Chapter 22: Chapter 22- Third stage
Dante clenched his hands and tried to feel mana. He shook his head in disappointment.
He turned around and said to his friends. "Yeah. We can’t use mana here."
Thomas came to the hallway and looked around. His body shivered for a second and he cursed out. "It is creepy."
Julius nodded. "We can’t leave the dungeon either. Our only choice is to move forward."
"I will lead the way since I can use my eyes. Follow me." Dante said, going forward.
He carefully walked in the hallway. Luckily, there was still light coming from the blue stones.
After walking for five minutes, he stopped, lifting up his arm.
"What’s wrong?" Thomas asked, looking over his shoulder.
"You see that step?" Dante crouched down and threw a small rock.
The rock hit the floor and a spear ran through from the side. After that, the spear retracted into the wall, completely disappearing from the view.
Thomas inhaled a breath and let out a whistle.
Julius frowned and let out a long sigh.
"From now on, follow my footstep. My eyes can pick up traps hiding inside the surroundings." Dante said.
Their pace became slower because of the traps.
Dante frowned as the traps became more deathly. When he saw the black door, there was only one tile he could step on.
He quickly opened the door and jumped into it.
Instantly, the energy shutting off his core vanished and he felt mana in the air. He let out a smile and laid on the floor.
Thomas gasped for air as he felt energy rushing to his body. He pumped his chest and sat down, resting on the wall.
Julius landed on the floor gracefully, his steps didn’t make any unnecessary movement. He looked at the two friends who were laying on the ground and formed a brief smile.
"What are you guys tired of? It is just a stroll in my eyes." Julius said, smiling.
Dante rubbed his eyes and gave a hard look at his friend. "I can’t think straight anymore. It is the first time I have to use my eyes to see the absolute details around me."
Thomas turned around and sighed. "For me, my body can’t process the mana rushing over. It is like having to deal with a bunch of kids."
Dante forcefully opened his eyes and looked at the mana around him. Just as he imagined, there was a hint of will in the mana.
He hurriedly turned to Thomas and said. "Hey, don’t absorb mana too much. I can see something mixing with it."
Thomas lifted up his hand and waved around. He then nodded, saying.
"Yeah. But you don’t need to worry. The mana immediately removed that for me."
Dante was taken back by Thmoas. He once again worked his brain to the fullest, looking into Thomas.
He saw mana swirling inside his friend, some resting inside the core while the others were powering his limbs.
Dante understood how Thomas could unleash that much physical strength with shallow mana manipulation. For him, mana was actively helping his body to reach maximum strength.
Dante let out a sigh inwardly. Thomas’s blessing was mysterious. The manual he brought from the system shop only said, the blessing came from God or higher beings of existence.
They were like an extension of that God.
But Thomas’s blessing was strange. It didn’t fit any of that.
Whatever being that blessed Thomas, Dante was sure that it was a terrifyingly powerful being.
After focusing his eyes more, he saw the mana pushing back the will to the outside.
Dante nodded. "Your blessing is powerful. It is like you are being loved by mana. No. Love is not enough. It is almost like you are their number one priority."
Thomas let out a booming laugh. He took out a dried mat from his body and ate.
They all rested for an hour before going on the journey. Dante packed about 2 weeks worth of food for this dungeon drive.
With the entrance being gone, they were a bit worried about their situation.
Dante looked at the hallway they were walking and noted the changes. The pathway was getting wider. It could now at least fit two buses side by side.
And there were no more traps.
Dante halted his steps and signalled the group to stop. There were two paths in front of them.
"I propose taking left." Thomas said.
"I want to go right." Julius proudly said.
"Huh! Why?" Thomas glanced at Julius.
Julius shrugged off the glance and patted himself. "Because I am always right. I should choose the right path."
"That is a shitty reason." Thomas declared, banging his chest with his gauntlet.
"Then why don’t we ask our sage. We always take his advice." Julius hissed.
They both looked at Dante with puppy’s eyes. Dante took a step back from them, hugging himself.
"Don’t hurt me." He said.
Just as he was about to make a joke, his eyes picked up a trace of something moving. It came from the left side.
Thomas and Julius noticed his change in expression and readied themselves.
Julius dropped his backpack and drew out his longsword.
Thomas, on the other hand, threw away his backpack, powering his gauntlets with mana.
Only Dante didn’t drop his backpack. It was very important to him. He was not as strong as Thomas or as fast as Julius.
His only strength lay in his brain, that was because the others turned off their thinking capability for some reason.
A step echoed inside the hallway. The sound was like metal banging on the ground. There was also a dragging sound following the footsteps.
The first to reveal was a metal helmet. The helmet was tall, its pointy tips almost reaching the ceiling.
Then a black hand grabbed the wall and revealed itself.
The monster Dante saw in his eyes was a knight armored in black metal. He couldn’t look into the armor, some kind of will was preventing his eyes.
’What is wrong with my skill?’ Dante mumbled to himself.
From the moment he entered the dungeon, his eyes didn’t do its job.
The black knight stared at them for a second before charging at Thomas. It swung a longsword similar to Julius but much bigger.
Well, considering the knight’s height, the sword should be similar to Julius.
Thomas guarded his body with his own gauntlets. Even with Thomas’s strength, the knight managed to push him a few steps back.
Julius appeared beside the knight and cleaved his sword at the knight’s hands.
The knight dodged the slash with an incredible speed for its size.
Julius clicked his tongue and continued pursuing his target. The knight parried Julius’s strike and counterattacked.
But Thomas came from the side and punched at the Knight’s head, his fist burning hot.
The knight staggered back and dropped the sword.
Dante noticed the opening and used
Dash
.
He grabbed the knight’s sword and kicked it to the other side of the fight.
Thomas continued breathing down the knight with his gauntlets. Each strike dent the knight’s armor.
Julius walked toward the center, his posture relaxed. He held out his sword and aimed at the knight. He then channeled the space energy from his skill and yelled out.
"Duck."
Thomas felt a shiver in his spine, following his instinct he rolled to the side.
Dante fired out two mana bolts at the knight’s knees, dropping the knight down.
’Great.’ He said to himself.
Julius drew his sword in a horizontal arc, his sword eating away everything it touched.
The knight’s head vanished from the physical plane under Julius’s
Cleaving
edge
