Chapter 23: Chapter 23- Coldness from within
Dante observed the back knight’s armor and frowned. There was nothing inside the armor, no flesh, no core. Nothing.
They were fighting against the living armor.
"Wait. That is not possible. I definitely feel weight from the strikes." Thomas said, rubbing his arms.
"Why are you so surprised? It is magical bullshit." Julius remarked.
"I could use your ignorance sometimes." Dante chuckled. "But I am bitter about having no core."
"We don’t even get the notification." Julius shrugged off. "I bet some kind of monster is controlling this knight."
Dante stood and threw the helmet on the ground. "Then, let’s go. I will choose left since the knight came from that way."
Thomas grinned and gave a naughty look at Julius, saying I win on his face.
Julius let out a defeated sigh and followed the two friends.
Dante looked around the surroundings. The hallway was truly mysterious. After walking for a few minutes, they were greeted by the two choices again.
Due to Julius’s constant glaring, Dante chose to go to the right. Besides, he didn’t think there was any right choice.
He was proven wrong.
They stood in front of the dead end, looking at the wall with a defeated look. Dante turned around and said, "Look like this place is a maze."
"I knew that from the start." Thomas pointed out. "You are the only one who is ignoring all the signs."
"That’s because I don’t think anyone would make a maze in this dungeon." Dante explained.
"You meant those two tests? The second hallway was embarrassingly easy." Julius said bluntly. "It is just walking in a straight path, nothing special."
"For you!"
Dante and Thomas yelled the same words.
"Mah." Julius chuckled.
"The first stage was hard. If we are just one person short or you guys can’t run fast, we are doomed. The second stage was even more difficult." Dante glanced at Julius.
"Do you know how many traps I avoided?" Dante asked.
Julius shook his head.
"Too many. Without my eyes, it will be extremely difficult. Man, I have a high hope for this stage." Dante complained.
Thmoas came and patted at Dante. "Don’t worry. We have that knight stuff at this stage. I am sure it is awesome. Now, go wreck your brains."
"Yeah. Yeah." Dante rolled his eyes.
Dante sat down on the floor and started drawing the map they walked.
He was not that smart enough to remember every detail. But that was him before the tutorial’s shit.
Right now, maybe because of his bloodline, his memories retain a lot of information. It boosted even more after Tier 2 advancement.
Guess, his bloodline was not just a name.
After drawing the map, he sat and pondered.
He got an idea and immediately stood up, running.
Thomas and Julius followed him.
"Idea?" Julius asked.
"No." Dante shook his head. "Just blind stupidity. Sometimes, the brain is not the solution. Let’s try every route. There could be treasure hiding."
Thomas laughed. "Great."
Julius rolled his eyes.
They began testing various paths. After meeting the dead end, Julius would draw down the map again and move.
It repeated for a few times.
"I think the brain is the solution." Julius said.
"You are right. But I don’t have any right now." Dante admitted. He was just hiding the fact that he lacked ideas.
Now, he didn’t even have any strength to hide. He panted on the ground and drank the water. He then poured the water onto his head, cooling his head.
He threw the water bottle to Thomas and said. "Fill this, please."
Thomas grabbed the bottle and gathered his mana and created water.
"Gosh, this is why I hate mazes." Dante grumbled.
"I thought it was supposed to be easy. I saw old people play a lot." Julius said in bewilderment.
"It is easy because you can draw your path on the paper. We have to run and confirm. Also there is no bird view." Dante sighed. "How about we take a rest?"
"Aren’t we taking one right now?" Thomas asked.
"I guess. I thought I was the only one taking the rest." Dante admitted.
"I am all good though." Thomas said, punching the air.
"Just rest, Mr.Moustache. Are you even human?" Julius smiled.
Thomas twirled his mustache and grinned. "I am more than human. I am a pure human."
Dante and Julius looked at each other and let out a laugh. "We are all pure human beings."
"We will rest for a few hours. I think it is around evening outside." Dante said.
"I wonder if it is snowing right now." Julius muttered.
"Could be. Before we left, there were signs of the snow." Thomas said.
They rested for about three hours.
Dante slept the entire time. He only woke up because he heard a battle.
"What happened?" He said, looking around.
He saw Julius cleaning his sword. Julius looked at Dante and nodded. "Nothing, it is just the same knight coming at us."
"Really?" Dante immediately stood up.
"Relax. Thomas is dealing with it." Julius smiled, continuing his cleaning.
"I see." Dante frowned and sat down, trusting his friend. "Do you have any white clothes?"
"Yes. I have." Julius searched in his backpack and threw it to Dante. "Here."
Dante’s eyes went serious and quickly took an advantage in blindspot.
He threw his Hurlbat.
Julius didn’t have time to dodge since the Hurlbat was blocked by the white cloth he threw.
The small axe embedded into his throat, splitting apart, drawing out red blood.
Julius tried to take the axe but Dante’s word stopped him.
"Don’t." His voice was cold and filled with killing intent.
"I have imbued my mana into the axe. With a snap, I could easily make it explode."
Julius smiled. "Why are you doing this?"
Dante didn’t answer. He took out another axe and threw it to Julius’s hand, making it immobile.
He stood up and took out the final axe.
"Who are you?" Dante asked. His eyes scanned Julius intensely.
"I am Julius. Your friend." Julius said, his voice trembling."
Dante shook his head. "No. No."
"Remember when we first meet, you are just alone in the cafeteria. I accidentally poured my milk on your food to get your attention." Julius chuckled, nervously.
"Oh and when we are at Flesher’s party. You said a lot of stuff and also did a lot of stuff. Like declaring your love to Aurelia. You received a lot of beating from the upperclassmen for that but you managed to date her."
Dante didn’t answer.
"After dating for two months, you guys broke up suddenly." Julius didn’t stop. "I asked you but you never answered. Why?"
"Stop."
But the blonde man didn’t stop. "And there is that incident where we first meet Thomas. This time I was drunk and got in a fight with upperclassmen. We are outnumbered. It was in school I think. No. It is in an alleyway near our favorite bar."
"Stop."
"I remember the first time Thomas swung his fist. That man was huge. He ate every punch like a breakfast and shook off the pain. He even lent us his place for me to rest."
"Stop."
"Tell me what happened with Aurelia. She is pretty sad, you know. I heard a lot from her friends. They said she is asking about you everydays."
"Stop."
"That is why I call you a lot during summer break. She said she wanted to see you. I have been wanting to say that. She loved you, man. Aurelia. Remember her smile. Calm down. I am your friend. If I am being honest, I am your only friend right?"
Dante didn’t answer. He just flicked his hand and the axe on Julius’s arm exploded.
