Chapter 712: DF-11 and Bombs
"You want me to create a missile?"
Anna and Kate both sat in front of Xiaoyun in disbelief, unable to believe the request he had just casually made to them.
"Not that. I just need... something that can match the same level of explosion as a DF-11."
Xiaoyun quickly lowered his standard as he began to realize the technical difficulty might be a lot harder than he had perceived.
"You know it’s not that simple, right? There’s a reason why we’re still using Cold War weapons in your army." Kate pointed out.
"I know, but we need something bigger than a hand-held RPG. It’s just not enough to deal with some stuff."
"How big an explosion are we talking? Don’t just tell me the same as DF-11. I have never seen it explode before." Anna asked.
"Um... Big enough to blow up an entire house. It should be enough to penetrate like a concrete wall."
Hearing Xiaoyun’s abstract answer, Anna rolled her eyes as she looked over to Kate, who was already going through the file cabinets behind her.
"Found it... The DF-11 warhead is 500kg."
"500kg? No wonder that thing looks so big." Anna murmured as she thought back to the time when one of them rolled up to her shop.
"Ahem, so it is possible to create something similar to that? Ideally, within this week or so?"
"A week? If you give me two or three months, I might develop a bomb big enough to match that."
"That’s way too long."
As Xiaoyun shook his head with the estimated timeline, Anna could only shrug her shoulders.
"You’re probably better off asking those three Russians. They’re the ones who came up with the RPGs in the first place." Anna suggested.
"I was planning to go there next. Thanks for the suggestion."
Before Xiaoyun could get up from his chair, Kate suddenly took out a folder and handed it over to him.
"These are a few of the research we brought from the salvage groups. They might help you if you show them those three Russians."
"Thanks. I’ll show it to them... Anna, you okay?"
"I’m fine..."
Seeing her not wanting to elaborate any further, Xiaoyun didn’t question her grim look any further as he headed out the door.
"Kate, you dummy! That was my hard work! My team and I had been working on that for months!"
As Anna immediately lunged out of her seat and grabbed her by the collar, Kate remained relatively calm as she didn’t resist back.
"I know you worked hard on it. But can you not see our husband is in big trouble right now?"
The word made her fall into silence as Anna knew Kate was right. She slowly let her go free as she spoke up in a grumpy mood.
"Great. Now we’re going to fall even further behind... Hope you enjoy burning our money away."
"I’ll take the hit for it."
---
When Xiaoyun arrived at the Three Russians’ factory, they happened to be right at the front entrance as if they were about to head out.
"Hey, Governor! Long time no see!"
"I need you guys to help me with something. This is really urgent." Xiaoyun requested right away, ignoring their attempt at short talks.
"What is it?"
All three of their faces looked concerned as Boris took charge, waiting for Xiaoyun to elaborate further.
"I need a big weapon. Enough to blow through concrete walls and destroy whatever is inside."
"Big weapon? How big?" Boris questioned.
"500kg explosive to be exact." Xiaoyun instantly answered as he thought back to the conversation earlier.
"500kg?"
All three of them looked a little shocked by the number, but they said no right away, which gave him hope.
"Is it possible?" Xiaoyun impatiently asked as all three of them kept arguing back and forth in Russian.
"Governor, we can make a 500kg bomb. But how are you going to deliver it to the intended target?"
Joseph’s question caught Xiaoyun a little off guard, as he didn’t really think about it that far. But his mind quickly came up with an idea.
"We still have some jets before the outbreak. We can put the bomb on it and use it as a bomber." Xiaoyun answered.
The three of them looked to each other for a second, then looked back over to Xiaoyun with a smile.
"We can make the bomb. But you’ll need someone to adjust the trigger mechanism and fit it onto the jet."
"That’s fine. You can talk to Ma Yan and deal with that... How long will it take before the first one can be created?"
"A week," Ivan answered this time.
"Okay. That’s perfect. You can file the cost straight to the logistics department. I just need it as fast as possible."
Seeing the urgency in Xiaoyun’s voice, the three of them didn’t postpone it any further as they turned around and started heading back into the factory.
"Wait, I almost forgot. Kate told me this might help you guys."
As Xiaoyun handed the folder over to Boris, he quickly opened and started reading it right there and then.
"Does this help?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as he couldn’t understand any of the material written in the paper.
"It helps a lot. We can get this done by Thursday if everything goes right." Boris answered as Ivan and Joseph were both still hooked onto the paper.
"Thank you so much. You guys are lifesavers." Xiaoyun murmured as he finally let out a small sigh of relief in his head.
"No problem, sir... Ahem, Governor, can I ask what this is used for?"
"Sorry, I can’t tell you that. It’s a top secret... You guys will know about it in the future if that day comes."
All three of them didn’t press Xiaoyun any further about it as they turned around and left with the paper.
---
Driving back to the logistics office, Xiaoyun was a little surprised to see both of Houqin’s parent were sitting on a nearby bench.
"Evening, Governor!"
"Evening... Have those two been standing there by the tree since I was gone?" Xiaoyun curiously asked the guard by the gate.
"They had just come here five minutes ago."
"I see... Thank you."
As Xiaoyun drove his car straight towards the parking lot, he soon exited before heading inside the logistics office.
After walking through the hallway, he soon arrived at Houqin’s office. Standing at the door, he could hear the worker inside making phone calls.
Xiaoyun decided to wait, standing in the hallway until the voice inside seemed to have ended the phone call.
"Sorry, Commander. I didn’t mean to be disrespectful. The worker at the warehouse called me..."
The worker immediately apologized as soon as Xiaoyun walked in, seemingly to have known he had been waiting for her to finish the call.
"No need to apologize... Is everything in the warehouse going fine?" Xiaoyun asked as he looked a little surprised by his reaction.
"I-It’s going fine. Nothing much had been called other than the regularly scheduled s."
"That’s good... Ahem, I have a little request. Can you stay as the temporary logistics manager until Houqin comes back?"
Xiaoyun’s request made the worker freeze for a second, but she quickly snapped back to reality as she bowed down in gratitude.
"I’ll use this given opportunity to work my hardest, sir!"
"Great. Then I put my full trust in you... Call me if you encounter something that you can’t decide for yourself."
With the workload shifted onto someone else, Xiaoyun’s face was filled with happiness as he exited the office.
"Whew... Thank god I don’t have to stay late for work."
Back inside his car, he began driving towards the gate before noticing both of Houqin’s parent talking to the gate guard in the distance.
"What do you mean you don’t know where our daughter is? She works here, and you had book records of everyone’s entry and exit right there."
As Houqin’s father started arguing with the guards, the gate door remained locked, leaving him no choice but to exit his car.
"What’s the problem?" Xiaoyun curiously asked as he walked over to the small guardhouse where the three of them stood.
"Hey, Governor! You have to help us here. The guard told us he doesn’t know where our daughter went, but she headed to work this morning."
Seeing the guard awkwardly scratching his hair, Xiaoyun quickly understood what the problem was.
"Your daughter isn’t missing. She’s on a government trip right now to Qingyuan. She’ll most likely return by tomorrow morning."
"Really?" Houqin’s mother questioned.
"I can try to call her if you want me to... But she might be out of service since Qingyuan’s reception is pretty poor."
"That will be great." Houqin’s father answered with gratitude.
As Xiaoyun took out his phone and dialed Houqin’s number, it returned blank as no one picked up on the other side.
"Looks like they’re out of service now... You guys can head back home. She’ll be at your home’s door by tomorrow."
With the reassurance, the two of them had no other choice but to turn around and leave.
"Thank you, Governor." The guard bowed in gratitude as he looked a little irritated by the old couple’s questions.
"No problem... Next time, if someone else’s parent comes knocking, just ignore them if it is classified."
"Yes, sir!"
