Chapter 38: Chapter 38 - Transformation of the ring
With no answer, Dante shook his head and began to train his mana manipulation skill.
Compression was the best way to fight off the natural mana but during that cost a lot of mana. It was not a good idea to maintain the compression state.
Dante found a lead in his mana theory and began to work on it.
He observed the traces of magic from the rebellion’s group. He jumped down from the wall. The direction he took was the opposite from Julius.
He arrived at the outer layer and walked toward the big tree.
His eyes showed a trace of magic etched on the tree. It dug deep into the trunk.
The magic was similar to the one inside the blue crystal he saw on the ceiling in the dungeon. Created in a way that, it could sustain itself without any external force.
In the blue crystal case, the mana inside the crystal.
Dante touched the magic and realized the fuel of this magic. It was the natural mana.
It was really interesting. How did such a weak mana control create this kind of magic? Dante observed and tried to imitate the magic circle.
Each time he created it collapsed under the assault of the natural mana. He repeated this many times.
With no success in his hands, he decided to give up and tried a new direction.
"If I can’t use mana as the magic spell then I will use another way." Dante said to himself.
He used mana compression and made a long pole created from mana. He swung the pole a couple times and it melted into the air after that.
He sat under the tree and let out a long and suffering sigh. The mana consumption was not worth it.
Dante scratched his head and decided to try mana manipulation on another day. He checked his skill and saw that Dash was the only one at Grade 1.
Dash was a great skill in his arsenal. He gave him a short burst of speed on his legs. He got this skill when he was running around the forest, trying to manipulate mana into his legs.
Dante knew what the next evolution for this skill would be.
After absorbing mana into his core, he stood up and crouched down in a runner position.
He used Dash and felt a wave of mana surging in his legs. He controlled the surge and guided this to his entire body.
As the surge was about to reach his chest, it slipped away from his grasp. He was discouraged by it and tried again.
Each time he failed, he changed a new way to control the surge, activating the skill to his vision.
He could feel his manipulation skill getting better each time. He smiled, that was what he wanted.
He wanted to see the fruit of his effort. He remembered the first time he caught the fish from the river.
The adrenaline was immaculate.
He stopped when he felt his reserve hit low. He stood up and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He didn’t move but staying at the position demanded his physical endurance.
He looked up at the sky and noted that it was near lunch time. He then walked back to the village.
He was not in a rush so he strolled around for a bit. His eyes picked up a few monsters acting near but ignored it since they were too weak.
He entered the inner layer and arrived. His eyes picked up Thomas meditating inside his house.
Dante smiled. "Why did they want to stay at my place? They have their own houses."
He let out a sigh and went to his house.
As he entered the building, he saw Thomas sitting in the living room, closing his eyes.
He breathed in mana and released it.
As soon as Dante stepped foot inside the house, Thomas opened his eyes and channeled mana in his hands.
He then quickly aimed at Dante and said in anger. "Who are you?"
Dante immediately lifted up his hands and said, "Wait. Wait. I am Dante."
"Don’t lie. I know my friend’s mana." Thomas said, his voice was cold.
Dante was confused by Thomas’s behavior and realized immediately. He grabbed his face and removed the mask.
The mask morphed and transformed into the black ring.
Thomas dropped his hands, taken back by Dante. He looked back and forth at the ring and his face.
"What?"
"What do you mean? You’re neatly going to kill me." Dante exclaimed.
"Wear that mask again. I want to check." Thomas said, pointing at the ring in his finger.
Dante followed and wore it again. Thomas’s eyes as he scanned Dante from head to toe.
Dante felt freaked out by his eyes. He covered his body and said.
"What do you notice?"
Thomas rubbed his chin and came closer to Dante. He touched his shoulder, legs and stomach. He smelled him.
"Everything."
"Huh?"
"I mean, everything about you changes. Mana, body. Everything. It is crazy. My mana can’t even recognize you." Thomas said. "You seem like a new person."
Thomas shook his head and added. "No. Not a new person. You completely changed into a different being."
He was like a child looking at a new toy he got. He poked at Dante, trying to see any changes.
After a period of poking and touching, Thmoas was satisfied with it. He smiled.
"I have memorized this mana." He said with a voice brimming with satisfaction.
Then he paused, his eyes widened again.
"What!?" He shouted.
Dante covered his ears and said, "Calm down. What happened?"
"Your...your mana changed again." Thomas said.
Dante took off the mask and smirked. "I see. It seems that the mask can change my mana signature every five minutes."
Thomas nodded, agreeing with him. "That is good. You can move like an assassin."
"I don’t think I want to move like that. But at least, this will give me some options. There is another effect but I don’t know how to check it." Dante said.
"Tell me what is the effect?"
"It just said mental." Dante said.
Thomas rubbed his chin and shook his head. "No clue."
"Yeah. I tried a few things but nothing worked." Dante said. "Anyways, I am hungry. Buy me some food."
"Sure. What do you want?" Thomas asked.
Dante thought for a brief moment. He wanted to eat some good steak but it was lunch so not the good time for that.
"Mixed salad with boiled eggs. I also want orange juice. Can you buy that?"
"Of course, there is an infinite amount of food in the shop." Thmoas said, checking his system.
Dante grumbled. "That is good."
After a while, Thomas took out the plate of salad and a bottle of cold juice. Dante grabbed and went to the table.
He ate quietly thinking about the black ring.
After finishing the lunch, the plate vanished into the air.
"Hey, tell Julius. We will drink tonight. We haven’t relaxed for a while." Dante said.
Thomas’s head straightened and nodded with enthusiasm. "Good. Great. I am thinking that as well."
Dante left his house and went to train again. He practiced his Dash until he got a small glimpse.
He jumped out in the air and yelled.
"Yeah...!"
Of course, he ignored the tree he bumped into.
He skipped on the way to his house with delight.
