Capítulo 1944: Chapter 1944: Member of the Holy Sword Society
The boy visibly improved once his bleeding stopped, yet the mute girl holding him started trembling. Her eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Xu Huo, a mix of fear and excitement in her expression. But since she couldn’t speak, she merely opened her mouth, eventually making no further response.
The boy did not faint. After recovering a bit, he knelt on the ground before Xu Huo, bowing deeply, “Thank you for saving me. I want to become a player. Please teach me, and I will definitely repay your kindness in the future!”
“There are no children among players,” Xu Huo said.
“I’m not a child, I’m already ten years old. In a few years, I’ll grow up. I want to become a player. I don’t want to rot here like everyone else,” the boy raised his head to look at him, eyes flashing with a maturity and resolve beyond his years, “I want to kill all those evil people. They don’t deserve to live in this world!”
After saying this, he lowered his head again and kept bowing, as if he would continue until Xu Huo agreed.
“Whether you can become a player depends on your own talent.” Xu Huo placed a vial of Evolution Potion on the table, “This is an Evolution Potion for ordinary people. After injection, it can strengthen your physique. These potions can at least make you stronger than ordinary people.”
The boy wasn’t disappointed; on the contrary, he was delighted. He unhesitatingly picked up the syringe and injected it into his arm.
This was a milder Evolution Potion, which wouldn’t cause any noticeable sensations immediately, but the boy still trembled, his eyes brimming with tears as he kept muttering about becoming a player.
Xu Huo asked the mute girl to warm up the food left behind for the boy to eat, then went back to his room to sleep.
For the next two or three days, he had hardly anything to do because the entire Western District had halted production due to the brewing storm over the cleanup plan. Even the Supervision Department’s staff became passive and negligent, whether on duty or not, all glued to their devices for updates, fearing the news would abruptly turn true.
And the Divine Fire Oversight Department headquarters seemed to have completely forgotten about these inspectors, disclosing no information, let alone placating them. The team leaders couldn’t even contact players from the Eastern District, not knowing what went wrong.
Xu Huo took advantage of this lull to contact Guan Shu from the Holy Sword Society.
Guan Shu was a Holy Sword Society member who once joined him in a high-risk random instance. From him, Xu Huo learned the Holy Sword Society had essentially split into two; nearly all the core founding members left, effectively replacing the Society’s name. Now, the Holy Sword Society active at Level-E Wormhole Point generally refers to the New Holy Sword Society, while those adhering to the original founding ideals are almost invisible — the Old Holy Sword Society, with Guan Shu and Lady Palace, a Super Evolver spotted in Zone 017, among their ranks.
Having dealt with them several times, he realized that unlike the mixed bag of the New Holy Sword Society, their members mostly come from hardship and hold strong ideals. He had assisted Guan Shu and the others in a random instance, and Lady Palace later gifted him a ticket about Dr. Wu in Zone 017. There was mutual exchange, making them familiar acquaintances.
The good news was that Guan Shu was still alive but unable to come to Zone 035. However, he entrusted other society members to come and retrieve Xu Huo.
Less than half a day after making contact, a player appeared in Xu Huo’s rented apartment.
The person donned a uniform of an Eastern District player, with a very ordinary, non-aggressive face, immediately saying, “I’m code-named Dawn Mist; Guan Shu informed me to come.”
“Does the Holy Sword Society have a deployment in Zone 035?” Xu Huo was somewhat surprised but refrained from asking further due to his status, pointing to the mute girl and the boy inside, “I’d like to trouble the Holy Sword Society to send these two to a safer zone.”
“Not into the Holy Sword Society?” Dawn Mist was somewhat astonished, as he received different notification content.
“Then it must be Guan Shu’s misunderstanding.” Xu Huo said, “They are just ordinary people; I only want them to leave safely. What they do afterward is up to them.”
Dawn Mist confirmed both were ordinary people, “Without using container props, they can only take the non-player train. I can’t get on this train but will arrange someone to receive them once they’re onboard.”
“As long as they disembark safely.” Xu Huo paused and then added, “Since you’re in the Eastern District, has anything major happened there recently?”
Dawn Mist had more updated information, “Due to the Resistance Army exaggerating the Western District cleanup plan, some Outer Zone players lingering in the Eastern District have started taking action, causing lots of trouble for the municipal government in the past few days. They’re currently too occupied to deal with matters in the Western District. However, the cleanup plan isn’t real, so you can relax. Although a cleanup plan does indeed exist, it was proposed before the zoning appeared and has long been dismissed.”
“Isn’t there a D2 Vibration Disruptor in the Eastern District?” Xu Huo asked, “Can it not affect Outer Zone players?”
Dawn Mist hesitated briefly before speaking, “D2 Disruptor can be circumvented using instruments.”
He took out a tiny metal sliver the size of a green bean, “Sticking this in the ear canal can somewhat reduce the disruptor’s effects. To be completely unaffected, a minor operation is needed to implant a special chip into the brain.”
“Have all the People of the Eastern District undergone this procedure?” Xu Huo was slightly moved, yet couldn’t help but feel incredulous.
“People working for the government and Agor Corporation probably have.” Dawn Mist said, “Others tend to prefer using this metal sliver.”
As he spoke, he placed the metal sliver on the table, “Take this.”
Seeing the inspector’s uniform draped on the chair, he continued, “I don’t know how closely related your clearance tasks are with the Eastern District, but if the Supervision Department arranges for inspectors to enter the Eastern District for training, be careful. I couldn’t find concrete details, but in recent years, inspectors sent for training almost never return alive to the Western District, nor do they appear in the Eastern District.”
“Thank you, I’ll be careful.” Xu Huo nodded.
“My time’s almost up; do you have anything to say to them?” Dawn Mist asked.
Xu Huo turned to the mute girl and the boy, “Go; choose how to live your lives from now on.”
They were destitute and unable to express their gratitude in words, instinctively wanting to kneel. Xu Huo stopped them, “Don’t act like this in the future. Live like human beings.”
Dawn Mist had prepared non-player tickets, and after seeing them off, he also vanished from the apartment. Unexpectedly, soon after they left, members of the Resistance Army arrived downstairs.
The person disguised himself as a drunkard and collapsed behind the building, soon climbing along the wall to Xu Huo’s residence.
“Can’t you use the door?” Xu Huo sat in the shadows, only speaking once the person entered.
The person paused briefly, then remained crouched by the window, speaking directly, “You left that note at our guy’s place.”
“How did you find out?” Xu Huo asked, grasping his gun.
