xiaoyun let out a small sigh before giving his answer.
"She called me after Yezi requested the rocket launchers we had gotten from Zhongxiong’s army."
"Rocket launchers? You mean missile truck? The ones mounted to the trucks?" Wuli questioned.
"Yeah, that one... She wanted to get permission from me to give her authorization to transfer it over to Yezi."
"But why did she call you twice?" Anna raised the question in everyone’s mind.
"She just wasn’t sure if she should really transport all of them since we don’t have ways to replenish them other than buying them from Zhongxiong’s army."
"Why is Yezi requesting rockets?" Leyan curiously asked.
"I don’t know. Probably something to do with zombies from Guangxi’s direction. Either way, nothing to worry about for now."
As Xiaoyun started eating again, his wivies finally stopped looking at him as they turned their attention back to the food.
"Speaking of doing something, what do you all want to do tonight?" Nami suddenly asked as she picked up a small piece of pork with her chopstick.
"Ahem ahem, can we not talk about that kind of stuff when we’re having dinner?" Xiaoyun questioned, coughing several times, as he didn’t expect her to be so direct.
"What? I’m talking about like watching the news after dinner. Your dirty mind had rottened your brain."
"Yeah, right."
Xiaoyun rolled his eyes as he didn’t argue any further, turning his full attention to the dinner that Leyan had cooked up.
"How about we continue the roleplay from yesterday?" Yuqi asked, her face barely looked embrassed as she said it out loud.
"Doesn’t sound like a bad idea," Wuli murmured as she began to develop something in her head.
"Lily, you want to——"
"I-I’m good. I-I think I’m just going to sleep early today."
Lily shyly murmured as she quickly filled up her mouth with food to avoid needing to answer any question.
