Chapter 25: Chapter 24: Mervin’s
After coming out of Ryzel’s apartment, they immediately started going to Layton’s house.
When Layton noticed Ryzel yawning again, he said, "You can sleep first; I will wake you up once we arrive."
"Okay," Ryzel replied, unable to fight his tiredness any longer. He quickly fell asleep while seated on the aircraft.
Seeing Ryzel close his eyes after replying, Layton Lewis knew that he was too tired.
He left the aircraft in automatic mode and contacted Mervin.
As soon as the call went through, Layton Lewis noticed Mervin was encircled by a large number of soldiers stationed in the Capital Star.
His military uniform was strewn about, and the surroundings were littered with destroyed mecha parts. He was also targeted by an excessive number of laser flashes emanating from the troops’ firearms.
"Hello Lewis, do you finally have time to contact me?
Have you caught up with your guide?"
Mervin asked, while adjusting his hair, unconcerned by the weapons aimed at him.
"Yes, I caught up," Lewis said.
"Oh, finally!
Fortunately, my efforts have not gone to waste.
My mech’s sacrifice will not be in vain!" Mervin said, acting very thankful.
"What happened?"
Layton Lewis knew how strong Mervin’s combat ability was. Even if they deployed five hundred high-level sentinels, he could stop them just fine.
He also knew that Mervin liked his mecha very much, so if the situation wasn’t dire, his mecha wouldn’t be damaged to the point where he would claim it had been sacrificed.
"That b*stard General Carl joined hands with General Letty, trying to track you down with their sentinels.
I stopped them from going after you; I even explained it was an emergency, but that b*stard was just itching for a fight.
My mech was damaged by the two of them. Worse, they were so concentrated on attacking me that they didn’t even see an assassin had joined the melee.
In the end, I sacrificed my already damaged mech just to block the assassin’s suicidal attack on that unaware b*stard.
Ah! My life expectancy is rapidly diminishing as a result of having friends like you and idiots in my surroundings.
Look, I only saved the core of my mech. You and that idiot Carl should find someone to remake my mech with the best materials in a month."
"I apologize about the mech. Don’t worry, I’ll have Mr. Holt, who created your original mech, remake it.
So what happened to the assassin?"
He knew how much Mervin treasured his mech so sacrificing it to save a colleague he didn’t like very much. He must be full of dissatisfaction, so the assassin who caused the final damage should be dealt with by him if he could, according to his personality.
"General Letty and that idiot General Carl went to deal with the assassin.
I want to interrogate the assassin myself, but because of the illegal entry, they are still not letting me go.
Don’t worry, I’ve applied to have your name added to the special entrance list, which we can apply for each year. That’s why the system already allowed your entry at 11:00 p.m.
The old people in the council can’t say anything to you as long as you land after 11:00 p.m. Did you land after 11:00 p.m.? "
The special entry list that Mervin said allows one person in each army to travel first in the planet’s atmosphere and land after permission from the system is received. The army and the council agreed with it in case of an emergency.
"Yes, I landed after 11:00 p.m. I received the system’s notice." Layton received a notice just before arriving at the matching center, so the notice just arrived on time.
"That’s good. I thought, with how you rushed a while back, you wouldn’t even read messages.
Now, I am the only one with a record of unauthorized entry. I’ve already requested your father to process my documents. Because I assumed you couldn’t be contacted until tomorrow.
Right. What about your guide?" Mervin asked
"He is already sleeping.
Let my father help you with your record and release.
Also, let my father know that I will be using my leave of absence starting tomorrow."
"Lewis, you know I’m going to be punished, maybe for a week. Who are you going to leave the army to?"
"Just leave the temporary command to Lieutenant General Zam. I already sent him a notice about it."
"Ok. At least that guy isn’t an idiot like the others, who only knew how to fight. I can rest assured that when I go back, my work load won’t be tripled."
"I know that’s why I’m leaving the army to him." Layton Lewis agreed to Mervin’s statement.
The other lieutenant generals under his command are more willing to battle. They knew how to manage the army, but they weren’t good in dealing with the council and other politicians who would undoubtedly visit them once they arrived at the Capital Star.
"Lewis, expect me to visit you tomorrow. I also wanted to see your guide. Don’t even try to say you don’t want to because I will still disturb you guys," Mervin said cheekily.
"Visit in the afternoon; don’t even try to visit in the morning," Layton Lewis said before cutting off the call.
He knew that even if he didn’t give Mervin permission to visit, he would still come to disturb him and Ryzel. He would even visit with others like his mother, once he wasn’t given permission, just to annoy him.
The aircraft soon arrived at his residence in the Capital Star.
He looked at Ryzel, who was still asleep, and attempted to wake him up.
"Wake up, Ryzel. We’ve already arrived.
Layton Lewis tried to rouse Ryzel up a couple more times, but he was still deep asleep.
Seeing that he wasn’t waking up, he just carried Ryzel back to his house. He went directly to his room and put Ryzel on his bed.
